Simple really; which phone do you think I should get? I'm going to be buying a new phone next month and I've narrowed it down to three choices; the iPhone 4S, the Samsung Galaxy S2 or the Motorola Droid Razr.

I'll be mostly using the phone as a media player (particularly music), as well as a web browser for the train, a bit of mobile gaming and as a camera/camcorder.

I know that all the phones have their good points and bad points which makes it so difficult. I have an Android at the moment (HTC Wildfire AKA HTC Buzz in the US) and it's... well crap and it's made me quite skeptical of the reliability of Android phones. Is this still an issue for the newer phones?

Thanks :)

What specifically is unreliable about your Android phone? Is it something specific to the OS? Android as a platform shouldn't be really criticized for things like broken microphones and such. Even the OS is meddled with by most manufacturers.

Whether or not you plan to jailbreak/root your phone is also a factor.

My phone is just generally slow and unresponsive. Apps crash for seemingly no reason and the music player stops playing music for upto 30 seconds at random points. Closing all the apps and using task managers and the like don't really help. I wouldn't mind but I've only had the phone a few months and it's been like this for a while.

As for jailbreaking/rooting I'd probably jailbreak the iPhone once the warranty runs out. I wouldn't root my Droid as I'm not very tech savvy and would be worried about breaking it.

Go for a windows phone 7. It's an awesome OS. I have a HTC HD7 and it's very fast, constantly updated and a great phone. Find one for more or less 300 dollars on ebay.

Once the warranty runs out, it won't be worth jailbreaking your iPhone. Anything useful about jailbreaking comes from using the full capacity of the phone while it's still relatively new.
Yeah I suppose. I mean its not a big deal to just unjailbreak (is that a word) the phone.

I do like the WP7 OS but there's not very many apps for it and it doesn't look like there will be anytime soon. Plus they don't have enough internal memory for me, otherwise I'd be considering a Nokia Lumia 800 as well.

First of all Samsung sucks more than HTC. They have there own UI pulled over Android and it blows. So, between Samsung and HTC, I would go for HTC.

When you look at hardware specs and design, there really isn't much difference anymore between the high end smartphones. So, basically it comes down to two things: OS and community.

Both Android and iOS (iPhone) are great and have a good community with many different apps available. The iOS has more games, but Android has more freedom (you can install your own apps). In the end it comes down to personal taste.

Personally, I still like iOS more. It is more stable, faster, looks better and it's more intuitive. But it lacks the freedom and flexibility of Android and you have to use iTunes to synch your account. Although there are good apps available on the iPhone that are better than the standard iPhone music/movie player to fix part of the problem.

Honestly, I think the best option out there is the iPhone. I don't like Apple, and I love this thing. It's a huge improvement from my droid.

And I would avoid the droid razor like the plague. I've had 6 phones in my life, and the worst one I've ever had was the original razor, followed by the droid. I can only imagine the shitstorm of combining the two!

The samsung you want is one of the highest quality android phones out there. It probably isn't as well made as a 4s, but if you are hard set on android then that is the one to go with. The one thing that seriously deters me from ever buying an android phone is the lack of long term support. For example, new android phones won't be able to get new updates after as little as 6 months. And that's for phones just being released, the S2 has been out for a while. iPhones get updates for a couple years (I think the second generation iPhone is still getting updates).

I was going to switch to windows phone 7, but then I took a serious lack of apps to the knee.
