With the existence of things such as Catan, Carcassonne, and Lost Cities becoming available on the Xbox Live Arcade for download, I've realized that board games are extending themselves more and more into popular culture. I've been a pretty solid board gamer for a while, so it's good to me to see these classic "gateway games" becoming disseminated throughout the video game world. Like drugs, each of these are a gateway into the harder stuff, like Amun-Re, Ra, Puerto Rico, Caylus, and other games that are, to me, a fantastic form of entertainment to rival video games. So what I want to know is, is it working? Has anyone gotten into boardgaming through these games, or do you just play them on the system and that's it?

I used to play Monopoly and a bit of scrabble quite a bit and I also played The Worst case survival game (a game where you are given a possible real life scenario and have to guess the best cause of action) and some pictionary, fun for all the family. Unfortunately I have not had the chance to play many board games recently. It is a big shame.

I also have the Lord of the Rings board game sitting underneath Twister. It looks like a cross between DnD and Snakes and Ladders. It even has it's own ring. Haven't had a chance to play it yet because most of the people I know are scared by the rules. Their loss I think.

I played Catan once, my friend who introduced me to the game pulled a real dick move and kinda turned me off it for awhile though.

I enjoy board games a lot, but unfortunately there are too few that you can play with just two people. We played Cranium at a holiday party recently, and that was fun, but I enjoy Ticket to Ride, Catan, and Carcassonne on XBLA a lot, too.

I can't recommend Lost Cities enough, it is one of my favorites, it is very simple and easy to learn, and fast to play, but just so enjoyable. Try it!

Also if you really like thinking hard, try Yinsh or Dvonn (I recommend Yinsh first). These aren't on the Live Arcade, they're just games, but if you are in person you have to try it.

EDIT: Of course these are all 2 player games, wasn't sure if that was clear :p

Monopoly rarely, and I hate chess. Tried to get into it but I see the joke in most things so I kept pissing off my opponent too much.

I have the Order of the Stick boardgame, after seeing it in the Mall of America. Only played it once so far, but hopefully that'll change. I've also played Settlers of Catan, and won my first time, and now I wanna play it more, but I have no access to it in England.
This christmas, though I've been playing Articulate with my family, which is fun. My favourite though was Escape from Colditz, as it was so intricate and could last for hours.

I tried Lost Cities on XBLA and didn't care for it. It is, perhaps, more fun with a live person, but I was underwhelmed by the digital version.

My ex had bought catan and a couple other games on xbla and I rather enjoy them and I now sometimes think of looking the actual games up and getting them. Luckily I haven't as I don't see them getting much use.
