This is a question that's been mulling around in my head for the past hour:

Which character type do you prefer?
Let me get into specifics; A common type of comedy act is a two man group, there's usually a "Straight Man" to set up the jokes and then the "Wise Guy" the guy delivers the punchline.
This type of two character team appears in many, many different forms of media.

In current times, the straight man is usually the more sane of the two, as well as the more sarcastic and more prone to deadpan humor, as well as the one that's more likely to be abused or injured in some (often times hilarious) way. He usually serves as the comedic foil to his friend/partner/sibling/etc... (An example of this would be Sam, from Sam and Max)

And the Wise guy is usually the more wacky of the two. In current times the wise guy may even be sociopathic and psychotic, and possibly a bit of a jerkass. The wise guy is always the one who's getting the big laughs and is usually seen as the star of the...whatever. (A good example is Max, from Sam and Max, even though in the games, its Sam who the player controls.)

So my question is, which character type do you like better? The sarcastic Straight Man? Or the wacky Wise Guy?

Me, I always prefer the straight man, though in reality I think I'm more of a Wise Guy.

I always leaned towards The Straight Man himself simply because he seemed to be the more accessable between the two. The Everyman figure if you will. Besides the humour of the two comes from just how The Straight Man reacts to the Wise Guy's actions.
This actually reminds me of a script I once wrote where the main character was The Straight Man to EVERYBODY'S Wise Guy. Needless to say it was called "The Straight Man".

I am the world's straight man. Bordering on the unfunny.
I have no particular preference between the two, however. They both do their part.

Looking over what I've written, it seems you need to be well versed in TV tropes to fully understand all of it.
I'm sorry, I try not to drag people in there, it ruins your life.

I would go with the straight man. It's just not in my nature to deliver punchlines. I leave that to my older brother.
