With the initial release of Fable in 2004 I was completely and utterly blown away. I was immersed in the fantasy world of Albion, a mystical realm of Heroes and Villains. A world where you could set your own path and become the greatest hero to walk the roads of Albion.

Then in 2008 Fable 2 was released. And to tell the truth, i was fairly disappointed. Now don't get me wrong i really liked the game, it was bigger, prettier and more expansive into the world of Albion. But it wasn't the Fable that i had come to know and love.

Then came the bastard child, Fable 3. At first Fable 3 was just more of Fable 2, which isn't a bad thing, but this time instead of having an actual moral dilemma to answer to end the game like in Fables 1 and 2, you get a total bullshit excuse for a morality choice. OK, here's the choice, either live in poverty for just one more year and you all get to live, or get the greatest year of your peasant lives but then die in the impending apocalypse. And why don't i have the option of explaining this to my subjects or even just reversing the choices I've made after the war is over?

But hey those are just my opinions. But what about you guys? which is your favorite and why?

Exactly what was said in Zero Punctuation.
Those aren't your opinions. You just plagarized them!
how is that plagerism? Was Yhatzee the first to play the game and review it? no. these are the thoughts and opions of many average gamers, not just one witty English game reviewer.

Fable: Lost Chapters - I really think it all should have stopped after that. I did not like Fable II at all. I liked Fable III way better then Fable II, but Lost Chapters trumps them both.

Agreed sounds like plagiarism.
OT: I love 2 as it was the first to get the experience of living the character how you wanted to.
Also the journey you take and the cast are brilliant as long as you ignore the small blip at the end.

None of them are very good, but of course I voted "Fable 1" (or "Fable I", or the "Fable: Peter Molyneux's dream game that actually isn't as amazing as it should be"). At least it tried to be as open as was claimed, they just phoned it in in the sequels (especially 3, or III, or "Fable: Ridiculously disappoi- no f*ck it I'm not doing this again, I'm tired and my brain hurts"), which were stupidly easy and linear for a series about "freedom" (which I may remind you isn't achievable in a work of fiction).

Loved the first one, hated the second one so much that it killed the series in my mind (so I haven't and won't try the third one).

The Lost Chapters. I don't need to explain, Fable 3 was a chore and I never got Fable 2 because it never saw a PC release.

I was only able to play 2 & 3` (wanted to play TLC though), but I find it hard to say which I like more. Each has something it did better than the other, and they balance each other out.

It's the very same problem I have with Mass Effect 1 & 2. I love both, but I find it very hard to say which I love more.

the only good one, TLC.
peter needs a big dose of calm the fuck down.
he does make some good innovations but ends up losing the basics that made the game fun.

I think the second one was my favorite, I liked all three, but I will agree with a lot of people in saying that they were overhyped.

I also think Fable 3 started off great with the choice you make at the very start, but all in all it pretty much went downhill from there.

I first played TLC, but was kind of put off by the graphics. However, it was a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed it. PErsonally, I like 2 the best, becasue you can see how an entire kingdom has progressed in 500 years, not to mentiont hat there was more customization available. However, I wish there were more places to see in II, as they left out a fair number of areas that were in TLC. I was quite disappointed in III, though. It was liek they had tried to take II and bring it back around to fit into TLC's shoes, but ignored a lot of the improvements that II had. Normally, I would not ahve a problem witht his, but III short quest line and shortage of playable areas left me sad.

I'm not quite sure why II gets so much hate. If you analyze it as a game, it had good graphics, a good soundtrack, and beautiful landscapes. The gameplay wasn't action heavy, and my 8 year old brother figured it out, but as a game it is fun, in a casual sort of way. It also had significantly less bugs in it than TLC. All in all, it's probably my favorite of the series, and it's one I can go back and play over and over.

If you compared them to each other, I would say that TLC was made quickly but fully, leaving a number of game breaking bugs; II was made fully, but not immersively, so that it felt rather unambitious at times; and III was made with too amny hopes and not enough time, so that the result feels half finished, almost like the retarded kid who does stupid things to make the cool kids laugh, thus making him feel like part of the gang.

I've never actually played the lost chapters. I've played the other three though and of them, my favorite is Fable 2. I honestly don't remember the first one very well but I remember owning it on the original Xbox and playing the hell out of it. Fable 3 was one that I tried really hard to like but just...couldn't. It was like playing Fable 2 only with worse layout choices (granted, once you use the magic in Fable 3 it's like you're cheating)

For character interaction and layout though, Fable 2 is my favorite.

TLC honestly, though Fable 3 is a close second in my book.

I will be honest initially I was put off by all the hyper criticism fable 3 got. I was to the point I had no intention to play it. However I am glad I changed my mind on that because I am quite happy I played it and realized that.. well... people are fairly stupid and one should not get suckered into trusting someones opinions.

Edit: As for the moral choice in fable 3.. honestly it wasnt much of a choice because I had so much money to work with, that I ended up spending loads of it on the defense to the point that there was no way I could fail. The only time I chose the dickish profitable route is when I agreed with the notion behind it, regardless of money. So honestly it wasnt that good of a moral choice at all.

2 was the best overall, 3 had much better multiplayer though (sharing a camera online was the dumbest idea ever in 2). 3 does do some things better but overall it's too dumbed down and adds more problems than it fixes than 2. If they made one that combined the best of 2 and 3 it would be the best Fable ever.

Instead we get that Kinect game..

Defiantly Fable:TLC, although I haven't played Fable 3, but from the sounds of it it could barely call itself a Fable game.

I think Fable:TLC is better mostly because Jack of Blades was a damn good villain. Lucien in Fable II was just pathetic. There are many features I liked in Fable II, most notably the fact that you could replay that games equivalent of the Arena (can't remember what it was called in Fable II) as many times as you wanted. You only got the grand prize the first time, but you got the prizes for each round every time.

Fable 3, although I haven't played it, doesn't sound like it can be adequately called a Fable game at all. After all, if I'm not mistaken, you don't even start off as a kid. Both the previous 2 Fable games you started off as a kid and had to do a bunch of stuff before the plot-launching tragedy kicked in. This worked to great effect for character development, or it did for me at least.

i loved fable one and two, and i think two showed the potential the series had despite the overarching presence of a villain who was genuinely imposing and threatening.
but i think fable two shows where the series shines in creating a sense of shared memory between games, when i walked into Oakfield i wondered why oakvale was in the wrong place then found that iconic bridge amidst wraithmarhses in ruins it was all the more upsetting bringing back the firery memories of oakvale.
I miss the series that felt like a folk tale instead of whatever 3 was.
(also i loved the aesthetic of 2 even if moloneusx ripped of brother hood of the wolf)

The tortoise and the hare of course, but the boy who cried wolf isn't bad either.
:D

Fable:TLC seems to be the consensus, and for good reason.

Jack of Blades was awesome, you could do boasts (I'm trying to do the Hobbe Killing one at the moment), decapitations, cooler weapons, PLATE ARMOR, Lightning bolts, Twinblade, of course the Arena and the Scorpion, the Hydra, being a prisoner at the fortress, there was so much memorable content, and the soundtrack was much better than the next installments.

The main thing I recall from Fable 2 is the fucking boss dying in a cutscene with no battle, and for Fable 3 the final boss' moves were copied from a previous mini-boss, as a complete middle finger to the player.
