Now, my conundrum is this; I'm starting 40K up again, a few friends are interested and are buying armies. ( Blood Angels, Grey Knights, Orks and Chaos/Tyranids )
Oh-ho. You've got a solid group right there. All you need is an IG player, and you've got a great campaign group.

I'm unsure whether to Repair my Dark Angel army ( Standing at just over 5000pts and mostly consisting of 1st/2nd edition models ) or too chose a new army/collect a new batch of speeeshmehreens.
Hot damn. First and second? Does that mean you have those absolutely awesome early Terminators? Because depending on how many of those you have (dreads, too, if memory serves), that might affect my recommendation.

I'm looking at the Tau with interest, because I think they look awesome and I like their longer range, though they'd suck in CQB unless supported with Kroot/Battlesuits. Other than that I'm not sure if I'd want to collect any of the other armies available.
I've had rather bad experiences with Tau. Or rather, I've had
good experiences playing against them, so only bad for my opponent. The Firewarriors aren't terribly good shots to begin with, and for all the punch their rifles had, my Iron Warriors still managed to outgun them. Heavy bolters make mincemeat out of them, and Kroot are all well and good against light infantry, but they're a soft counter. Raptors and Berzerkers eat them alive. Same goes for other designated assault troops.

So, my question to you is, what do you think I should do? Repair/Repaint my old army, Collect a new Space Marine army or start anew with Tau?( Looking at most of 1500pts battles ).
In all honesty, with some of those 1st/2nd edition models, you could have the foundations of an absolutely stunning Necron army. And, quite frankly, they're a great army if you're starting from scratch. Easy to paint if you want to go simple, and tough as nails. Immortals can chew through everything short of Space Marines effortlessly, and the rank-and-file just won't stay down. Imagine Space Marines with Ld10 and Feel No Pain at 18pts a pop. Sure, they're Initiative 2, but that's a small price to pay.
