a lot of people are saying that they hate the 'halo' games, probably just to seem cool, but I ask you escapists, do you like the halo franchise or is it just another mediocre game series.
Comment for more information.

I think it's a pointless franchise and that there wasn't any reason to bring in all the unnecessary stuff that it did, like regenerating health, horrible dialogue, shotguns that are less accurate than spinning a catapult round and loosing it at a random time, not being able to see half the screen because your massive gun is in the way, and free demos that are just asking for some whiny 9-year-olds to come online and call everyone a ****** to compensate for the fact that they have incredibly small penises.

So I have no compassion for it whatsoever, I just steer clear of the whole thing.

Hey, I personally really enjoy the Halo games.
They're a nice break from the endless, dreary, drab modern day "realistic" FPS's that get churned out almost weekly.
And for the people that will inevitably hate on Halo Reach- I question their sanity.

I don't hate the Halo series but I also don't love it either. The multiplayer is fun and the game play is good. The main reason as to why I find it average is because of the story. All the story boils down to is humans vs. aliens vs. another enemy that cause the humans and some of the aliens to unite and fight against. You never learn all that much about the characters in the game which is bad because revealing stuff about a character is usually good for character development.

I don't really hate it. I find it average mostly. I just get really annoyed when there are so many people just bowing down to it like its perfect.

Honestly I don't mind the Halo franchise. I think Halo 3 was pretty good actually. But that's mostly because you can do so many things in it, and people keep coming up with new ideas for new game-modes all the time. Like Griff-ball. So I don't hate it.
I think people do hate it because they don't understand why a pretty run-of-the-mill FPS is so popular. And some people hate it just to get in the faces of those who love it. I guess Halo is turning into one of those love it or hate it things. Like Marmite.

EDIT: I think it's a pretty mediocre series of games though. But I don't hate it. A more appropriate poll might be "What do you think of the Halo-franchise?"

I don't really hate it; I just hate all the 'lol guyz wai all da h8 on h4l0' threads. This is NOT original, and you should have considered that perhaps the same thread has been running around for years now, since Halo is frickin' old.

I think a lot of the animosity towards the series came when the sequels were so over-hyped (in particular Halo 3) - people felt that it should have been so much better than it was, so their disappointment turned to anger (which turned to hate, which turned to the dark side of the force). This wasn't helped by the ridiculous cost of ODST, which charged a near full-game price for about 1/2 a game and firefight.

Agreed. Halo is probably the most entertaining multiplayer FPS I've played, and it has really good console controls. Single-player feels a bit pointless, but it never feels like it's in the way and it's nicely varied.

I don't hate it. The story is generic, the FPS gameplay has been just about the same since I don't know when, probably late 90s when you could actually aim at stuff unlike you did (or rather, couldn't) in Doom...

Don't appreciate all the biblical references, otherwise it's just as good as anything.

Also I don't like the plot, but that kind of qualifies as my own damn problem. Not a big fan of having generic bad guys with no redeeming qualities, aka Flood and similar things. It enforces idiotic good vs evil views and makes the job way too easy for the writers and what not. They don't need to manipulate you to have actual emotions towards the game and the characters, they just paint one group black and stick some spikes/tentacles on it and say "HERE ARE THE BAD GUYS" and that's it.

Halo 1 was great and brought a big boost to the popularity of FPS's and even more so the Xbox.

Halo 2 extended the battle options dramatically and was possibly one of the biggest breakthroughs for Xbox Live.

Halo 3 did nothing

ODST did nothing

Halo Wars...

It's the fanbase that proclaim it as the best game of all time and claim that it invented console FPS. Don't be so daft. Aside from introducing regenerating shields (which is a bit dumbed down compared to Perfect Dark's have-to-find-armour-pickups-yourself-and-we'll-screw-your-vision-if-you-get-hit system), it's just incredibly average and does nothing that GoldenEye or Unreal Tournament didn't do.

It's the George W. Bush of video games.

Lots of people voted it number 1, multiple times, which seems to be it's biggest achievement.

It didn't look particularly good, didn't really have good combat, and in retrospect was big waste of money for a lot of people on several occasions. Dialogue wasn't exactly brilliant, either. The same applies to the Halo games.

It's the attitude. It is always, and probably always will be, the attitude. There is so much hate towards Twilight because there are people calling it a touching meeting of soulmates and an inspiration for lovers everywhere instead of a bland teenage romance with vague supernatural elements. There is so much hate towards Avatar because there are people calling it a classic of film with a legendary story instead of a string of impressive visual effects with a thin coating of plot. And there is so much hate towards Halo because there are people calling it revolutionary instead of an average shooter that introduced minor new elements. When faced with blatant falsity, neutrality is difficult to maintain and the tendency for an equal and opposite reaction, frothing rage to meet blind admiration, is extremely tempting.
