I don't know why people despise metallica. Granted, they're new album's not that good, but you should look at the band as a whole. We don't remember elvis for his last works now, do we?
I've been a Metallica Hater since day 1. I'll admit that "Master of Puppets" and "And Justice for all" are exelent thrash albums. But I can't stand James's voice, Lars is all over the place and last but not least: egos. These guys think there so great but act like grown babies all the time. Metallica have some awesome songs but are pretty overrated, 'Reign in Blood' by Slayer is simply the best album from the big four thrash bands.
I'd have to go with a tie between Metallica and Megadeth. Slayer I just started listening to about a month or two ago (by listening I mean two full cds worth) and they've quickly gone up on my list. Anthrax I've heard very little from and can't personally make a decision on whether I like them or not.
Also: basis for calling bands sellouts? could someone explain that for me? If it's getting famous and having a wide fanbase and wanting to please their fans, then technically all bands are sellouts.

Slayer are pretty damn good, but each album tends to be the same song with different titles.
Anthrax are meh. I've never really got into them.
The only thing keeping me from voting Metallica, despite them being the only metal band I really know, is the whole Napster thing. And of course that I'm not educated enough on the subject (my main exposure comes from my friends wearing metal band t-shirts a lot).

Respect different parts of each band, instead of fucking banishing one band in favour of another.
My pick among the Big Four:
1. Metallica - I have listened to them since 5th grade, and is the band that introduced me to the music I love today.
2. Slayer - Listening more and more to these guys recently. Alot of awesome stuff.
3. Megadeth - Don't listen to them that much, but they're still pretty damn good.
4. Anthrax - Dunno... They're good, I just couldn't really get into them.
I actually prefer alot of thrash to Megadeth and Anthrax though... Testament, Annihilator, Kreator, Exodus... And if you count them as Thrash I would put Pantera and Sepultura high up on the list.
