I'd have to say Xbox 360 because I don't have much experience of the PS3. But I don't get how people seem to bad mouth the xbox live community as a bunch of swearing 13 year olds, I've played multiplayer loads of times and the only time I've come across someone of that description, it was more in a message after the game (still have the message) although it may be because I am still relatively new the the 360 compared to some (I only got one around the start of the year sometime in February I think) or maybe it's because I haven't played call of duty yet.

Well, I used some online services and yet I don't enjoy online gaming other than Xbox live (and my private minecraft server) But The best thing about Xbox live is that they gave us lots of stuff other than gaming, which is a really reason to like them and paying money for such a nice service is reasonable.

Its $49.99 ($4 a month) for PSN plus for 1 year, or $17.99 ($6 a month) for 3 months. You get access to free games (as long as you stay a active subscriber), 'huge' discounts on select games, dlc and other content available on the PSN, early access to demos and betas, full game trials (1 hour), and online storage for saves.

That being said, I'd only really make use of the free stuff, and the discounts on games/DLC. Though I suppose the early access stuff would be nice if they're doing a game you care for.
Then what was that 15 dollars a month you were talking about? I also saw somebody else say 15 a month as well. Because the only thing I have encountered online that is 15 bucks a month are MMOs.

Live has never been 15 dollars a month.
I assume that most people assume that most subscription based online services are $15 a month since thats how WoW is.

Regardless, I still wouldn't pay just to play games online. I already pay for my internet, why do I have to pay extra for a service I will only use maybe 2 days out of the month.

Quite frankly... "you get what you pay for" gets tossed around a lot. and in fact, it's true.

if Sony charged for their online they might be able to make it better. or actually invest in some proper security. Sony's apology at E3 was rehearsed and completely bullshit. two weeks to tell us, their consumers, that we might get our money stolen? and then a smattering of games that released quite some time ago, ones that already have sequels? SOMEthing here sounds fishy to me. i wont be trusting Sony anytime soon.

Nintendo seriously dropped the ball with their online. plain and simple, it sucks.

Microsoft's online has never really failed me thus far. their online can be a bit expensive when you dont buy it yearly, and even then it's 50 dollars. and that's a commitment!

im no fan boy. in fact, i enjoy some aspects from all systems, even the pc. and i call it like i see it. no one gets special treatment.

My sentiment exactly. In fact one of the things keeping me from going fully PS3 is the fact that I can barely keep my connection to the PSN with out it signing me out every thirty minutes if I'm not directly in an online match. I also think that Xbox live is way easier to navigate and is simple in design by comparison. On a slightly unrelated note, one of the weirdest insults to a console I've heard was when I was talking to someone at a Gamestop, I was talking about how easy it was to get around Xbox Live, he agreed but then said it was "Too Easy" to navigate. I stopped the conversation there and walked away.

When I say "better community", I mean in my experience, I haven't played with that many jerks to be honest.

Just on an unrelated note on the community thing, met some guy online and he was a really nice guy, good player, no trash talking from him he even responded with logical answers. my friend met this guy on PS3 and he was an absolute jerk, just sayin'.

PC

But out of the consoles PS3 is better in my experience.

Offline singleplayer beats all of that though.

I haven't played as much online on PS3 as I have on 360, but I've found that I much prefer Xbox live for online play. There's a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, I prefer Xbox exclusives for online play anyway (Gears and Halo), and the fact that I can voice chat without having to be in the same game as a friend. Also on less online related things, I just know far more people playing xbox than I do PS3, and the fact that the wireless adaptor is integrated on the PS3 means that my xbox is running a rather steady n connection whereas the PS3 is trailing with b/g, meaning it will get pissy when I want it to connect from another room.

And seriously PC gamers. If we can ignore the fact that this was about XBL vs PSN as clearly stated in the title, I'm still finding XBL to be more supportive than steam anyway.

I myself purchased one of those newfangled automobiles. By blight almighty, it runs on combustion!

Horses are for peasants.

OT: PC, duh. I'm not tied down to one service and can choose whatever the fuck I want, including servers.

But can we? Xbox360 and PS3, and as far as I'm concerned, are both tied down to their respective console manufacturers' services. Why the other option, then?

It's common sense that the 'something else' opens up other services to be brought into the discussion as well.

I guess I can't argue with that. Actually won't is probably the better word.

XBLA is pretty good I'm quite used to the layout other then having a hard time finding things sometimes its pretty good. PSN is also good I feel like XBLA should take the pointer of setting up the shop the way they did because its a bit easier to find things.

I don't know what games you play but in pretty much everything I've played the Xbox community sucks massive, racist, homophobic balls.

I would say PC but more than enough people have already, so I'm gonna say PS3 is slightly better because it's almost exactly the same as Xbox but free.

Bit of a pointless question really. I mean there are benefits to both systems but ultiamtely the online service is only as good as the friends you make on it. So even though the PS3 online service is quite good to me, it doesn't have anthing on Steam which dozens of my friends are on and we play something pretty much every day.

PSN is better than Live because Live is a scam to get you to pay for stuff you already paid for (online multiplayer and Netflix) and stuff that is free (last.fm and Facebook). And Sony actually runs dedicated servers while Microsoft runs NO DEDICATED SERVERS. The thing that actually costs Sony and Microsoft money to run are the stores; storing all the games, demos, DLC, game updates, etc while having the proper amount of bandwidth so that millions of users can download it all is very costly. Microsoft doesn't charge for store access because they want you to buy stuff.

See that's always put me off Playstation Plus. The whole "Here have free games... also long as you keep paying for your subscription" there not free then are they dickhead (Not aimed at you, aimed at who ever's idea PSN+ was). That niggling idea that you'd pay £6 a month, collect some games then a couple months down the line, not have any money for the subscription... Then they take all those games away from you. Seems more like a rental service than free... "Free as long as you pay us". My head just went "No thanks, I'll just stick to regular free PSN.

As for which I think is better...mmm tricky one here. See the problem is, I don't really play much online on the PSN. Sorry scratch that, I've never played online with it. My primary console is the 360. Not out of some fanboy loyalty, mostly out of the fact that I only know two people that own a PS3 and one of those people is me. So if a game comes out for online, I just end up buying it for the box so I can play against my mates.

Adding into that, I don't buy many shooters. I'm not that big a fan of them, or driving games... thats pretty most online games ruled out already. However my brother buys them and I play them when I lend them off of him. He only owns an Xbox so he only buys Xbox games.

I use my PS3 for mainly exclusives and well theres few that have a decent online base. Cept maybe the resistance series which is an FPS with the looks of things and thus not a game I'm going to buy. The type of game I'l leave my brother to buy then play when I lend it off of him. Though as said above, he doesn't own one so I'll probably not play it.

Okay that explaining out of the way. There's my reasons why I don't play PS3 online and I do for the box. So I'm going to have to take that one area out because I can't fairly judge it.

What I can do is judge the stores. PSNS or XBLMP. Which again is a tricky one however I'm going with the box on this one. Though its a tough one mainly because PSN as the Playstation one market and some good ol'nostalgia for me. This might have actually went to the PSN for that alone however I'm European and sadly the EU PSX marketplace is lacking to say the least. I created an American account at one point to take a look at that marketplace and well... Wow. If ours was like that, would have got my vote.

Okay my reasoning for picking the Xbox over the PS for this one. They're petty reasons but this is it. Three reasons actually, I don't like the interface for the PSN store... I think it looks ugly and shallow. The second is that, with the PSN you can't always get a trail version of the game. With XBLA for every game that's put on there, there's a trail version so you can have a go first. The PSN has a trail for some games that come to the marketplace but not all.
The third is that you can't always preview a game on the PSN which you can for just about every game on the xbox.

To further eleberate on the last one. With the PSN you can be looking through some games, look at the title and want to know more before you buy it. I mean sometimes a blurb just isn't enough, I'd like to have a look at what this game looks like before hand. However its a dice roll on whether or not you can with a game on there. Also, its a coin toss on whether its going to be a set of images or a video. Most of the time I don't want a video in the preview, if you wanted to give me a vid allow me to download one.. I'd just rather see a few screenshots. It just seems very lazy of them to not just stick a few screenshots in with the games so I can get a better look without having to buy them. With the box, I think I've seen at the most two or three games that don't have screenshots to look at.

As said, very, very petty reasons. Though that's all I can run with, I can't really compare the online gameplay when I've only played one... Wouldn't be fair.

Also, as I imagine this will come up when talking about the marketplace, the whole "Yeah but you have to pay for XBL" to which I retort "Yes you do, to play online that is, however I'm not comparing the online play... I'm comparing the marketplaces (the only thing I can compare). You can access the XBLM for free".

Wow, I think I've wrote an essay.

That's a nice community you got there, bro.
To be fair (and this applies to all people talking about communities... I'm just singling you out because you was closer) there's an option to mute all but your friends. That or you can go into party mode which also mutes everyone but your friends and you can auto-join their games. Not sure if the PS3 has that, as you'll note above, I haven't played a game on PSN.

Though if you can, its a recommend for anyone because, people are dicks no matter the community, best off just muting them from the start. Its done wonders for my enjoyment of playing online.

To some it up.... I can't imagine neither community is good at all. So if you have the option to mute them... Mute them :)
