I have no sense of humor one way or the other. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ussCHoQttyQ]

But no, really. I find George Carlin hilarious. I don't think I watch any other comedians, really.

Come on,

Red Dwarf, Monty Python, Fawlty Towers, Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead, Mr Bean, Johnny English, 'Allo 'Allo, This Is Not The Nine O Clock News, That Was The Week That Was, QI, The Full Monty, Four Weddings and a Funeral, Dad's Army, Blackadder, Only Fools and Horses, the original Whose Line Is It Anyway, Porridge, Father Ted, The Vicar of Dibley, The Inbetweeners, Ali G, Black Books, Shameless, Mock the Week, never Mind the Buzzcocks, Outnumbered, Spike Milligan, Benny Hill, Spaced, The Office, Extras

or

Frasier, Friends, Cheers, The Big Band Theory, How I Met Your Mother, assorted progams stolen from the British.

Not saying that the American shows aren't funny, or that I don't enjoy them, but for sheer quantity of classic and modern comedy, the British have exclipsed the Yanks for years.
You forgot Curb Your Enthusiasm. And Seinfeld.

Well, I like them both, though I have to admit that I love every kind of comedy that isn't toilet humour so, uh, moot point.

However, I have to admit that I prefer British comedy, if only because I'm a great fan of panel shows- Mock the Week, Would I lie to you, Never Mind the Buzzcock, Argumental, You Have Been Watching, Fast and Loose... I just love them. Also British comedians tend to really cross the line, and I'm a fan of dark comedy.

While American comedy... well, the Daily Show, Colbert, the Soup... I love those shows, of course. But I don't really know anything else...

I guess that the problem is that the only way to get to know how's the American humour, when you don't live in a English speaking country, is by watching sitcoms, and those tend to, well... keep going and going until they're not funny anymore.
That is also why I prefer British sitcoms: because they usually have an end, and this usually comes when the show is still funny. Usually.
...God I miss Blackadder.

...still, as for the humour in itself, I think they're both funny in their completely different ways...

The Brits easily. I'm American and I've went over to the UK and I have to say they are much much better at comedy.

Neither. America has some funny comedians, and so do the British. We Americans also notice that we have a whole load of lame comedy, and so do the British.
However, Monty Python has to be my favorite comedy group of all time, so I guess I have to vote British.

I don't believe there is such thing as the funniest country with the best sense of humor. Individual people on the other hand, that's something different.....

American Dad!, South Park, all the adult swim stuff, How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory, Scrubs, that 70's show, Arrested Development, Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Arrested Development and Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia are great but Scrubs and That 70's Show started out good but got really shit at the end. How I Met Your Mother and The Big Bang Theory are ok but not even close to Fawlty Towers, Blackaddar or Red Dwarf
That may be true but I don't really see the relevance of shows that ended 30 years ago. Red Dwarf is the only one close to modern and I'm just not a big fan of it lol.

It depends on what you prefer. British humor has quite a bit more wit in it whereas a lot more American humor is slapstick-oriented.

British humour would be better if they banned canned laughter (im looking at you otherwise amazing IT crowd!)

Everyone on the internet knows things like VS threads are totally subjective
But you see the person I was responding to, did not. This is the problem with a bulletin board. A reasonable person comes along and suddenly what was a point worth making to one person is now, suddenly superfluous.

Indeed. Not much to really add, other than, just who do you prefer?
I don't really prefer one or the other more as a whole. I loved Seinfeld as much as I do The IT Crowd. As a kid I laughed at Monty Python and I love Lucy and as an adult I've laughed just as hard at Jim Gaffigan as Jamie Carr (and as an asides gotten just as sick of both, Carr is as obsessed with dick sucking as Gaffigan is with sloth. They are best both taken in small increments). So to answer your question I see comics and shows as self contained entities representing the genius of their respective creators and not their countries of origin as a whole?

the large number of American hating Americans on this site
That is mostly because this site's Americans are mostly Atheist and Liberals, and in a place where last time I heard 40% of their Christians don't think evolution is real, I would find it difficult to not "hate" on american.
Sorry for this this post being so late in the thread, and I do not mean to necro. I Am an American and I fit, kinda I'm more moderate (which really is liberal where I live, California isn't all that liberal) and freelance with my religion, both. The issue is much more then that though. Not everything in life revolves around scientific theories and religion. When people are so ashamed of their country that they will just trash anything pertaining to that country, just cause it is from that country? There is an issue, and that is pretty rampant on this site.

It doesn't bother me when people outside the country do it though, I usually just write off their comments. Kind of like your dig at Americans over something that, in the grand scheme of things, means very little. Except I acknowledged it... look a distraction!!!!!

"anything pertaining to that country" I didn't state they hated everything, I was just stating a reason why they might do.

"dig at Americans over something that, in the grand scheme of things, means very little." Would hardly call it little, as it halts progress, and fills fox news viewing figures.
Anything that improves fox news viewing figures, tends to be a bad thing.
