Hmm. I bought it on the steam sale, I don't think it's a bad game, nor do I dislike it. It just isn't for me. Guess I'm not as big a fan of 2D platformers as I used to be.

I've bought it when it was on sale and I hope it is really hard. If I don't rage quit a few times and yell at my computer, then it doesn't deserve this title and it's not worth buying it.

Playing Street Fighter IV with Sakura? It took 54 tries, but the high upon winning was SO worth it.
really? i thought she was the easiest (read cheapest) character to go. twas her i used to unlock akuma...

super meat boy is hard but its fair, when you faceplant a buzzsaw, its your own fault and that makes you want to try again.

the price of entry for me was only 3.75...a game has to be awfully bad to not be worth that price.

Did things pop out at random to murder you? Were all the obstacles laid out for all to see, or if they weren't, was it easy to predict what would happen where and when?

If the answer is no, yes, and yes, then the level design seems perfectly fair to me.

If it markets itself as a really hard platformer, then it better make me rage quit at least twice! Thus, I'm eagerly anticipating getting it, as you've only upped the appeal to me.
No, things didn't randomly pop out of me. However, it doesn't really help that you can see most of the obstacles when they're still a ***** to get past. You don't really have time to think either, since the game is constantly telling you to keep moving. Sometimes forcing you to do with certain obstacles. RUN THERE JUMP THERE CLING TO THE PLATFORM NO DON'T GO THERE YOU'LL BE KILLED NOW DODGE THAT BUZZ SAW CLIMB UP THE WALL STOP MOVING NOW OR YOU'LL RUN INTO A GEAR oh look you're dead. Now do the whole fucking thing over again.
And the problem is....?

Intense speed and precision are awesome.

This game is ridiculously hard, but in a way that keeps me going "one more try" rather than in a way that makes me pu down the controller and not play it.

I beat I Wanna Be The Guy on very hard and almost in impossible mode. Super Meat Boy is a walk in the park by comparison.

Let me put it this way: A hard game designed well can annoy me but not let me stop playing, an easy game designed poorly I can only play for ten minutes before getting fed up.
Super Meat Boy fell in the latter category.

At the point where I kept dying because I jumped over a saw blade, and then was killed by another saw blade off the side of the screen. Then killed by a third one on my second try. I said screw this and stopped playing.
It is not worth the £11.99 they're trying to sell it for, and it does not deserve all the praise. Hard my arse, if the levels weren't so cluttered with shite and unpredictable obstacles then it'd be fine.

To me the game seems to rely less on skill and more on praying Meat Boy doesn't continue running for a few seconds after you release the left/right button as he is very prone to doing.

Well it seems that the little hazzards are what keep the game going in the later puzzles. (Ive only played the demo, didnt like it for this reason). But other people like that quick paced platform style where you just keep moving and trying. Personally I like the more puzzle solver platformers like Trine, ilomilo and Braid.

Well firstly, the game was £3.00, so it was really just peanuts to buy, so if I do get bored of it, I'm not that bothered. But I don't see what is wrong with how long the levels take, at most they are about 40 seconds, and when you die there is no loading screen - it's meant to be a twitch-reaction kind of platformer. If you get frustrated, try going back to some earlier maps and get A* on them and all the bandages, try some dark world maps or just try a different game a while and rethink your strategy.

Also, when you see Super Meat Boy look on in horror as he sees...

...the forest being burned to the ground and the squirrel crying as he looks at the piled up corpses of his friends, don't you just feel you would do anything to get Bandage Girl back and put a smile back on his face?

Super Meat Boy = Hard platformer

I Wanna Be the Guy = Torment and agony

Having played the ladder, I don't see Super Meat Boy as being that bad. Coincidentally, Super Meat Boy GREATLY resembles an old freeware game known as, "Jumper."

Dont you unlock that guy in the game? The one from Jumper?

OT: I am stuck at the very last boss fight. I am one of the players that still didnt finished Light World :(

Although I have the first chapter at 100%, I did the Light World and the Dark World in that one with all the bandages and warp zones :)

It's one of those practice makes perfect games. If you keep at it, you feel somewhat accomplished by the time you beat the game.

Also, it isn't that hard. Sure, there are some ridiculous levels (Cotton Alley, ugh) but for the most part it's very doable.

4.5% of all the people who bought this couldn't beat it.
You can't look at that as if everyone has played it long enough to finish it. I'm not even attempting to finish the light world first, I'm sticking to chapters until I've 100% them and done the glitch level.

It's going to be a long time until I've got that achi, and it's not because I can't beat it.

no, not really. i like the humor and artstyles, but the gameplay just irked me. the game is intended to be mind-cripplingly difficult, and i cant stand that. there also seems to be an issue with the wall jumping. it seemed like at least a third of the time i would try, meatboy wouldnt listen. maybe you just have to get used to playing, but i long ago purchased another XBLA title with similar gameplay and similar roots, N+. it was outstanding. its fun to play its and just difficult enough to piss me off frequently, but not make me want to just give up.

and honestly, my thumb felt like hell after playing the super meat boy demo for half an hour...

When I heard about it I wanted to get it because of the quirky aesthetics and seemingly smooth gameplay. Also because PETA hated it. But alas, it's not for me. It's for people who enjoy hard platformers. I'm not one of those people. I know people who are, and loved Super Meat Boy for it.

From what I've seen, Super Meat Boy isn't even "proper" bullshit. Okay, definitely some designing dick moves, but it's still fair, just murderously punishing, which makes it frustrating if you're not the hardcore platformer type that gets a boner when he thinks of I Wanna Be The Guy, instead of the mixed expression of disgust and rage the rest of us get.

Hell, it's not even the hardest type of game. Danmaku (bullet hell) games like Touhou got their names for a reason. You often have long periods of time during which you're not allowed even the slightest mistake. It's pixel-precise perfection of death.

Jinpaichi Mishima in Tekken 5, with the ability to stun lock you to death against your best efforts at any point he so decides, even if you're playing the perfect game, is bullshit.

Braid's "you have two keys, but only one works, and you have no way of knowing which except trial and error, and error sends you to the start of the level" mechanic is bullshit.

I Wanna Be The Guy is a constant cavalcade of bullshit.

Super Meat Boy is just murderously difficult and punishing.

Super Meat Boy is purposely designed to piss people off, that's the point. Its deliberately designed to be one of the most hardcore platformers ever made. Only people who enjoy extreme challenge in their games will truly get alot out of it. If you can barley do well at Mario for example Meat Boy is not the game for you.

I completely disagree. nothing about this game pisses me off. I'm not even an awesome super leet platformer, it's just that I enjoy the challenge and find the levels to be compelling and addicting.
