Poll: Which Deus Ex: Human Revolution Ending did you choose? *SPOILERS*

What is this the 4th something Human Revolution ending thread?

I stated in the last ones that Human Revolution's endings felt rushed, infact the entire story felt rushed toward the end. Just an attempt at giving the player choice without really working all that hard at making them make sense.

I mean there still was the decision not to make a decision at all really.

Each choice had their merits but in the end I have to say Sarif's ending had the most appeal, also LordRoyal if you didn't make any decision that would mean the signal would continue to send and even more deaths would result, while you what? sit on your hands? go home to a bunch of insane augs? let 1 of the other leaders send their signal?

I chose Darrow's message because I simply wanted to give society the truth of what happened. I will let them do with it what they will.

Was it just me, or did the self destruct narration (and the fact that it was the only one that ended with something more than stock footage) seem like it was trying to be the True Ending here?

That being said, I chose Sarif's first, then Hugh's. Sarif's supported my views on augmentations (especially when they'd gotten to a point that there was almost no risk). Darrow's I chose because it let me tell the world about the Illuminati and I was unconvinced that augmentations would disappear just because of it.

Anyways, I'm still a bit disappointed that all the endings gave us was the protagonist's narration on why he chose what he did and how he thought things would turn out accompanied by stock footage rather than seeing any results (we didn't even get to see the videos he sent).

So I was on the final hallway when I heard David's voice asking for help. David was actually one of my favorite characters, so I went back to look for him. After an hour of searching and killing every single enemy in the level I gave up and went on the lift. Then a message popped up saying "Talk to David: Failed" Fuck you Deus Ex, it's your fault for not telling me where he was.

So I picked Bill Taggart, I like to compare government and anarchy with The Escapist and Youtube. Some things just need to be regulated.

This isn't a new type of ethical question. Society had this debate at the beginning of the nuclear age and again at the start of the age of genetic manipulation (that one is still being debated, actually). Personally, I don't know what the best choice is, but I know I wouldn't trust myself or any one person to make it for all of humanity. I destroyed the facility. To me, it was the only real choice. Good topic though, and a really great game. Wish they made more like this.

100% agreed with this. I chose the self-destruct because I don't see any individual has the right to make that kind of decision. Let people choose for themselves what they want to make of their lives and what they do with it. I just wish there was a way to destroy the facility without Jensen dying.

It took me a long time to decide. I reached that area last night, thought about it for a long time, and decided I had to sleep on it to make my decision.

After lots of contemplation, frustration, and thinking "I CAN'T DO THIS!" I finally went with Hugh Darrow's message. I couldn't lie to the people, and I couldn't withhold information either. So, I decided to give them the whole truth and nothing but the truth, and let the people decide what they make of it.

I was on the fence between that and the self-destruct ending, because in my mind, they both sort of result in letting the people decide what they want to do, rather than being lied to and influenced by some big name corporations and individuals. But, I couldn't kill a ton of innocent people for the sake of withholding information, either.

All four endings were amazing, though. They all left me going "O_O :O omg". God damn I loved this game. The fact that making this moral choice was so difficult, and left me thinking about our society and our humanity, despite it all not being "real"... it's a sign of a great video game.

I sat in front of those buttons for a few minutes weighing the possible outcomes of each choice
It came down to this, who did I think deserved it?
which character has shown me time and time again that I meant something to them
My answer was David Sarif
while some may say that he is a liar and conspirator, I say, David was such a nice guy
he hardly raised his voice, he left many choices up to me, and never forced me to kill anyone.
he was sincere, cared for his employees, and never double crossed anyone

Darrow was a psycho, Taggart was a douche, and I frankly didn't feel like dying anytime today.

I can't decide between the Sarif ending or the Self-Destruct ending. On one hand, augmentation and technology become super-advanced, and along with Adam's DNA, nobody needs Neuropozyne shots anymore, so everybody who gets an augmentation gets only that, no addiction, and the body doesn't reject the technology. It sort of also allows humanity to ascend into the image it wanted to create for itself, a race with the power and willingness to advance technology, no matter the cost.

Then, there is the Self-Destruct ending, which essentially means that the secrets are not revealed to the public, meaning humanity gets to choose its own future for itself. Whether this is a good or a bad thing, nobody knows, the only pro out of this one seems to be the ability for humanity to choose (in my opinion anyways)

Firstly I couldn't decide who was "in the right" (none of them were but couldn't lean more in any direction).

Secondly people throughout the game had annoyed me and were in that place with me.

I went for harsh truth, I wasn't even offered Sarif's, but Lawful Neutrality seemed the best approach to this. The weight of the other choices are far too big to trust even yourself with deciding, but you absolve yourself by simply revealing the truth and allowing people to decide for themselves.

The Darrow choice is neutral-aug. Sarif's is hypocritical, lie to people in order to get them to express their liberty? lol, no chance is that going to work. Self Destruct Ending is anti-aug, at least by the principles it stands. You're supposed to decide that everyone else is too stupid to understand and it's somehow your responsibility to control what they hear. The neuropozyne lie also murders the concept of augging, the mind-control used to make them believe the lie and the lie in itself just cause a contradiction in understanding.

Shame none of the choices have any real impact on anything :/

Well, it's a prequel, they have to tie it into the first game somehow. I think it's almost certain that the self-destruct ending is canon though, ties up all the loose ends.

Unless you mean the particular choices you make during the game have an effect on the epilogue itself?

OT: I choose the Sarif ending personally, I didn't particularly agree with Darrow's outlook and there was no way I was going to trust Taggart and the Illuminati for that matter. The self destruct one was the other option I was weighing, but I didn't go through the whole final level not killing anyone just to kill them all anyway.

Darrow was convinced that his reasoning was strong enough to sway people, I wasn't swayed from pro-aug (Mostly from some libertarian understandings), but if it was going to sway people, then that's still the most honest course of action, I won't lie to push my agenda and understanding primarily since it contradicts the principles in themselves, and secondarily because lying to force people to think like you just feels wrong.

Yeah that's true, but I did not like the outcome of Darrow's ending more than anything else. While I felt Sarif's ending was not optimal, it furthered progress while Darrow's hindered it. I do admit that lying however, was a very bad thing. I would have gone with Taggart's perhaps, as it seemed like a good balance between the two, if it was not for the fact that Taggart and the Illuminati were not to be trusted.

Again, I probably would have just sunk the Panchea and let humanity choose for itself, but damn it, I ran through the whole facility, avoiding a ton of annoying enemies instead of shooting them. I didn't want all that annoyance to be for nothing. Besides, if that ending is canon, then you can assume by the events of the first game, humanity didn't choose the best path.

I chose Taggerts option. My reasoning was 1) we can't eliminate augmentation entirely because it can be used to get people their livelyhoods back i.e. accidents, amputation.

2) I don't believe that the corporation should be unrestricted, I basically can't trust them to do the right thing. It also keeps people, or at least tries to, from getting augmentation for the sake of power.

First off, i hated that it ended this way, makes all my choices up to that point seem to mean fuckall, I feel it made the entire story terrible and the lack of development of the other characters was piss poor. That being said, I personally chose the sarif way... for science

There is only one ''good' ending, and that's David Sarif's ending, IMO. Human advancement through technology, painful as it might be sometimes, to keep evolving and reach transcendence.

I fucked up more than a little bit and forgot to go talk to David before entering the seafloor chamber. So I only had a choice of three endings and of those, I thought Harrow's was the best one. I think the destruction of Panchaea is supposed to be canonical, though.

Finished the game late last night, and I must say, I haven't thought this hard about a choice in a videogame for a long time.
I ended up going with the self-destruct. As much as I could get behind Taggart's idea of regulation, I felt that nobody had the right to take away the world's right to choose its own path, and so I opted out of taking a side. Kinda sad, though.

I chose Taggarts ending. I thought this choice would be the best for mankind, by regulating augmentations, thereby making everyone more equal again, and as Adam says in the end
"Society needs laws and regulations to protect it"
Only downside is that the Illuminati could easily abuse this power, but that would go against their will, they are trying to protect mankind and lead them into a brighter future
