title says it all, of all the movies in the matrix trilogy, which one was the best.

In my opinion, the second movie was the top of the trilogy, it had the best action and the story was still untangled enough to follow.

The first one. Darker, more mysterious, and felt WAY more cyber-punk than the other 2.

But I will say...that my favorite line did come from the 2nd Matrix film.

The Architect, "Your life is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherit to the programming of the Matrix."

I loved the first one, great storlyine and awesome action scenes. The second had the best action in the series but it was pretty hard to follow and after 3 viewings I still have no idea what the architect said. The third was just a confusing mess.

First one for story, second for action, third for bitter, bitter disappointment.

First one obvi. The only one that really mattered imo. The other ones didn't do anything special that I know of.

The first one. The second and third film (which, like the Kill Bill films, are really just two halves of one long film split for audience convenience and should really be assessed as such) should never have been made, they dilute the point of the story significantly, replacing the original's Lacanian theme and novel structure with a standard "save the base from attack" action film format we've all seen done better dozens of times before. Plus there's THAT dance sequence, probably one of the most cringeworthy moments in the history of cinema, how could anyone say the second film is best after seeing that eyesore? No accounting for taste I guess...

Wait what? Seriously? While I do hate the sequels less than most real fans of the first one, there isn't anything even vaguely reminiscent of a competition.

The first is a fully fleshed out movie, and one of my top 10 favourite of all time.

The second is fun to watch, and has some absolutely awesome action scenes, but originality and plot are not its strong points at all. The third is just overall meh, only a couple really cool fight scenes and the plot isn't anywhere the quality of the first, confusing and disappointing most people.

The one that cut in between the absolutely unnecessary and totally awkward sex scene?

The third one stood out the most to me.

I actually kinda liked the second Matrix movie, and could tolerate the 3rd...however, the biggest problem with those 2 movies was that inevitably they would be held next to the original. And while the sequels are decent, somewhat forgettable action flicks, the first was revolutionary.

Oh, and even though we probably all heard this from XKCD, wanna feel old? Well, the Matrix was released, not last decade, but the decade BEFORE THAT. You're welcome.
