I'm recently playing Skyrim and I realized that the Elder Scrolls and Fallout are similar in their world structure (open-ended and the like) but I then had an argument with my friend on which series has a better world. I was steadfastly staying with Elder Scrolls (I have played Arena, Oblivion, and Skyim), while my friend stood with Fallout (he kept citing New Vegas).

So I'd like to ask the community: Do you think the Elder Scrolls has a better world? Or, Fallout? And why? Anything goes.

I'll start by saying that I prefer the Elder Scrolls due to the extensive (and contradictory, but digestible) lore and its massive references to the other games. (I've played Oblivion and Skyrim, and loaded Arena and Daggerfall on my PC.)

Fallout has that gritty feel that just makes it sexy and dark but Morrowind took my heart long ago, while I do find some aspects of the Elder Scrolls world poncy it still wins me over for the sheer amount of time it has took from me.

Daedra > Mutants

The Wasteland is infinitely better than Tamriel in terms of feel and atmosphere. I will also say that Fallout is just an all around better series.

I'd have to go with Elder Scrolls.

Purely because i've invested far more hours into the lore and feel of those games than the fallout ones.

By the time i'd laid my hands on the first 2 Fallout games i'd already sunk hundreds of hours into Daggerfall and Morrowind.

By the time I got round to Fallout 3 and New Vegas i'd put hundreds more hours into Oblivion.

Then, more recently, I sunk more hours (and i'm still sinking hours into) Skyrim.

I like the Fallout games but I prefer Elder Scrolls.

I think I have seen this same question like 4 times on this sight, I have been here less than a year. Anyway Elder Scrolls can be clever in it's lore but I do think Fallout dose a better job explain it in the game. But I am going to say Fallout.

I really like both games but I'm going with Fallout on this one because while I like the straight up lore of Elder Scrolls more, the weird stuff that's in books and not directly presented in the games are really weird. Like a lot of stuff that has to do with the daedra and the aedra and someone told me that every character in each game is actually an avatar of Lorkhan and its all really complicated and weird and so confusing that it kind of puts me off.

Post-apocalyptic retro 50s future with distinctive visual elements beats Fantasy 101.

I have to vote Elder Scrolls solely on the basis of Morrowind. The wasteland is an absolutely fantastic place to get lost in and to explore but it just can't match the handcrafted richness of Vvardenfell.

Fallout is filled with interesting characters and stories. Elder Scrolls has people who have had all traces of humanity and emotion wiped out by some kind of soul devouring aliens.

I have to say that I felt more connected and immersed in Fallout's gritty post apocalyptic setting compared to The Elder Scrolls' bright vibrant landscape.

Why would I want to live in an irradiated wasteland when I could have views like this

The Elder Scrolls world Tamriel, has way more variation than the world of Fallout.

Don't forget that we have only seen Syrim, Cyrodill, and Morrowind.

Fallout does one thing and does it very well, but it still is very limited.

And seriously, where would you (the reader) rather live?

Contrary to what Bethesda wants you to believe, that's what Fallout's Northern California looks like.

Southern California was, and always will be, a badland. It was a badland in pre-war time, it was a desert after.

The NCR looks a lot like pre-war America, with uniformed police and all.

Look up.

Bethesda only wants to have a wasteland because gamers ***** and moan if any sort of progress is made.

They just want more of the same.
Well it makes sense. Though it isn't only Bethesda with the wasteland. I don't think 1 or 2 showed any plants that weren't made by farming. plus New Vegas was made by Obsidian who only showed plants at farms and that one vault. I still would want to live in Tamriel though. It is a whole new world with new places and races. Fallout is earth on 50's science and mutations. I just love the Elder Scrolls series. It was the first time I saw the you can be anything and when I looked upon Cyrodil I was sold. Plus I could be a mage in Tamriel so fuck yeah.

1. Fallout 1 was in southern California. A badland.

2. Fallout 2 had trees, even water. They fished in the ocean and lakes.

3. New Vegas was set in the Mojave desert. Nothing really grows there unless you have the ability to pump water, which Vegas has.
Well I never played the originals I was just guessing. I was just saying that the non-Bethesda title had their settings in wasteland places too, only Fallout 2 had a non-wasteland set up. I didn't know Fallout 2 had plants and trees.
