Right and wrong are meaningless. They change context with time and with different societies. But to answer the question . .. i do whats right so i don't go to jail :3

I was thinking about this today. What reward do you expect for your acts of kindness or sacrifice? I used to think I was purely altruistic, but today I was thinking it migth be more an ego thing. Not as bad as it sounds, I just like the idea that I am the kind of person who doesn't do bad things, who knows what is right and does it. It gives me a sense of certainty and identity (rare enough commodities). Outside of that I expect no reward. Not sure if that makes me selfish or not, but 'tis the truth.

How about you escapists? Why do you do what's right? spiritual reward? a belief that doing good tends to pay itself back? Or are you a true Altruist?
How about, from a philosophical point of view, I think it benefits me (and not in any literal karmic sort of way).

The real world functions somewhat like Bioshock. If you don't kill the little sisters, you might lose out on short term gains, but in the long run you'll get supply packs with way more Adam in them.
Hence the central paradox of the game. By acts of self-sacrifice you are the most rewarded in a city that worships the self.

Real World Reward, mostly.

I like having others be thankful towards me. It sounds a little off typing it out like that, but I always find I do more/better work and/or will go the extra mile if I know someone will be thankful for me doing it. I don't even really need a tangible reward most of the time; as long as someone thanks/praises me, I usually find that to be enough. Conversely, if I do said work and not even a passing glance is made, my personal morale tends to drop pretty quickly.

I do the right thing because the voices in my head tell me to do the wrong thing and only crazy people listen to the voices in their head.

I do good things because doing good makes me feel good. Doing bad makes me feel guilty. It's a very simple, immediate gratification scheme.

EDIT: This is why I find it very difficult to pick evil options in game, even when it makes said game incredibly easier.

I do what's right mainly because I think it's in my nature, along with "Being raised right". The spiritual reward option also factors into my reasoning, as my beliefs dictate that I be kind and charitable and etc, but it's not the only reason I try to do what's right.

Because I feel really bad if I don't. My parents can be proud that they raised me well in that regard.
So... altruism. I like the feeling of helping people and doing the right thing. Doing the wrong thing just feels... well, wrong.

I do what is right for a very simple, yet frustrating reason.

I seem to be the only person I know who can't get away with a single G*dd*mn thing. So I stopped trying.

It's a combination of all those things above, I am good because I just am, but I also am good so I see myself in a nice light, or because I think I will go to heaven, tons of reasons really, all depending on what I think about at that time.
