Okay, the title is deliberately misleading. I apologise. This isn't a versus thread and I intend to get the Xbox 360 regardless. Basically, I have a conundrum.

The thing is, I'm an avid Xbox 360 gamer, with a PS2 shared by my family. And over Christmas, while I was home from university, my university residence got broken into. Our landlord has sorted everything out, but my Xbox 360 (along with several other items) was stolen. They also took half of my games (but bizarrely left the other half, presumably they aren't big Assassin's Creed fans). Now, this isn't a rant. The idiots can't actually play it and will have a hard time fencing it, because they neglected to take the scart and power leads whih were still connected to my TV. So they can't connect it to anything. However, since I'm apparently a massive idiot, I don't have insurance (since I'm only living here until the end of June), so I'll have to pay to replace the console.

Now, this is where my problem lies. I'm trying to find a part time job to help me live as a student, and I'll save up to replace my Xbox alongside it. However, I also really want to get Heavy Rain. Unfortunately it's a PS3 exclusive, and there aren't any PS3 exclusive games apart from Heavy Rain that I'm interested in. But on the other hand, I want this one game so much, and there are other benefits, such as being able to finally get FF VII through PSN (try as I might I cannot find a hard copy of that ANYWHERE except Ebay, and there everyone tries ripping you off with obscene prices...). Basically, I don't know whether to get a PS3 as well as an Xbox 360. I'll replace my Xbox regardless, but given that all this is dependant on me getting a job (tough to do in this economic climate), is it worth me getting a PS3 as well?

If you didn't bother to read that then shame on you. Basically, my Xbox was stolen, I'm going to try and replace it, and I want to know if it's worth me saving up for ages and ages to get a PS3 while I'm at it?

EDIT: As far as Blu-ray goes, I'm happy with DVD at the moment but have been contemplating moving into Blu-ray territory instead, and would definitely make use of the Blu-ray features of the PS3 if I did get one.

DOUBLE EDIT: Also, please post if there are any games that are PS3 exclusive that I might like if I did get a PS3. I'm really an FPS kind of guy, though I play a lot of RPGs and JRPGs too. I'm also recently getting into older adventure games as well, though I guess that's more PC gaming...

if you only are interested in heavy rain, and plan on never buying any other ps3 games ever, then no, but, then again, you might get interested in other ps3 games...

Might as well stick with a 360, at least for now anyway (that hurt so much, I'm a PS3 fanboy, through and through).

Get the PS3 later, when there is more than a single game that you want to play on it. Or when you feel like getting blu-rays more frequently than DVD's

Well, that's the thing. There are benefits to me getting a PS3 as well, such as downloading old PS1 games on PSN that I can't find anymore, and Offler knows there are several of those. And yes, I may well end up interested in other PS3 games, or maybe buy games for it instead of the Xbox, due to the better hardware capabilities. But I refuse to turn my back on the Xbox either (especially given I'm pretty psyched for Project Natal), and I don't want to waste time and money saving for a PS3 if there's not much point for me to do so.

Stick with the 360, once thats happily replaced then think if you want the PS3, especially since only one exclusive is it's appeal to you.

in truth, i never played the ps3 so i can't give much opinion in that regard. but i have seen a blu-ray movie, and to tell the truth, it wasn't that much better than normal dvd.

If you're already getting an X-Box, then by all means also save up for a PS3 and Heavy Rain, but when the time comes for you to buy it, take stock of the situation and decide if that money would be better spent on something else, or just invest the money until you really need it.

It's never a bad idea to save up £250, even if you end up not buying what you originally saved up for.. who knows, by the time you've saved up the money you might have had the opportunity to complete Heavy Rain on someone else's PS3, or it might even get released on the PC like Fahrenheit.

Also, if you're going to save up for a PS3, then I recommend buying Premium Bonds with the money. You don't gain any interest, but you don't lose any money either. They'll take a couple of weeks to turn back into cash again, so you won't be tempted to spend the money on a whim, and you get entered into prize draw every month and can potentially win hundreds of thousands of pounds - they're like lottery tickets which you can get refunded any time you like.

you'd be suprised, i sure was, there are better exclusives then you might think for it, so check more into the games (i highly recommend demons souls, uncharted 1 & 2, killzone is okay too)

plus there are many more coming within the year, in which you obviously will have to earn the money for that ps3 over time, so i would say it is worth it, its a nice console that i am definitly glad i bought (my 360 is in for repairs, so i've been tinkering with the ps3 and its games)

I'd recommend saving up for the PS3 as well after you've replaced your console. (The idea of the theft just makes me cringe.) If you're into FPS games, I might suggest the Resistance titles (at least one of which is now on Greatest Hits, so it's got a lowered price tag). As well as any of the other games Insomniac produces (that is, Ratchet and Clank). While they aren't strictly FPS, they're great fun and there's a lot of running around blasting things with outlandish weapons.

I'll recommend Arkham Asylum out of principle, even though it isn't an exclusive. Unless the Joker DLC counts. I'm not sure if there was ever a version of that released for the 360.

I'd recommend getting the 360, if only because the system has a much wider variety of games. Wait a bit until you see more PS3 exclusive games that you like because otherwise you'll just be wasting money

Never get a console for just one game. I did it and I've regretted it.

I got a 360 a year ago and the only game I wanted was Ninja Gaiden 2. In the year I bought five other games, three of which were simply because I could get them at a rather nice discount(mass effect, gears of war and prince of persia for 30 euros, half the price of a new game, combined playtime in five months is about ten hours) one game simply for nostalgia(Banjo Kazooie N&B) and Guitar Hero 3 for the few rare times friends come over to play(barely played it on my own).

Of course, in the same time I found out about Metal Gear Solid 4, Killzone 2, Disgaea 3, Little Big Planet and God of War 3. And to kick me in my balls after all that, Ninja Gaiden 2 got an updated release on the Ps3...

To crawl back in On-Topic territory: Don't bother, there's a chance the game will be released on the 360 in a year or two.

I thought maybe the box had red line like mine did, three times. If that had been the case I'd say go PS3 until microsoft gets a more stable system. Otherwise, I have nothing against either system both have strengths (PS3 literally has all the bells and whistles and quite efficient, Xbox more stable online and better chance of getting more titles). Its really your taste. Mass Effect 2 or God of War 2....good reason to have both system.

Or you can get a WII if you like....

I'd get a ps3 to hell with blue ray. Red rings of death. At the rates the rings come about i'm surprised the 360 haven't come out like an extra value meal.

I wouldn't bother with a console for just one game. If it's really just that ONE game, and none of the PS3's main IP draws interest you, consider renting one for as long as it takes. A lot of stores like Blockbuster will rent you a console.

I'm going to be honest, I don't know what kind of a game Heavy Rain is. If it's an RPG, disregard my advice. If the RPG's any good you won't get enough out of a rental. If it's anything else, renting will be cheaper if you MUST play this game.

just my opinion, but i'm kinda the opposite of you, the only xbox 360 game i'm interested in is mass effect.
i also want heavy rain but if u get ps3 u should try uncharted 2. i wasn't interested in it until my friend told me to play it
best game i ever played.
i would get the ps3 anyways

I'm in a similar situation. I'm probably going to wait for either a bundle or a price drop on both items.

There are a number of exclusives that make it worth it now. Not to mention the price drop. Take it from someone who ones both, it's worth the extra games you get to play with the PS3.
