Bought it because I liked CoD, and I liked the setting the choose.

Plus, Zombies. :D

The Campaign was surprisingly good, the multiplayer was stellar yet I bought BlOps for one reason...zombies. I knew it would keep me occupied, and it did. The zombie mode was back and better than before

Someone else bought it for me, because I wouldn't.

Liked Zombies though...plus I kinda liked the Black Ops story.

Bought it for the SP, stayed for the MP. It is my big gaming sin that I actually honestly like playing CoD games.

Friend of mine kept "nagging" on me to get it so we could play Zombies together...so I bought it when I saw it was on sale for 75% off in local gamestop. ^^

Mainly for the zombie mode. But the overarching reason was because I wanted a new multi-player FPS to play and unfortunately no good, new multi-player FPS had been released recently when I purchased it. So I had to settle for what was out at the time.

I bought it because it came free with my preowned 360. I would never have willingly parted with actual money for it.

I hadn't played a CoD game since CoD4 and a guy at my work wanted someone to play with online. It was fun but the frustration eventually got the better of me as it did in CoD4. I'm rubbish at the Zombie mode so I didn't play much of it. I got into the singleplayer, and if you forgive some of the shit the CoD series does in singleplayer (e.g. infinitely respawning grenade-happy enemies) then it was quite fun.

I bought Black Ops because of the hype. Lesson learned.
The split-screen multiplayer is cool, though. Games just don't do local co-op anymore.

I didn't buy it, it was a Christmas present. But looking back if I were to have bought it, it would have been for single player and zombies.
Which is funny because I found the singleplayer to be a poor effort compared to the games that came before it. Zombies, while a lot of fun, wasn't as good as I'd hoped it would be. And the multiplayer which I'd thought was going to be complete crap, turned out to be shockingly good.

I didn't. I played it as a rental at my friend's, found the co-op missions and zombie mode entertaining, but hardly worth 60 bucks (and paying 60 dollars for the "privilege" of multiplayer is like paying 60 dollars for a bleach enema).

So I've been told that Black Ops is one of the top selling games in history. But why did you, Escapists, buy Black Ops? Single Player? Multiplayer? Zombies? Achievements? Or maybe just a fanboy (No offense if so)?

I bought it for zombies mostly. Same reason I got the DLC's.
I didn't, so selected "other" as there was no option covering it.
I may buy it when its cheap/on sale, as a generic run and gun console game.

Because it didn't have so much noob tubing, commando'ing and vehicles owning me in the face like in MW2.

Other. I bought an XBOX 360 and Black Ops came with it (along with Alan Wake). I've never even opened the game but I technically do have it.

I was told the single player was awesome, and it was coming from a friend who generally dislikes the series.

When I buy it, because I enjoy the multiplayer, and it's a part of gaming history, whether or not you like the series. Call me a collector

Don't see why I should buy Black Ops, I already have CoD4...

Had the chance to play Modern Warfare 3 last weekend on steam, multiplayer. Extremely disappointed. How can a game like that be so successful? It's just not fair in any way. I could barely tell the difference between it and CoD4, and quite frankly I barely played CoD4 either.

Battlefield 3 is much better on all fronts. CoD is like Counter-Strike if made by Hollywood.
It's popular because everyone keeps buying it. Nobody seems to really understand that new games should have more qualities to them then OMFG GUYZ NEW COD IS OUT GO BUY NAO. Don't worry though, it may take the masses a while to learn, but once they discover that they're getting fed recycled garbage, they'll start refusing it.
