In my opinion, Microsoft and Sony were both treading water at this event. They didn't do anything really bad, other than a few too many cinematic trailers from Microsoft, and a bit too much non-game talk from Sony. Nothing from either company made me really excited (except for Grim Fandago rerelease, because I really want to play that game), but I'm sure some stuff shown really excited some people.
I didn't watch Ubisoft's conference, because I don't care about any Ubisoft game except Rocksmith, and it seems I didn't miss much. EA's conference though was really terrible. I was actually looking forward to EA's conference, as I wanted to know more about the new Battlefront, Mass Effect, and Mirror's Edge games. Except with Battlefront and Mass Effect they just told us these games exist, and with Mirror's edge they showed footage from a 'conceptual prototype' (aka, this is what the game might look like). The only thing I liked about that show was the Battlefield Hardline beta announcement (which I got into and have been having some fun with), but even then, we learned more about the game from the leaked trailer a few weeks ago then we learned at E3. Overall a disappointing showing from EA.
Nintendo however, has been doing a fantastic job this year. I was a bit hesitant at another Nintendo Direct, as last year's was pretty boring, but boy was I wrong. The Direct was funny, interesting, and had a bunch of announcements, most of witch with gameplay. It was by far the most entertaining showing at E3 this year.
But where Nintendo has been really excelling has been in their community interaction throughout the show. The "Treehouse at E3" stream has been a great way to see gameplay of various titles that Nintendo is showing off, and is pretty entertaining to watch. I also like how they are spacing announcements throughout the week (Like the Pac-man in smash bros), which helps keep the interest up. Finally, the Super Smash Bros. Invitational was a blast, and has made me even more excited for the new Smash Bros. (which I didn't think was possible). It was probably the best possible way to show off their biggest title, and anyone who hasn't watched it should really check it out.
So yeah, Nintendo wins E3 due to strong fan interaction outside of the press conference. Well done.
