Fox News is officially an "entertainment" channel rather than a news channel - which means they can get away with a lot of bullshit.

Last Fox News clip I saw was of Obama's speech at a GOP event and every time it seemed as if he was going to say something that Fox disagreed with, he was muted and a presenter spoke over the top of him.

That said, if Fox News viewers are so ignorant and naive that they believe everything they are told then there is nothing to be done about it. In the days of 24 hours "news" coverage there is a lot more space for talking heads and opinion spewing. A reasonable adult should have enough wisdom to at least check a second source for information on anything other than basic fact (anyone can report on an earthquake, but huge pinches of salt should be taken with anything related to politics or public opinion).

Because hate is my reason for living.

Seriously though, Fox news and its british equivalent Sky news are owned by Rupert Murdoch and he (as we all know) is pure evil. As a rule i do not endorse or support evil, therefore i cannot in good conscience do anything but hate Fox news.

I've been a member for a while, but inactive for a little while too. And I've recently noticed that you guys bash Fox News a lot.

I mean, I realize that they're not exactly perfect, but their news packages and stories are a lot better done, more well written, and intelligent than CNN and MSNBC. And the opinion shows actually have multiple opinions on: Fox's opinion hosts actually allow the other party member to finish a sentence. CNN and MSNBC and others allow rampant opinion to perforate their news program whereas Fox's unbiased news segments are really unbiased.

So, I ask, why do you guys always bash Fox news. It's usually been CNN and Liberals like Jack Tonphson who ban video games, so I really, really don't understand why you guys hate the 'right wing news.' Conservatives are always for free speech and freedom, so again, why the hate for them?
We generally hate Fox News as it tends to be the news station to over blow things, and to confuse opinion with news. Take Glen Beck and Bill O'Reilly for example. They get to spread their stupidity to the masses, and if there is one thing that all true Escapists should hate, it should be stupidity and the spreading of it.

That, and Fox seems to have an agenda against gays, atheists, gamers, and liberals.

Edit:
Where the fuck are BBC and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart?
I easily consider The Daily Show the best news network which says something about news networks when a show from Comedy Central can do their job better.

Well see, here's my beef with Fox news.

When I was a kid growing up in a small town, everything was fine. But then an evil sorceress prophesied that a male heir from my town would one day rise up and destroy Fox news. To prevent this they sent their minions to kill every male child in town. I escaped with the help of my babysitter and a kindly old man who promised to one day explain my destiny.

So yeah, that's why I hate Fox news. The funny thing is if they hadn't gone out of their way to try to kill me I never would have had a problem with them in the first place.

I haven't seen much American television (thank fuck for that) but enough to form an at least somewhat educated opinion on the matter.
Fox News is, for lack of a better phrase, awful to the point of being embarrasing. They established themselves as such during the Bush-administration and haven't changed their imgage since. You mentioned that their news is well-written. Perhaps it is better-written than that of some other news-channels but it doesn't change the underlying problem:
News should be reported, not written. Truly professional and respectable journalism is, at it's most simple, making a list of facts, then showing the public that list. The basic philosphy behind journalism is information, bringing important and significant events and developments to the attention of the public. Does this sound like Fox News to you?
The primary function of the news is to inform and not to entertain, and in that regard Fox News fails in every sense of the word.

As an Englishman, I am not familiar with your yanky news channels. However, I have caught fox news every now and then and compared to British news coverage, Fox news is really bad, apocalyptically so.
This.

For far more unbiased American politics, I like to read newfeeds from BBC.
Because BBC has absolutely no record of manipulating the truth or being government tools.
omgsh, screw how bad Fox News is, BBC is THE worst news organization I've EVER seen.

As you said, they twist the truth and often flat out lie.

Which wouldn't be so bad if the British government didn't give them a virtual monopoly over British media.
That's no coincidence. Look who funds them.

Most other networks have some ideological bias, but the BBC is just constantly, universally pro-state.

I'm not voting in the poll because all of those are US channels. Thing is, though they get shown around the world too, so do others, like BBC News, Sky News, and Al-Jazeerah. All of those get shown in the USA. For the record, I have seen most of those news channels (either here in the UK, or on holiday in the US) and I still reckon that the best is BBC News, by far :).

American journalism is a joke. The punchline being its making more money than ever by actively and knowingly misleading it's viewers. FOX murdered journalism and revealed to everyone else the amount of money to be made from pissing on the corpse.

I'm also half tempted to report this as trolling, since I refuse to believe anyone could honestly believe the initial post.

Also, FOX news (and by extension, every 24 hour "news" channel) gets away with so much shit because the FCC doesn't regulate "cable" television. Not mentioning repeal of the fairness doctrine.
Yup, because any opinion that isn't yours is either stupid or trolling.

Fox spins the News more than any other, period. I use to work as a video editor for them about 15 years ago, ran one of the cams during the show and such as well. They got bought out locally by Sinclair Broadcasting. When that happened, not only was i let go, but several other people were as well. I would try to use clips that didn't slant the news, but they wanted to use clips that focused more on what ever side of the story there was. And when it comes down to those matters, it is a part of opinion.

Granted it is their company and they can choose to do what they want. But being a media outlet but not allowing multiple viewpoints seems to lead to bias. In fact, years later I ran into some of the people I worked with, even the lady that let me go. She herself was let go, even after working there for over 10 years. I saw some of the TV personalities in random locations over the years and chatted them up, and seems they had the same story. They came in and sweeped out all the open minded people and put strictly yuppies up there that are only concerned about the uppity up.

And, the footage that the local fox channel used for stories all came from CNN feeds anyways. We had rig room that had all the feeds going in, and we would grab them and then re-edit the footage. That being said, Fox was getting their news from CNN, as far as the world news was concerned. Granted there were computers from the Assc. Press feeds and such, but if you look at the news channels today, Fox has gone pro right wing and CNN is more liberal.

The irony I STILL don't get, is that the station and it's news all try to come from the uppity up moral right type of backings, yet ALL their smash shows were things like Married with Children and The Simpsons and the like. And those shows pretty much featured the OPPOSITE of the types of views the channel normally had. So I still don't understand how if their views are so right wing, why the heck they air so many liberal comedy shows? It blows my mind.

But if you want facts, watch CNN. If you want opinions, watch Fox. Granted, anchors on both sides will take jabs. And there are always pundants. But CNN at least will let both sides speak. Fox news usually just has Mr. Colbert's alternate persona preaching to people in a Limbaugh way. I don't think that is so much news as brain washing, but thats me.

I'm sick of these threads. Not only are they ridiculously one-sided, but they are also patently hateful. Half the people who post don't even try to offer a legitimate reason for their contempt. And those that do are generally lost beneath the tidal wave of hate speech.

I would humbly suggest to the mods that they exterminate these threads with extreme prejudice when they venture outside of the "Religion and Politics" forum.
I wasn't sure if this should go in Politics or Off-Topic because it's not politics persay so much as mass information outlet criticism.

As little as I like Fox, I would still pick Fox above all the others you have on the poll there. I refuse to watch MSNBC anymore because of Maddow and Olbermann.

I don't know if your just getting at videogames or what here, but politics is where fox falls short. I'll admit i don't like their view on social aspects, but they don't blatantly lie about about anything except politics.(actually i'm not sure maybe they lie about social problems too)

ex. 1: Every anchor(on fox news) they has been talking about the health care bill calls it the unpopular health care bill. I haven't seen any numbers, except for their network polls, concerning this.
Most recently during the health care summit a Republican congressmen said that the American people don't want this bill and i quote after he said that "Reid cited a recent Kaiser Family Foundation poll that showed 58 percent of the American people would be "disappointed" if Congress did not pass health care reform this year."(direct quote from a story covering the summit)

ex. 2: Glenn Beck....nough said right? He uses his emotions and personal thought every time he talks about the president. http://mediamatters.org/research/200909300033
I don't first hand watch glenn beck after i watched the first time and hated his ranting, but i've seen many facts that Jon Stuart a parodist(and he actually has proof that what glenn beck is saying are lies) reveals as utter lies.

ex. 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dN823dUu6KA&feature=related
Besides the beginning of the video in the middle the blond chick that i hate continues to interrupt Bill Burton. They are always cutting off people all news networks do it.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x7754061
Now thats hilarious a guy who regularly ambushes people for interviews shies away when someone asks him a question.

All news networks have skeleton's in their closet but Fox news has a meetlockers worth of dead bodies. If it is just about videogames i'll delete everything in my post.

Edit: and it only takes a few minutes for me to proove myself wrong fox does bash games without all the facts.

http://www.ranker.com/list/top-10-fox-news-fails-of-2009/phact0rri
#4 on this list is bad quality but is an exact feed, I just don't see how the presented all the facts. They neglected to mention the little pop up where you could skip the mission and he continously repeated that an 8 year old could get the game and that was their talking point.

First off, BET has news?

Secondly it just depends on what you believe in which one you bash more.
For instance Conservatives tend to move towards bashing supporting Fox
I support Fox because even though they are biased just like everyone else they are more conservatively biased.
While I dont believe everything they say It is more entertaining to say the least.
Watching shows like Glenn Beck and such lead into the Extreme Conservatism

Pfft. If by allowing people to finish sentences, you mean screaming over them.

Stop trying to associate liberal views with censorship. Most advocates of video game censorship are conservatives. Fact.

Have you seen CNN's attempts to be cool and hip? They're just sad. I mean they checked, what was it... twitter maybe, on set
