Huge spoilers here so if you haven't seen all the movies or read all of the books I suggest you gtfo as quickly as possible.

Which character death in the Harry Potter series of books or films made you the most sad or angry? For me it was probably Sirius Black's death in The Order of The Pheonix. It was the first major death of a well loved character and the line Sirius says just before he is murdered by Bellatrix Lestrange, "Nice one, James!" is really sad as it shows his friendship with James and his affection for Harry. It seemed as though Sirius could have been the father Harry longed for had he not been killed before Harry's eyes.

After this I was quite upset by Snape's death after the flashback showed that he was really a good dude all along.

So which death shook you up the most?

TL;DR: Sirius Black

I agree, Sirius. It was so cruel, he was the closest thing Harry had to family and his only chance of escaping the Dursleys. His death shocked me the most and I was actually quite upset.

Snape. He was my favorite character from the beginning.

Everyone hated him they never trusted him. He was saving everyone's lives and he just got screwed over in the end. Everyone hated him until the very end.

Oh that and James Potter was a little prick messing with him all the time just because he was Lilly's friend. Then Lilly ended up dying and Snape was crying and then he died and then I was...I was...SOBBING IN MY ROOM while my dad laughed at me because he had read the book before I did.....

HEDWIG!

And Lupin and Tonks.

Sirius was very meh for me. One part I never understood it (killed by a motherhumping curtain!), another is that I didn't like Sirius too much to begin with.

The films didn't do half of those deaths any justice compared to the books.
Having read the books so long ago and seeing the film recently I voted Snape. I felt he was often sidelined in earlier films but he got all the attention he deserved in the end and in my opinion was the most tragic of the deaths. In films at least.

The way the just shoved Fred, Remus and Tonks' corpses at the audience I would be surprised if anyone gave two shits.

Snape.

I started the fifth and sixth books fully expecting the deaths of Sirius and Dumbledore, so they weren't so much a shock to me as sad simply for Harry's sake. Same for Lupin in book 7. Fred's death was a bit more of a shock to me, but Snape's takes the cake simply because of how and why he died. Though it would've helped if the sixth movie hadn't made it look so bloody obvious he was a good guy...

Yes the only complaint have about the final film is that these character's deaths were pretty much glossed over despite them being well loved characters. I', praying there is a director's cut in the works that will give thes character's a better send off, at least show their deaths.

MASSIVE SPOILER! if you havent seen the finale, dont read this (primarily because i don't know how to put this in spoilers :( )

Snape... it the start i was pretty much 'you reap what you sow *****...

Then Harry delves into his mind... MY. GOD... at that point it weighed down on me like a lead blanket, Snape was plain incredible, and it made me so upset that he had to play out this persona of a Bad guy and never let harry know just how much he and his mother meant to him.

That poor guy :(

Albus dumbledore for the film side of things, his face as he fell off the tower was just the most saddening thing to me.

In the books I would say Dobby's death was pretty memorable to me, he was such an amazing character. (which reminds me of WHY WASN'T HE IN MORE THAN LIKE 2 FILMS!).

Fred Weasley for me, its very cruel considering he is one half of a pair, and George would likely find it harder than most who lost someone since it would be like losing half your body to him.
Plus killing half of the main source of comic relief is kinda horrible to.

Strangely enough, probably Fred Weasley. I just felt that to be a completely cruel twist to add. Taking away a twin... why? At least Tonks and Remus got to go together (though they did leave an orphan which is also pretty cruel). I felt J.K. Rowling just got all out mean by the end of the last book.

Probably reading to much George R.R. Martin...

Pretty much all of them affected me equally for different reasons.

Dumbledore: Because of sheer shock value and when you find out afterwards that he went through all that pain and eventually died for nothing.

Sirius: Because he was the closest thing Harry had ever had to a father and a brother, then he get's taken away from him just as he's starting to feel hope.

Lupin/Tonks: Because those two characters both symbolised hope for the future and love triumphing even in the darkest of times. So when they die it really does seem like all hope is lost for a while (they should have made a much bigger deal of it in the movie, but I guess there just wasn't time.)

Fred: (again, wasn't so bad in the movie) In the book because it's so sudden and out of nowhere. Also because Fred and George always seemed immovable even in a series where main characters were dropping like flies towards the end. It's hard to explain, but while mortality was always an issue with a lot of other characters, I always thought "Fred and George can't die, they're Fred and George."

Snape: because his death was so brutal, and when you find out about all the sacrifices he had made and all the things he had put himself through for Harry's sake even though he'd basically already lost his reason for living. Also, him being murdered by Voldemort simply to make Voldemort more powerful after all the loyalty Snape had shown (albeit false, but he didn't know that) really hammers home lack of any feeling towards anyone but himself.

Dobby: Because it was fucking Dobby! (this is also the only example imo where the movie did it better than the book)

Sanpe, honestly I was hopeing Harry would stay dead, and Snape was right about harry's dad being a jerk, he was not a great man like harry said. Also Harry could not possibly jump to more conclusions, honestly it go annoying.

Truthfully, it was kinda sad seeing Sirius go.

Now to address the deaths in the 7th book. I don't think they count since there was no weight or emotion to them it just became a waiting game until someone else died, it just got very silly way too quickly.

Sirius! He was my favorite character. I almost stopped reading the book because I was so upset that he died :(
