Out of the dads listed above, Peter is the worst considering how much he abuses Meg, and how he neglects Stewie & Chris. At least Homer TRIES to get Lisa to love him, if not respect and Homer has even had some good fatherly moments with Bart.

The best dad would be Bob Belcher. While Hank is always trying (with good intenions, of course) to mold Bobby into something he can't be, Bob accepts his weird kids for who they are.
That sums up how I feel about the best cartoon dad. Bob will tell his family how awful they are but it's still plain that he loves them. Besides, how many other dads in any reality would go to a Pony-con to get his daughter's toy back?

Worst father to me is hands down Clay Puffington from Morel Orel. I'm shocked that his kids turned out like they did with the way he parented. As for best father, well mine is more of a father figure and he is uncle Iroh from the avatar series.

I wish I had a uncle like Iroh. He was my favorite char in the entire show and was easily the most respectable.

I'm loving some of these answers I forgot about a few of the dads from Adult Swim shows.

Archer... He's the best/worse of both worlds...

OT: Mike Tyson...

Other than that, I consider Professor Utonium to be a great father to the Powerpuff Girls... excluding Mojo Jojo, I guess...

I'm probably not the first one to mention this but in the poll I think you meant to put Randy Marsh not Stan Marsh. Stan's the son not the dad. Also Peter Griffin's probably the worst cartoon dad.

Those were my two choices, though Gambino was a surprisingly deep character, given the type of character he was. I would still probably go with Gendo for worst dad, though, given his manipulative behavior and evi-

Nope, still Peter Griffin. I hate, I hate, I HATE Peter Griffin, especially since we're evidently supposed to find him funny. I don't... I don't even know if we're supposed to hate these characters or not. But I do.

My favorite dad? Probably the dad from Narutaru. One of the few cases where the relationship between the dad and daughter is central, and where the dad is actually one of the best characters in the story.

Well I feel stupid now... I don't watch South park really so I must of gotten them mixed up. Thanks for telling me. Just don't trap me in a time paradox I fear you Weeping Angels.

Why the fuck is Bob in the poll for worst dads? On the show he is shown to be a very excellent father to his children.

I'll go for Hank Hill. He has a son with keen interests and yet his ridiculously narrow principles threaten to destroy him. He shows no interest in what his son likes and actively tries to convert him to what his own principles dictate. It's basically "his way or the highway". I'd be surprised if Bobby makes it past his teens without committing suicide, such must be the state of his confusion and alienation.

Yeah but you could've at least put someone who's actually a bad dad.

I have only seen a handful of eps so I honestly don't know how good or bad he is. Main thing I know is Luise is voiced by one of my favorite voice actress's

Yeah, Gambino was a vile scumbag of a man... yet there was still something there. Eventhough she was probably just one of his "bed warmers" he did care for Shizu and her death obviously upset him. And then there's that small little scene where he gives young Guts that healing balm for the wound on his nose... which he himself mercilessly inflicted, but still...

Because the definition is a bit loose on what constitutes being the worst dad ever, I'm including proper villain tropes, like everybody's death-beam-using warlord, Darkseid.

As for the best? Samurai Jack's father.

I think it's just because... Well, he's just real. Plenty of abusive fathers feel guilty after the fact. It doesn't change what he did. His slip into monstrosity was also somewhat gradual, and his worst moments were often fueled by alcohol. Most writers don't try to portray abusive parents or rapists as people, but Miura really goes the extra mile. It doesn't make these people's actions forgiveable, but they are treated like human beings. It also tears down the walls society builds between us and "them," and makes us realize we have more in common with the "bad guys" then we'd like to admit. There's an emphasis on choice there. It's the same reason I liked neon genesis, despite its many flaws. The "crazy" people were perfectly normal, suggesting we're all a Freudian mess in one way or another, or could become one with the right push.

Not sure about best, but my vote for worst dad has to go to Dr Jonas Venture Senior from the Venture Bros. Despite his reputation as a brilliant scientist and adventurer, as a parent he was at best negligent, at worst sociopathic. When he wasn't delegating his son's care to a robot, he was dragging him off into the life of a boy adventurer, whether he liked it or not, with no concern for the effect constant danger and death would have on a child's psyche.
- Testing his experiments on his son
- Putting him in situations where he had to kill people (including making him kill a man with a house key when he was ten years old)
- Letting his equally deranged adventuring companions mistreat the boy (such as waking him up every morning by putting an unloaded gun to his head, pulling the trigger, and saying "Not today, Rusty")
- Hosting a birthday party for his son, and inviting playboy bunnies, models and actual prostitutes instead of other children
- Completely ignoring a ransom demand when his son was kidnapped, to the point where the kidnappers felt so sorry for the boy they pretended the whole thing was actually part of a local festival to cheer him up

As a result, his now adult son is a neurotic pill-popping failure, doomed to live forever in the shadow of a father the world thought was brilliant, while ironically putting his own sons through a similar childhood (although never to the same extent, despite his seeming lack of care he has gone to great lengths to ensure they are better cared for, and they mostly enjoy themselves)
Oh man, I competely forgot about that ass of a father!

You forgot to mention these three-

He abandoment the orphans whose he was given a trip ride of his compound when that AI release a nerve gas and he seal the area off leaving them behind and trap inside.

He good off when he supposely given "therapy" lesson for his son only to return to heard the end of his son conffesion and he went off saying Rusty should of been greatful for having a adventure life.

He cheated on his friend wife and while making out, he fall onto Rusty cardboard house (can't remember), crushing him.

I liked to think his cause of death was suicude when someone shown him the future (Venture Bro present time) that his futurist ideal were dead and seeing the result of Rusty upbringing.

The whole part about them being clones and having died about 16 or so times beforehand... I think Rusty takes the prize over Jonas Sr. At least Jonas never got Rusty killed... In that way, its the only time Rusty has ever outdone his father in achievements.

Besides that though, yeah... Jonas was a shitty parent.
See, I always saw that as Rusty looking out for the boys, in his own twisted way. He knows from experience how dangerous the boy adventurer/super scientist life is, and with lunatics like the Monarch constantly gunning for him, it's almost inevitable that someone's going to get hurt. His own childhood has left him so messed up that that's the best way he can think of to protect his sons.

Considering Rusty pretty much earns his living by selling on his father's creations, he has never once tried to make money off the cloning technology, only ever using it to revive the boys when they die. Also, it could be argued that being brought back with no memory of the horrible events is what has helped keep them reasonably well-adjusted, unlike Rusty, who is a complete mess.
Yes it's immoral, but it seems he genuinely does it because he cares. In the Halloween episode, Dean finds out the truth from a scientist who helped on the project, who says;
Ben: Have a kid one day, Dean. Hold its lifeless body in your arms, and then tell me how wrong it is. Your grandpap and I perfected genetic engineering because God or whatever gave us a perfect map to do so. Jonas, me, and, yes, your dad saw it as nothing more than a fucking Band-Aid for a really big boo-boo.

Ok. I think you missed something there.

You may have missed the part where Rusty explained he was more or less testing the cloning to sell to the military and after the whole battle of clones, and the Hitler dog incident, he basically scrapped the project. I mean he kind of cares about his kids but really he's just as insensitive to them as his father was. Its a messed up world in general though so I don't think there's much, if any, people who could qualify as decent fathers in that universe.

Lets just go with they're both terrible fathers...
