I'm gonna come right out and say that I really enjoy stand-up comedian and ventriloquist Jeff Dunham. ...Wait! Before you click the "back" button, let me say this:

As of late, I've been noticing that some people really don't like his stand-up comedy. While I admit that not all of his material is... excellent, to say the least, I do enjoy this comedy styling on some level.

But then, I tend to like stuff other people don't, so... yeah.

So, fellow Escapists, tell me if you like Jeff Dunham and what you like about him (I don't wanna feel like I'm in the minority here), and if not, why you don't like him. But please try to be civil about it, okay?

I understand that some people just don't like him, and I respect that, so please respect that I can have an opinion as well.

Wish me luck.

I honestly find him unfunny all his jokes feel so forced. He strikes me as the type who just trys to hard.

My girlfriend finds him hysterical but me I will let out a smile on occasion at best for his comedy.

Protip for life: Not everyone's going to like what you like, some will even hate it. That alone doesn't qualify for a whole thread about it.

Jeff Dunham is okay, he doesn't do anything special at all.

Given that I had to look up who the hell you were on about on Youtube I can honestly say I have no opinion of him either way. That having been said you mentioned that he was a ventriloquist, a form of comedy which essentially involves telling yourself jokes in front of a group of people not involved in the joke you're having with yourself. Which is never really that funny for the audience.

Because people won't always agree with you, and because he is vastly overrated and unfunny.

He ran out of jokes after his first special, so now he's delivering the same ones with forced, bland set ups and weak jokes we all already know. When he got his TV show, he crossed over from being just an unfunny comedian into being annoyingly persistent.

because he is not a comedian... he is a act.

if you've seen one of his shows you've seen them all.

He is funny... Once.
his acts lack dynamic nature.
his jokes are often bland and repetative.

He shoe horns in the same jokes into diffrent contexts with diffrent characitures and forces the same punch line. because his jokes lack variety or anything dynamic there is nothing to look forward to and there is little left to laugh about 5 minutes into his routine.

I used to love Jeff Dunham. Everybody I spoke to either didn't know who he was or loved him. Then I came to the Escapist. I wonder if perhaps MovieBob's influence is showing as he denounced Jeff Dunham in one of his shows (I love MovieBob, btw. Watch his shows ALL THE TIME!!!). Then again, the primary time when I was into Jeff Dunham was before he got his TV show, which I am to understand was the awful. So it may be that some of the people who hate him were first exposed to the Jeff Dunham show rather than his old stand-up gigs.

That being said. I tried to watch my favorite Jeff Dunham performance the other day, and I didn't laugh once. I guess I'm a different person than I was five years ago. Or maybe I was in the wrong mood. Or maybe I too was changed by the magic words of MovieBob. Who knows?

...

I have no clue who Jeff Dunham is.

...

And one quick trip to Googleland later:

Oh that guy. I like him. I mean, I haven't seen that much of him, but he's ok I guess.

He's a one trick pony.

The trick itself is impressive, but after the umpteenth time it looses its focus and becomes mediocre.

i love him but yeah he can get repetitive. What really made him unfunny in my opinion was when he got his tv show

I think for the same reasons people didn't like early Dane Cook. Overwhelmingly popular but undeserving of his fame. His video of Achmed the Dead Terrorist has over one hundred million views, and based on that number it's hard to see why. He's a great ventriloquist, and an alright comedian, but the humor just seems 'safe for everyone', like the kind you'd see in an Adam Sandler movie. If you want to see 'safe for everyone' done well though, look up Brian Regan.

Personally I hate his audience more than I do him. There's raucous laughter after almost every punchline, as if they just laugh whenever they notice the joke is over. The incessant catchphrases repeated by his fans don't help either. In high school I churned inside whenever I heard someone say "Silence! I KEEL you!".

His jokes are cheesy and not that great. It almost seems like there should be a "ba-dum tish" at the end of every punch line
and as someone else mentioned, the catchphrases are really annoying especially when constantly regurgitated by his fans
he is a good ventriloquist though

His first special that aired on Comedy Central was hilarious...the first time. But repeating the acts he does over and over tends to make it really...well, repetitive.

Why do you think his own show he got on Comedy Central didn't last one season?

catch phrase comedy act that doesn't differ at all. It might be okay but he just releases a tidal wave of the same catch phrase with no humour or punchline.
I don't see anything funny about him sept for maybe a silly voice.

When your central joke is "Look, I'm being RACIST! Aren't I funny and edgy? Hur hur hur..." You don't win much favor with me. Racism can be hilarious, if we're laughing at the racist person, not with them.

He simply hasn't made me laugh. Or even made me think about something. Ever. Reason enough to not like him as a comedian, no?
