Poll: why do creepers exploded?

I feel bad for Creepers. Everytime they try to get close to someone they either run away or end up dead from their explosion. I shed a tear for these green penis things :,(

Or perhaps they don't explode at all because they are not real. In reality you are damaging your own structures and you invent the creeper as a means of coping with your increasing loss of sanity due to being the only human being in the entire world. (in single player that is)

They're like bees. Somewhere in the world there is a Creeper hive, with a queen Creeper Queen. The creepers are the drones trying to rid the world of the ecological disaster that is the player (this feels especially true for me since I use the Steampunk texture mod and my worlds up looking like a Welsh coal mine), and just like bees they die as they attack.

They're actually extremely friendly pets who only want to help you mine, but they don't know explosions can kill you because they're also extremely stupid.

They're like the Ai director from Left 4 Dead. They're brained are programmed to respond to all stimuli with the same response. I'll give an example.

AI Director Left 4 Dead:
Team has nearly reached the safe house - Spawn a Tank.
Team has just left the safe house - Spawn a Tank.
Team has no health kits spare and is struggling to complete the level - Spawn a Tank.

Creeper Minecraft.
Player has built a lovely sculpture out of glass and cobblestone. - Head a 'Splode
Player has just entered a large underground cave network. - Head a 'Splode
Player has just died and respawned. - Head a 'Splode.


My theory, the AI director and creepers are one and the same... Or brothers, or something.
