Certain malware can access email accounts and send stuff in your name, so I imagine it's not that large a leap to go from there to making spamming forums using someone's account. That's the only reason I can see to keep Captchas for long-time members, anyway.
Never heard of that one. Dunno how that'd work. Probably never see one in all my life. Wouldn't that need to get by me lofty firewall first? 'Tis an impressive conflagration around the old compy-tor!

Things like this are best sent via message to the community manager I believe. Don't expect some uprising to occur because the mods get tired of seeing this bullshit i'm sure. There are numerous instances where people have tried to protest things and have actually got massive support and yet not a damn thing gets done. I think once or twice something got fixed, like the blob adds that jumped out and automatically started playing.
Dunno, man. The track record for responses I've noticed is that I get more out of a public address. I damn well killed Meebo here and sources say I changed
rules, though I don't remember which ones. Long as they don't stupidly outlaw talking about it like certain programs that do things to the ads, I gots no reason not to complain.

Well the way it's currently implemented, it isn't very effective anyway considering that they only pop up randomly. I've said it before and I'll say it again, they need to implement the captchas into the user account creation. Presumably then if the bots can't even create user accounts then they're not going to be spamming us, are they? And that way any real live flesh and blood users will only have to deal with the captchas once and then never have to see them again. ...well at least not on this site anyway.
I like that line of thinking. Frankly, if they DID do that at the start of it, they could have 'em show up LESS in the forums. Speaking of which, you said randomly, right? I thought this stuff was set to every twenty posts. Now, is that every one of MY posts, or every twenty posts on the Escapist? That part got me confused.
BTW: As a test, I've been getting them wrong on purpose, and they don't notice half the time.
