My choice if for Mario, because he just needs a mushroom to crush Link.

The Mario universe s not compatible with the Link universe, both employing entirely different physics and therefore neither is a clear winner.

Should one enter the others' universe, it may be a different matter.

I don't even need to explain how badass link is, and how pathetic mario is.

So I voted Link one because he would painfully, obviously win, and two, so you don't make more vs threads with people on the Internet convincing you that you're "Right" in a stupid, petty argument with your girlfriend.

Take my relationship advice and don't force yourself to be right. Especially when you're wrong. I could post a very objectified and factual post, but I really shouldn't need to.

He's an overweight, drugged up plumber, against a well versed sword wielding hero of time, even child link could stab the crap out of him. Hell I'd go as far as to say that Navi could probably handle him on her own if only by getting stuck in his windpipe then crawling out of his asphyxiated corpse.

Frankly, Mario is a pretty crap hero character all round.

True, true. There is considerably less gravity in Mario's world, whereas Link cannot jump around in his at all. But I'd still back Link's sword touche and shield against Mario's jump and fireflower attacks.
