This E3 has seen the big three console-manufacturers either introducing or vastly improving upon their already present motion controls. Microsoft now has Natal, Nintendo is improving accuracy with its Wii Motion Plus, and Sony has wisely abandoned Six-Axis to make their new 'Wand' controller. So, who has the best motion controller of the bunch?

In my honest opinion, Nintendo is my pick. Unlike the other two companies, Nintendo actually has experience with motion controls. Also, they showed actual games being played with the peripheral. Natal, while impressive, seems to fall more upon the gimmicky, gotta catch up to Nintendo side of the spectrum. And the 'Wand'? Don't delude yourselves, guys; it's a Wii Remote clone with a ping-pong ball on top.

So, what is your opinion on the matter?

while I like the motion plus, it still feels like a fix to a long standing problem, experience with the tech or not. Natal felt so new to me that I was sans socks by the end of the demo, :)

Nintendo

they kinda called the motion remote thing

Sony just copied the Wii in my books

Natal is clearly inspired by the Wii... but not a copy though

Well considering the Wiimote is the only one out at the moment, we can't really judge can we?
This poll would make more sense in a year maybe, when the others are out and people have them in their hands.

If the natal video is anything to go by. Then yes, i'd say that. But only time will tell.

No, not a copy of the Wii. But of EyeToy! I kid, of course. I really want to see where M$ goes with this. It could be cool. Jesus, the voice recognition alone could do wonders.

Not a fanboy or anything, but the Sony wand seems more like the natural succesor to the eyetoy than a copy of the wiimote. Natal was by far the most impressive. I don't want to use any of them for an extended period of time though. Motion sensing is gimmicky and I'm glad that on my console It's an added periphal rather than a basis of the whole fucking thing.

Don't forget the Six-Axis. No wait, you might want to. Anyway, I concede your point. I guess I should have phrased it "which one looks the most impressive?"

Yeah, it's probably best if we just pretend the six-axis never happened, for me it's just a reminder of the PS3's first year when Sony couldn't stop shooting themselves in the foot and tripping over their shoe laces.
And to answer the new question, while I'm not huge on the whole motion sensing thing, Natal looks quite precise and well developed, as does Wii motion plus.
I haven't really seen enough of the PS3's wand, but I'm sure it's nifty too.
So eh, my vote goes to Ninty, simply because the other two haven't really revealed any games for theirs, at least I don't think they have.

Natal looked the most impressive to me, but from pure hearsay it seems people are still in doubt as to how accurate the demonstrations really were. Personally I too have to question the likelihood of a peripheral that has facial recognition technology that seems akin to what they use in airport security. As well as motion sensing technology (I don't know what else to call it) that resembles (to me) motion capture technology from CGI games/movies, except without the sensors attached to your body.

I won't claim to be an expert on technology but It'd surprise me to be told that this kind of technology could be combined into what is essentially a toy and still be considered affordable.

Sony seems to have a straight copy of the Wii technology, its more advanced than current Wii tech, but the motion plus demonstrations I've seen seem to match Sony's offerings. That's by no means a bad thing, I do question why they would bother though. The majority of PS3 owners seem to still consider this technology a "gimmick" the poor fools they are, and I doubt you're gonna get a sizeable chunk of the Wii's audience, because the one's who pick it just for the motion control are gonna be looking for affordability and family friendliness.

Being a Wii owner, of course I have high hopes for motion plus, if it matches what the Red Steel 2 trailer shows then I'll be a happy lad.

The reasoning behind it is, "Hey, it's like the Wii, but in HD!" That line could sell a few casuals; not many, but a few.

When did we start making controllers the enemy? Why is there a need to "blur the line" between gaming and the real world?

...didn't we make video games to get away from the real world?

I can't wait til companies start focusing on, oh, I dunno, gameplay. I miss gameplay. We had good times. Oh! And replay value too. Good stuff.

And I know we've all forgotten that Nintendo named a console after a slang term for a body part, but seriously? Natal? As in pertaining to someone's birth?

At least Nintendo spelled it differently instead of just pronouncing it awkwardly.

if natal works exactly like molyneuxes demo that definately would be the best (though i suspect it won't work that well)

otherwise wii motion plus

Sony's wand has the "OH GOD WE NEED TO MAKE MONEY!" feel to it.
Nintendo's Motion Plus is just a fix for something to make the console viable for better things.
And Natal, well, that's like an eyetoy, but better.

Voted for the Wii motion plus as I don't think that you can use the natal on the PC.

One must remember that this is Molyneux we're talking about. He has a bit of a sordid history of over-hyping his products.
