Ugh. That's why I like it when people are murdered after they're raped. I'd rather not look at them suffer.

Murder is generally defined as an unlawful homicide with premeditated malice. Under this definition, it can no more be justified than rape can. As such, I would have to go with murder as being the worse crime, since the wounds it causes can never be healed.

As for which is "worse" for the victim, obviously it's murder. Really, doesn't need to be debated. As for which is the "worse" act e.g is the rapist or the murderer the worse person, that entirely depends on the specific case, there's a bazillion reasons for both and trying to make a blanket statement about all those reasons is impossible.

rape

murder: can be justified; war, they tried to kill someone you care about or you or successfully killed someone you care about, or other reasons i haven't yet thought of.

rape: under no circumstance can this be justified.

in my mind I always connect a "worst case scenario" of rape with torture and you can irreversibly damage someone(and those around them with torture which will always affect more people than murder.

murder: truly affects only those who truly knew the victim.

rape(more directly, torture): I know of methods that are so terrifying that it will make those who never knew the person cringe in pain and have nightmares of the process;
most horror movies demonstrate the concept but more directly the 1 guy 1 jar video, or 3 guys 1 hammer video.
essentially because the review of the incident damages more people than murder, i say rape (or torture which you can do at the same time)

i wanted to say more on this but i forgot mid rant so i'll stop here
please pm me if curious on anything i've said or would like to change my mind(please do help me to change my mind since i honestly scare myself frequently)

Quite frnakly put me in the Murder boat, rape doesn't even ALWAYS have consequences on the victim anyway, there are people who WANT to raped (not many, but still)...
There are people who want to die too.

Point?
Well you don't HAVE to be murdered to die, but theres no secondary way of being raped.

According to Captcha this post was brought to you by the "number suedse"

Murder. Rape is certainly a terrible thing...but pretty much only for women. The reason they say 99% of rape victims are females raped by males is because a no male is going to have unwilling sex with a woman after they hit puberty, even if it was "forced" on them.

[small]Obviously I don't really know jack shit about male rape victims, but it seems to make sense out of context so SHADDUP[/small]

Murder is much worse When you stop breathing you cant take meds after rape you still can. Easy one fer me!

Well i'll go into further detail, Murder is as a poster above me mentioned is not in response to being attacked, therefore all Murder is voluntary as is Rape. Both have long lasting after-effects, both on the mental and physical natures of the victim. However at the end one victim is no longer on this earth and the other is. Physiological damage can be mended with time, therapy, and liberal doses of medication ,as mentioned above. And in regards to the assailant, Murderers often have regrets and mental stress about what they have done, Rapists on the other hand only regret getting caught.

After considering this we can draw only one conclusion that is Murder is as regarded as a whole more traumatic to the victim and Kin than Rape.

P.S. I am not belittling the horrible effects of Rape, but look to present both as statistics to be calculated.

I would normally say definitely that rape is the worse of the two. Its a complete taking of power, an absolute mental subversion physically and emotionally scarring to anyone it happens to, there are definite risks to the victim not encountered in any other crime, including but definitely not limited to emotional and psychological torment and damage, relationship trouble, control issues, and potential for social exile or stigma (face it, as advanced as modern societies are, a good number of them don't actually have good ways of dealing with rape victims, advanced or not.)

That being said, there is a certain finality to death that certainly makes murder a great concern. Even if a killing can be justified, there is no denying that for many people it either causes them internal pain or anguish when they have to do it, or the damage was done before they did the deed. And that's for killing, not murder. Murder, or the unjustified and intentional killing of someone (Big hint on the actual definition of the word for people claiming murder can be justified... it goes Manslaughter: accidental killing, Homicide: intentional killing that can possibly be justified, Murder: unjustified Homicide. There, defined.) is a completely different ballgame. And for the victim here, there is no recovery, no second chance. I'll give you another big hint here. There have been cases of people being attacked, and having "died" on the operating table while they were trying to be saved. In those cases, the assailant was not tried for murder, but for attempted murder. For real murder, the victim has to stay dead.

And now, I will say something relevant to this subject that despite any appearances of a joke or light-hearted humor, is 100% serious, and about 80% offensive to 90% of people. For that reason, I have hidden it behind a spoiler.
In a case where both are done by a perpetrator to a victim in the same short time span, I think many would agree that whichever one happened second would be worse.

I can't help but say that they are on Par. They both hit pretty high on the sick and immoral act meter.
Inclined to agree, there comes a point on the moral-o-metre where what's "worse" really becomes irrelevant.

Still, at least with rape, you have the chance to work through it and everything.

well when murder definitly has worse resolds (against the person it was comited on)
i find rape far more sick because you force sex something that is suposed to be the ultimate expresion for love and they do it against theyr will with someone they dont love and sometimes doesnt even know!
whyle in murder they wont suffer any of the humilliation the trauma or other unwanted resolts of rape BUT they will be dead...

I think we need to draw a distinction between murder and killing. Killing can be justified, if it's in self-defence or similar. Murder has nothing to do with self-defence, and cannot be justified. That's why it's called Murder, not just killing. If it's in self-defence, it's manslaughter. Murder is never justifiable. I wish more people understood this.

That being said, I think murder is worse. It is possible to recover from being raped. So far we only have one (alleged) recovery from murder, and that was about 2000 years ago.

To me there are variables to both events that could make one worse than the other, such as length of crime (e.g. short death or slow, painful death), reasons for action, and the effect it has on the victim and the community. On the whole, neither are very good in the first place.

Objectively I'd consider them the same thing.

Both are instances of a wilful intention to harm another person.

Reasoning may vary but I'm just a black and white sort of person. That shit isn't right.

I rather be killed than be raped. No one deserves to be raped. Logically speaking it is one of the most horrifying and emotionally brutalizing acts that could be committed on a human.

I know someone who was raped by 3 men at the same time (back rear oral) kept it a secret due to threats of murder, ended up getting pregnant, was drugged by the family and dragged to an abortion clinic upon the family finding out. On top of all that, the 3 people were 1 boy her age, his step-father, and his step-fathers friend.

****ed up.

Just thinking about this makes me want to puke.

I know a soldier from the war of vietnam. His name is nick, he was dishonorably discharged because of murder. He was ordered to enter a village and kill everyone but these were no the people that got him dishonorably discharged, it was because he killed his liutenant when he wanted to rape a young girl. You tell me which is worse

While I've never been victim to either crime, I have witnessed both. I've also met some of the most vile, despicable scum you could imagine.

In my opinion rape is the greater of the two evils. As many have pointed out, murder can be justified under certain circumstances. There are people out there who are to powerful and too dangerous to be left unmurdered, even in prison. I've met them. I have no compunction about murdering such people. I've never met or heard of anyone who is too dangerous to be left unraped. Some might argue that murdering murderers is wrong. I would argue that if a man strangles a 10 year old girl on a whim, that he has forfeit his life.

As far as my rankings of crimes go, my top three are:
1. Torture. (Nothing that Hollywood can make or that you can imagine comes even close to the toll it takes on the psyche. Unfortunately the ticking bomb scenario does sometimes justify it.)

2. Rape. (While I believe that rape is never justified, when I compare it to torture it just comes off as very, very, slightly less evil than torture.)

3. Murder. (Can be justified, often quite easily. Murdering murderers, self-defense, etc. There are often clear and tangible motives behind murders, even petty ones like money.)

To be honest I'm not entirely sure that rape and torture shouldn't be tied for first place; as one post pointed out, rape can be considered torture. But then, many torture victims are killed after the necessary information is obtained, whereas most rape victims are left alive, so it's debatable.
