Pretty much what the title says.

Im going to have to go with the Air Force, it has been proven time and time again that you cannot win a war without Air Superiority.

Yes I know you need Air, Land and Sea units, but which one matters the most in modern war?
i voted navy, not because navy has more pilots and planes than the airforce, not because they have their own land special combat units, but rather because w/o them the other branches would have a lot harder time getting anywhere.

I would have to say Navy since the Marines are a department of the Navy. Both have their own air units, the Marines are the ground force of the Navy which gives you the ability to actually hold positions on land. So you could cover the oceans with your ships and subs, the air with jets and helicopters, land with the Marines and still have nukes again with the subs.
This is the thing I always seemed to have to clear up with my fellow sailors. Both the Navy and the Marine Corps are under the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY (the DoN). They both support each other and one came about from the other, but the Navy itself does NOT control the USMC, the DoN does.

Yes, but air superiority is only as good as your information; it is pretty much over if your target as set up at least one SAM site.

Further more, everything in war is ALWAYS in support of the guy on the ground. So excluding special forces, since you can't mass deploy them like ground pounders and get a good result, I would say that the Marine Corps has the best training and thus the best ground units out there.

For us who are not down with the military lingo, what's the difference between Marine Corps and Navy?
The marines are basically the navy's infantry.
So how is that different to the Army, functionally? I still don't get it.
They aren't. The marines just siphon money that could be spent on the other branches.
The marines also say they are better trained, I say they are just better brain-washed.
I hit a marine that was marching in formation in the head with a rock. If that had been an army formation, a halt would have been called, then the whole formation would have attacked the rock-thrower.
The marine formation didn't even stop to mop the blood off his head.

The army uses c-130's to get most places, the air force has their own planes too. The marines have a few c-130s but:

Actually the Marine Corps gets roughly 13 cents on every dollar spent towards the US military. A lot of their gear is US Army hand-me-down (for example the M16A2 service rifle), so they HAVE to be better trained.

The navy is the most important - only branch that has air, land and sea.

At least it's like that in Australia (although it would be nice if the Navy had a special forces regiment like the army has with the SASR)

The Navy is the most versatile of the three. Both the USN and RN have thier own ground units that are used for offensive purposes. Both have their own air units and although Naval Combat itself is almost irrelevant now, the Navy are the only branch capable of transporting massive numbers of troops and support vehicles for any kind of invasion.
The threat from submarines is an important factor in favoyr of the navy as well. A british sub can be in position to attack anywhare in the world at any time with nuclear weapons.

The Marine Corps is like the army except they Are better trained, generally not as well equipped, and are resposible for providing force projection from the sea.
I'm British and even I know the Marines are part of the Navy, they are not their own branch of the military. That would be like me saying the S.A.S are not in the army.

OT: Navy is the obvious choice - they have troops (Marines) and aircraft (aircraft on carriers are Navy not Air Force) so they would be most capable of filling all the gaps.

Worth repeating: Marines are part of the Navy

Air Force.

Boats can't go on land. Men struggle in sea. Planes just go over that, whilst raining fiery death as they do so.

Because I was Army.
And the Marines might get the hand-me-downs, but about 60 cents of every dollar is distributed to either the air force or the navy, so the army is worse off per man (there's lots more of them.)

Without men on the ground all you're doing is raining fiery death down on rubble.

Don't they all rely on each other in some way, as they all fulfill different, but important roles so that each part of the armed forces works the way it should. Therefore I woulda thought no single branch of the armed forces is more important that the other. Although I'm not too sure about the Navy, don't really hear much about them :p

Air force. The skies go over the sea and land, so they're effective at attacking both.

I feel Air Force is pretty much the strongest. Sea is... Um, I don't know, what happens if you're invading a landlocked country? :p
Plus, if the going gets tough, you just send a plane to carpet bomb shit, or even drop an A-bomb.
Or an F-bomb.

Anyway, I'd also pick Air Force, since they're, well. Stronger.
