Poll: Why is Invader Zim so highly praised?

I cannot think for the life of me why people still talk about this show, and like it.

Well sorta.

All that show ever was to a 11-12 year old me, was that show that had a lot of screaming in it, and 'strange things'. However, nowadays, I hear how people loved it as kids, and still watch it to this day, even if it was canceled after its seconed season.

Curious, I looked up the animator, a comic artist by the name of Jhonen Vasquez, an American comic writer, who was semi-successful in the late 90's, and early 2000s. But after Invader Zim failed, nothing happened in his career.

I myself watched a few episodes,a nd thought the following:

Jhonen has mental problems.
GIR is the most annoying thing iv'e ever seen.
Cartoons must have been hard to sit through in the 90's
That edgy teens will buy anything and proclaim it good, if Hot Topic tells them it is so.

TO THOSE WONDERING:

The third option is suppose to read:

"I have no idea what this show is, or about. I stumbled in here by mistake.

According to the wiki-article, He had several comics publish in the late 90's and Invader zim was created in 2001.

I watched invader zim after having read his comics unlike most people. The show is really over rated and for the life of me I cannot figure out why nick hired him to make a cartoon. Basically decent show but read his comics they are much much better.

I remember when Invader Zim first started. I remember watching the first pilot episode as a kid. I loved the show instantly, not sure why it was just a good show. It still is, I really enjoy it. It sort of feels like the way Nightmare Before Christmas is -a cult classic that outlives it's prime, I suppose. People have things with Jack on them, whether or not they've seen the show because it's popular. The same goes for things with Gir on it.

... But I digress.

I think it gets the 'praise' it does because at the time it was a whole new kind of cartoon. At least to my remembrance.

I think it stands too much on the shoulders of John K. But I think that about every cartoon since 1992.

Because it was the only cartoon that has ever been completely in sync with my love of dark humor and random humour. I still watch it from time to time. "worse...or better?" is a common in joke with me and my mates.

I have absolutely no idea.

I love it, but I can't really explain why.

However, in my personal experience I have only met two people who loved it as much as I did and everyone else either hated it or had never heard of it.

Its because Jhonen Vasquez is amazing and people should look into his other work instead of just going "HAHAHA THIS SHOW IS WEIRD! I LIKE GIR!"

And about the pony crossover, please go drink some bleach.

Yeah it was really stupid, it's right up there with Ren and Stimpy and Fairly Odd Parents, but then again I seem to hate cartoons for the most part, and my brothers did love all those things, and that Billy and Mandy thing that is also unworldly stupid, not even Evil Dead references can save that thing.
And yes it is possible that I just hate everything, most people seem to believe that anyway.

I watched it all the way through a couple of years ago. It entertained me and made me laugh. That's why I liked it. *lol* I've no idea why anyone else did.

I loved that show, and still love that show, and still watch it whenever it is on. Why? No fuckin idea. Maybe just because it's the right sort of batshit crazy show that always appealed to me. I also love some of the one-liners, "Come Gir, ride the pig!"

It's just one of the things that (for me at least), that gets random humor right and makes obnoxiousness funny. I also find overdramatizing and overstylizing the mundane funny, so i get a lot out of the show (Needed more Professor Membrane, though)

Both things are VERY hard to do without sucking, so i admire Zim for that, although i see how people would be annoyed by that.

(I personally prefer Vasquez' "SQUEE" though, as it is rawer and darker and somewhat "truer" than Zim without being as rambly and pseudo-preachy as Jhonny)

I wasn't a kid when it was airing... I watched it for the first time at age 30(on netflix)... and I found it hilarious. The writers have a talent for dreaming up silly dystopian societies and idiotic yet lovable characters.

Yeah, I'm old enough that my friends and I had already read the comics before the show came out, which was after we were already out of school. I still thought it was fun to watch, even if it wasn't quite the same. He was pretty limited in what he could get away with on TV, but what did manage to make it through was still usually entertaining.

Here's why I like it. Most cartoon creators will make a show more watchable to a wider audience (see adults) by putting in little innuendos here and there (see Animaniacs "Finger Prince" joke) Jhonen did it by putting in some great satire, and beautiful piss taking, while making a genuine dark, surreal, and frankly disturbing world; none of which a little kids are going to get, because they just want to see the silly alien act silly.

Invader Zim is about two social outcasts fighting for recognition with out conforming to the status quo. Even though Zim and Dib are adversaries, they have the same goal. That's one reason why I like the show.

The cruelest irony about the show is that the creator absolutely despises the Goth community, and they're the only ones who pay any of his work attention any more. I used to like the show, but it's gotten to the point where the only people who "like" it are of the age where they were too young to have even watched it and only have seen it from references on the internet and Hot Topic merchandise. I can't stand the people that like it anymore. They're ALWAYS the "LOL I'M SO RANDOM!!1!!" people who think GIR was the main focus of the show or quote shit out of context.
