I voted for Mick Jaeger. HURRHURRHURRHURRHURRHURRHURRHURRHURR-

Okay. It's late, I'm giggling like an idiot in front of my computer in an otherwise darkened room and if I didn't have the house all to myself, even my freaking dog would be worried.

I'm sorry. Terribly sorry.

Seriously, Cherno Alpha was awesome. It's the freaking buzz-saws, man.

Jeeze, Captcha! I said I was tired already! I *know* that was the corniest joke ever! Rub it in, why don't you, huh?!

I really liked Crimson Typhoon, with it four spinning knife arms.

Since no one has pointed this out yet, Idris Elba the guy who played Stacker Pentecost (the commander or leader) who replaced the Aussie dad after he got hurt is from England so I'm not sure what American you are talking about.
Woopsy...

I know Idris Elba is English (I've watched Luther and everything) and doing some google-fu I've discovered that Pentecost is supposedly from Tottenham too, but having watched he film I'd never have guessed that. Watching it Pentecost the character carries himself like an American, sounds like one and has the mannerisms, even his name sounds American.

I was wrong to assume he was a yank, but as a pom watching movies here in Englishland I honestly thought he was.

Yeah, wanting the Meister option as well.

Failing that I guess Id take a cup of Georgia May... if she did something with her teeth.

Oh, this is a film... uhh, ill wait for home release ;)

I really like the look of Coyote Tango, Stacker Pentecost's (Idris Elba) Jaeger, but we didn't see much of it in the film. The cannons on it's back are just badass, look a little like War Machine.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but I agree. The russian one looked BAD ASS. I love it's oversized superarmored head.
That's not its head actually, it's the reactor. The head is the tiny cabin on it's chest just below the reactor, see pic.

It definitely was the most badass Jaeger though. RUSSIA STRONG. BUILD IT ONCE, BUILD IT RIGHT.

Well for ones I liked I'd say Brawler Yukon or Mammoth Apostle, they never show the second but the name and that fact that it is never shown made me too damn intrigued by it.

For ones that were shown in the movie Cherno Alpha hands down

None of them?

I was just put off by the lack of mech diversity. They look a little more unique than, say, anything from Bay's transformer snorefests, but given their origin in various manga/anime, they were unfortunately all very similar.

The Epyon whip-chain-sword that Gipsy Danger pulled out was badass on several levels, but that was really the only moment I was "wowed" by anything the mechs in the movie offered. It seemed more sensible than they'd all have some kind of "weapon," even if it was just a giant sword or lance or tail-mounted flamethrower. Yknow? Even when he just picked up a ship and whacked the bad guy with it, it seemed to be far more effective than the silly punching they did for most of the film.
Pretty much this. Crimson Typhoon was my favourite but even though I´m no connaisseur in mecha anime, I was disappointed by the lack of diversity of both jaegers and kaijus. Plus, out of the four mechs they decided to focus on, they very quickly kill the two that do actually stand apart at least a bit to leave us with the more generic two for the rest of the movie.

All in all, Pacific Rim was actually quite a disappointment for me...

Striker Eureka for me. It looks the most like a "real" mech out of all of them, Gypsy Danger especially borders on the super robot side of things. Plus it's head kind of looks like a Flag from Gundam 00.

Close second would be EVA Unit-00 Asuka custom or rather "Crimson Typhoon."

If it weren't for the fact that the reactor was basically unshielded Coyote tango would be the ride for me.

Two shoulder-mounted artillery pieces for sustained long-range engagement and a well rounded close quarters combat frame.

I always thought Guncannon had the lock-down on the vanilla Gundam if it weren't for plot armour anyway.

I'm reasonably sure the "Mk.6" would have had broader long-range capability as well considering that post-movie Jaeger technology would probably be vastly scaled-down and geared to "pre-kaiju warfare"

Gipsy Danger was rather awesome indeed but Cherno Alpha just nailed the Russian way of doing things. Obsolete? No matter, we hold the line irregardless. All you need are giant robot fists and a bottle of vodka!!
Pretty much this. There's no such thing as "obsolete" technology in Russia, there's only things that work and things that don't work.
And the things that don't work can be fixed with a few smacks and a variety of choice language.

OT: I'm in the Cherno Alpha group as well.

After seeing the film yesterday, I have to say it's Gipsy Danger, all the way. Why? It has GLaDOS for it's AI, you can't beat that! :D

I was rather disappointed that these supposedly "elite" Jaegers (Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon) were pasted in a matter of minutes, though. I was sat in my seat thinking "awwww yis, big-ass fight coming up!" and then they got obliterated. Harrumph. :/

My personal favourite after Cherno Alpha is Chrome Brutus. I do not know what it looks like but it is still my favourite.

I gotta vote for Gipsy Danger
The second version had both plasma cannon hands and forearm mounted blades, and the reactor in the chest just makes me think of Iron Man

However I must admit that both Cherno Alpha and Alpha Striker also look really awesome... then again they are giant robots so looking awesome is more or less a given.
