Poll: Why is Invader Zim so highly praised?

I like it purely because it got Nickelodeon's panties all bunched up for constantly crossing into non-family friendly territory.

Oh and above that's not true, I'm about as ridiculously boring clothed as they come and JV's Style of art has influenced my own quite a bit, I credit him a few times in my research.

Sure goths are drawn toward anything even a bit dark, but they usually grow out of it and forget it years later. It's best to patronizingly pat them on the head and continue ignoring people like this, don't justify any kind of behaviour by getting all huffy about it.

It had a new "flavour" to it, which made it stand out from other shows of its time and even now. It's still better than half the crap that gets released, and it has a genuine quirk to it. Of course, this is coming from someone who loved JTHM and all associated works[footnote]I can't wait for my niece to be old enough so I can read "Everything Can Be Beaten" to her. I figure 3 or 4 should do it. It IS a children's book, after all...[/footnote], so take that as you will. Also, for what it's worth, Ms. Bitters was one of the best parts of the show. :p

Admittedly, the crowd that uses GIR or Jack Skellington among others on clothes and bags and whatnot without knowing anything about them are annoying, but people can like what they like, even if it's for shallow reasons...

I would love to see a GIR/Pinkie Pie crossover.
Already taken care of... kinda.

I like it because... it has some funny bits, I guess. And the fact that it's rather dark for a Nickelodeon cartoon kinda helps...

Like most things is doesn't deserve all the praise it gets but it is one of the best shows I've seen, though the first season is definitely better than the second one. It's a good combination of messed up, funny and cute so if you're into that sorta thing you love it.

As others have said, the dark humor was really rare for cartoons of the day, which was cool to a 10-year old like me. I wish that I could add more, but there is just something...intangible about the show that I simply enjoy. I guess it's kinda like the polar opposite of MLP, which I also like (love). Perhaps a bit of rebellion is also at play here, not wanting to adhere to normal social rules or liking something that most parents would despise.

Yeah it was really stupid it's right up there with Ren and Stimpy and Fairly Odd Parents, but then again I seem to hate cartoons for the most part and my brothers did love all those things and that Billy and Mandy thing that is also unworldly stupid not even Evil Dead references can save that thing.
And yes it is possible that I just hate everything, most people seem to believe that anyway.
Holy shit, man! Grammar! Use some grammar! My lungs are saw from reading that sentence in my head!
I'd also like to state that I enjoyed the crap out of every cartoon you mentioned in your post. Then again, I love most cartoons, period.

On to the OP, Invader Zim was funny, had a randomness and weirdness that hadn't been seen since Ren and Stimpy, had excellent animation quality for it's time period and full of a type of dark humour that hasn't been seen -or allowed, thank you very much Moms of America- since. It was guaranteed to be at the very least a cult hit amongst kids and teens of the time. Basically, if you were a kid when it aired, you probably loved the shit out of it. Otherwise, it was probably just before your time.

It was a curious show that made me laugh due in no small part to the character GIR.
He's a twisted little gremlin of a robot that I can't hate no matter how hard I try.

I didn't really care for it. Rocko's Modern Life was still running at the time (I think, at least re-runs), so I payed a little more attention to that. Maybe I should give Zim another shot

On second thought, maybe I shouldn't.

Because it was good. How's that? Also, I would love to see an animated JTHM. On HBO or Showtime. If I may ask, what is one of your favorite cartoons?

When I was a kid we watched good wholesome cartoons with a good moral message like AHHHHH Real Monsters!

Oh wait...

I always found Zim to be mediocre. Maybe if it had been created for [adult swim] instead?

Its because Jhonen Vasquez is amazing and people should look into his other work instead of just going "HAHAHA THIS SHOW IS WEIRD! I LIKE GIR!"

And about the pony crossover, please go drink some bleach.
To paraphrase "Stop being so close minded! Now, I'm going to close my mind to other things!"

Stay Classy :3

Also I liked Invader Zim, maybe not to the level of other people. But I liked it fair enough

That's basically my childhood right there. I'm curious now, what did you prefer as a kid?

It's a great show to switch your brain off and enjoy mindless fun.

That and GIR.

GIR rocks. Nothing can beat GIR, not even Chuck Norris.
