I've always wondered which Ultima was the best, so I've decided to see what all you guys think, and see which one comes out on top.
Note:
I only mean Main Ultima games, that's why Ultima Underworld isn't a choice.
Ultima 8 and 9 aren't options because 8 wasn't very good, and Ultima 9 was, well, Ultima 9, ana I only have 8 options so I had to remove something.
If you vote for Serpent Isle it ultimately counts as a vote for Ultima 7, but it's a seperate choice because It can be.

I'm going to have to go with Ultima 4, mainly because it was the first RPG that didn't really involve going out and destroying some great evil, but to attempt to master virtues and essentially become a God.

I doubt you'll get many replies to this, I think there's about 6 people on the forums who have actually played the Ultimas.

4 was the most ground breaking, and probably the most critically adored.

7 and Serpent's Isle were the most accessible and the most popular.

5 is probably the most ambitious, and the most ahead of its time.

I voted for 5, but an argument can be made for any of those three.

Wow, that's depressing.
The majority of people on here are 15-24. A lot of them weren't even born yet when that series was in its heyday.
Still, you'd think more people would have played classic Ultima games, especially the ones interested in RPGs. Didn't think birth date really limited it that much.

I actually liked VII best, myself. Simply because you have so much to do in it. Though special mention goes to V.

Going on GoG.com to get Ultima 4 now. I was too busy playing Baldurs gate when I was a kid to notice this title I'm afraid o_O

Lot of people missed it because of Baldurs Gate, so that's okay, but hey, at least 4 is free.

I played 7 and 9. And Online. So I had to vote for 7. It completely blew me away, and then 9 made me sad. Recently I tried to play the other ones, but they've aged less like scotch and more like bread.

I feel like I missed out on something special.

P.S. I like cheap scotch more then expensive scotch. I can't help it. The good stuff tastes like gas.

They are bloody old though - there does come a point where trying to play them is a fruitless effort.

I know that personally I can't get into anything older than the stuff I played as a kid (Deus Ex and Thief 2, basically).

Closer to a Buddha.

Ultima V blew my fucking mind, being my first taste of Ultima. I had no idea why Lord British was always telling me how disappointing I was (I was stealing food and anything else I could nick like a good rpg adventurer normally does). It was amazing that the game fit on five 5.25 disks.

I own ultima 1-7. I meant to play them in order.

I got to ultima 2. I don't have a soul anymore. I just...nothing..ever prepared me for that.. why would they do that to me?! I WAS SO YOUNG AND FULL OF HOPES!

Ultima 2 is rather a slog through the mud, it's true. There's a reason it tends to rank rather low on the list.

I'm an Ultima 4 guy, myself. I think a person's introduction to the Ultima games tends to influence what they consider their favorite, and U4 was my first - I first played it when I was, oh, ten or so, and I didn't even realize there were more after that until college! I've admittedly only finished 1, 4, 7 and Serpent Isle, but I've played all of them to some extent over the years, and I love 'em to death. 4's the one I keep coming back to, though, so that's my vote.

Its a 3 way tie for me. U4, U6, or U7p1. Since I have only one choice available to vote for I guess I'll go with U7
