I don't hate them, Hating someone because of what they like is silly. However, I do hate the show, and the fans only make me hate it more when they bring it into everything. There are only two things on this earth that are so bad that I literally feel pain when I think about them: the Doom Novels (Newbies Soobies...) and My Little Pony. So, just think about this: every time someone mentions the show, you get a painful burning sensation in your head. No, this isn't a metaphor. The show literally causes me pain. It even hurts to explain why I hate it so much, so I'll leave what I've written and go do something that doesn't instill headaches.

New option: What the fuck is a bronie.
People who like...

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic

The person who made it said

"When I took the job, I braced myself for criticism, expecting many people ? without even watching the show ? to instantly label it girly, stupid, cheap, for babies or an evil corporate commercial. I encourage skeptics like this to watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic with an open mind. If I'm doing my job right, I think you?ll be surprised."

Option 6:
I'll stop being a dick about it when the pony cultists stop flaunting their love in places where it doesn't belong. Seriously, THEY'RE the reason they're patronized so much, it's not really the people who are annoyed by the bronies that are causing problems. Why is it that they can act this way on the internet but we can't act like dicks?
Because being a dick is being a dick. At least on the Escapist, that's very much against the rules, and one can expect to be moderated for such behavior.

What harm are bronies causing in "Flaunting their love"? Where are they causing problems? They have a large presence, I'll give you that, but the worst they are doing is going, "Hey, I like this show. I am going to have my pony avatar and would like to discuss ponies if given the chance."

This is my problem with brony haters- there really isn't a good reason for them to hate, except that they chose to dislike the show. Usually for the "men shouldn't watch little girl shows" or "Its too mainstream" reasons.

Give me a good reason to hate My Little Pony, and a good example of bronies actually being harmful.
I never said I hated MLP, I never said that the Bronies were causing any harm. I just find the entire MLP fanbase to be the most annoying things in the world, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person that thinks that way. Are you seriously saying that there is nothing to hate with this fanbase? They are absolutely perfect? ........Okay
No, that is not what I am saying.
I am saying that I have yet to encounter anyone who actively hates My Little Pony for anything passing a legitimate reason.
I mean, Don't like sports? You had a bad childhood experience relating to football? Fine.
Don't like Dr. Phil because he promotes certain ideas you simply cannot agree with? OK.
Have a problem with the TF2 fanbase because you were continually banned for being a F2P player? Sure, I can see why you're mad.
But what have bronies done other than exist? I mean, really. I know they did cause some real bother on 4Chan or something, but in being relegated to ponychan, they seem to be in check.

If bronies DDoS'd your website, or something, than fine, there's plenty of reason to dislike bronies.Otherwise, I see as much incentive to hate on Dr. Who fans, Star Wars fans, or Pokemon players.

It just feels like people hating on bronies are actively looking for something to be mad about.
So I can't dislike a fanbase unless they have caused some harm to me? I can't find somebody annoying unless they stab me with a knife?
Well, sure, dislike people, things, whatever.
But you know the proper way to handle annoying things?
Avoid them if possible, and find a way to politely and respectfully make them be as intrusive as possible if you must be in their presence.

Bronies are all about being nice 'n what not, so if you don't like them, I bet they'd be extra responsive to, 'Hey guys, I know you're having fun, but could you take this pony talk elsewhere? I'm worried that this is distracting from the point of the matter. Thanks!"

I haven't seen a single person complaining about the brony epidemic ever try just asking nicely.
And I DO avoid Bronies, I avoid everybody I can't stand, BUT the topic is about why I struggle with tolerating Bronies so it seems perfectly relevant to be vocal about it in this thread.

Okay great, I struggle tolerating the people that label themselves as "Bronies", but I have no problems with the fans.
Can I ask why you hate "the people that label themselves as "Bronies""? Other than them "not being normal about their interest". Or at least explain what that is supposed to mean, exactly?

People label themselves over all kinds of things they are interested in, you get self proclaimed "gamers", "sports fans", various team supporters, "movie buffs", "Whovians"... so what's so bad about "bronies"?

Or do you hate everyone who labels themselves, and by extension pretty much everyone who has an interest?

I guess because I am an old grumpy man and don't understand why people over the age of eight year old girl would want to watch ponies?

Come to Dartmoore in Devon, UK. Run around with some real Shetland ponies. Live the dream.

However, whatever floats your boat I suppose.

I do agree with what someone said earlier in the thread; creepy art...is creepy.

Oh, one last thing. Why is it called Bronie?

Darn these young hip people and their amalgamation of words.

This, with an addendum... so mostly ninja'd I guess?...

OT: Spam is spam, whatever it is about. Do I despise people for liking something that gave me a wtf face for the one episode I managed to watch? No.

What I do dislike is the argument about a superfluous issue at best. Leave it be, and keep your opinions, whatever side you may be on, Silent opinions.
Isn't the entire purpose of forums to give your opinion on things?
Once or twice sure, but thread after thread after thread? Moderation in all things. I'll admit I phrased that poorly.

My intent on that post was this: Whatever sect of the internet/strange fandom/obssession you belong to, you don't have to champion like you are the only black guy at a white supremacy club meeting.

I'll agree that I do let out a sigh whenever I see yet another MLP thread.

People who hate bronies are a rarity, so this thread seems incredibly unnecessary.
Not entirely. It allows everyone to chime in and say that the thread is unnecessary. By extent many ridiculous threads are the most active, simply because everyone wants to say they're ridiculous.

Not everybody that has interests labels themselves as something.

I guess I hate labels more than I hate the people who label themselves, but the people who label themselves aren't exactly innocent. Why do people even need labels? So that everybody automatically knows what they like?

When I say "normal" I mean just an average interest in the series, not an "Oh I'm going to go make more Pony captions and use it as an avatar on every site I go on" kind of thing.

Google Translator completely failed me, something about,"We put by Email, but the gate just in the image. Heading here to here to here or moving bullet". People have said far worse than what you probably just typed in this thread so far, so you're not going to get banhammer'd for having a differing opinion.

Alright. I want this to be calm and mature discussion between fans and non-fans. And yes, bronies, you need to be just as calm and mature as non-bronies.

I'm just wondering, I've been seeing a lot of hate directed towards us and I felt like I should figure out why people hate us. I created this thread to have an intelligent discussion with those who have qualms against bronies and try to let them understand how I feel.

For each poll answer, I've prepared a rebuttal. Please suggest other reasons if you feel I've missed why you hate bronies.

Option 1:
I'm not. I'm not ironic in this at all. I've also yet to meet a brony who is ironic in their liking of the show.
I really do like this show, and to clarify myself to a certain Escapist with an avatar of Kim-Jong Il (you know who you are), whether or not I've tricked myself into liking it makes no difference. I like it now, and that's what matters. I came into the community with no doubt I would like the show and I was right in my assumption. I saw that people liked it and decided that if people liked it, it's probably worth a shot. It was, in my opinion.

Option 2:
No shit.
Of course some of us are creepy, and of course there's porn. Creepiness? That's all over the internet, and you need only look so far as Google to find that. Of course some fans would be creepy in their love, because they have the gift of anonymity and every fanbase has creeps in it.
Seriously. There's not one fanbase that is exempt from creepiness. This is no exception.
Also, ever heard of rule 34 of the internet? I'm not going to explain it if you haven't, you have Google for that. But seriously, there will be porn where there is demand. And there is obviously demand in a community that started on the internet.
It took me a while to get over the rule 34 and shipping, but I learned to deal with it because there's no escaping it in any community.
I can't say I blame you if you chose this option

Option 3:
While you can judge whether or not I'm unmanly, there's no denying that one of my best friends who I've converted is manlier than hell.
He does manual labor everyday, he's as redneck as an avid gamer who lives in city limits can be, I've shot guns and rode ATVs with him on multiple occasions (God bless the Deep South), and he's shot me more times than I care to count with a paintball gun (the bastard).
The subject matter of a something someone likes does NOT determine someone's sexual orientation or whether or not they're manly.

Option 4:
I can sympathize with you if you picked this. Even I, a brony, cringe a little when I see pony related pictures in threads when it's not called for.
I've definitely seen that we toss our stuff everywhere whether or not it's called for. And a lot of you guys get caught in the crossfire or are deliberately aimed at by our own.

But, in our defense, it's exciting to know that there's something that shouldn't be tolerable and is excellent (in our opinions).

Option 5:
Thank you so much for being tolerant to us/liking us/being one of us.

Final Note
Bronies are as diverse as the internet.
Not all are male.
Not all are adults. (I'm an example of this)
Not all are unemployed.
Not all are caucasian.
All of these things I've just listed are true for every fanbase.
Brony for life, and if they want my man card they can pry it from my cold dead hands.

And I love the show on its own merits, but it is pretty fun to lampoon and meme the hell out of it too; I do the same with Thomas the Tank Engine and Thunderbirds.

Oh look, another MLP thread. Geez. We have a user group, ponychan, Equestria Daily,...do you really need to make another thread here? I'm starting to see why some people are getting annoyed. People are going to find it weird that guys watch a show intended for little girls. Is it a double standard? Yes, but that doesn't make it any less true. And another question: does it really matter what other people think?

yeah, Lorem Ipsum is basically randomly-generated latin. I'm surprised your translated version makes as much sense as it does.

Oh look! I have a pony avatar! That must mean I have an opinion on this topic!

Alright.
First off, no it's not an ironic avatar. I do like the show. I'm in that there Escapist user group and I've even read a few fanfics provided they involve Vinyl Scratch. Ho ho what a colossal pervert I must be.

Anyway.
Yeah, so much hate in this thread! Hatred that boils down to "stop liking things I don't like!"
Clearly it just does not behoove these people to just not read about things that'll get them all hot and bothered.

No it's not, at all really. On Ponychan any even midly sexual image (i.e a kiss) has to put in spoiler tags or it will be removed.

People who are into MLP for sexual reasons are a vanishingly small minority.
Making it so one extra click is neccessary before viewing pornographic images of ponies stops it from being another branch of furry? Hmm.

I'm sure not all furries are in it for the sexually explicit images either (probably a great minority), but I guess bronies dont like being labeled alongside a less acceptable group..

I'm sure there will be a great outcry of denial, but hey, at least you can feel persecuted together.

If you've read Vinyl fanfics, I assume you've read 'Thunder and Lightning'? If you haven't, you damn well better. It's scarily accurate to the characters and written fabulously compared to what else is on the site.

OT: I do think you're wrong though, this thread isn't all "Hater's Gonna Hate". Bronies can be smug, evangelical bastards about the show and more than enough of them have a persecution complex. That isn't to say there isn't a big chunk of the fan base that's fun, loving, and D'aww, but there are fans out there that completely legitimize the complaints in this thread.
