what do you think of nintendo's latest appliance for the Wii? are you excited for all the opportunities it opens up for gameplay, or are you pissed that nintendo's making an appliance for the wiimote to make it do what it was originally supposed to do?

I think if Nintendo wanted to make a huge impact with the Wii (not sales-wise), they should have taken less of an initial profit on the Wii and included this more advanced tech in the Wiimote from the beginning.

i, personally, am pissed with this particular wii app above all others.
in fact, i'd like to see how they advertise it: make your wiimote motion sensitive?

To: Nintendo
From: Me

Shut up and make some damn games that DON'T have a mini-game as the main gameplay component.
Then I might actually dust off my Wii.

This is my opinion on what Nintendo should do, other than making more stupid peripherals like Wii motion plus.

Ya, I can't believe they would do this. Seems like they're admitting the Wii wasn't ready to come out when it did, and that it's taken them this long to get the tech right.

I was pretty sure that this was what the Wiimote was supposed to do by itself.
What pisses me off even more is that the major titles that Nintendo released themselves could have been released on the GameCube: Zelda (oh wait, port), Mario (attacking could've easily been mapped on a controller) and Smash Brothers.

No More Heroes is one of the few games that used the Wiimote and Nunchuck correctly. which brings me to another point:
Nintendo, stop waiting for third party developers to use what you've made.
This reminds me of the GC-GBA cables, the only game that actually tried to do something big with it was that Final Fantasy game, though I admit, Rayman had some cool mini-games with the GBA link.

i'm pretty sure this is called "planned obsolescence", and i'm pretty sure i learned that phrase from Yahtzee. it's when a company (i.e, nintendo) sends out a product they know is incomplete and then proceed to make millions and billions selling patches and appliances. it's a way to make money, and though nintendo is succeeding, it still pisses people off.
the latest VGcats comic explains nintendo's position pretty well. basically, hardcore nintendo gamers are royally fucked and will remain royally fucked. now old people and idiots have discovered nintendo, and since the normal person is so very likely to be far more wealthy than the hardcore fan (and far less concerned with the quality of a product), nintendo figured out that they would buy anything, thus leading to the wiizapper, the wiibalance-board, and now, the wiimotion-plus.
in short, it's a genius business maneuver, and nintendo is an asshat for making it.

The Wiimotes are expensive enough now. Did you really expect them to add an extra $30 (or however expensive this will be) to the original controller? Because I'd be appalled every time I had to buy a controller. And when was this part of the original controller as implied by the poll? (Hint: It never was.) And for the people annoyed at Nintendo for not making games, did we not get Mario, Metroid, and Smash Bros. (all VERY good games) in the span of a few months. You can't expect one company to keep pumping that stuff out. And if they did everyone would say that they made to many. It's a catch-22.

And I've seen people say they "sold out" but that statement can't really apply to a company as their goal is to, you know, make money.

People love bitching don't they?

Ya I know. I mean, who wants a good, well established first party game anyways? You people are animals!

And about the "when was it part of the wiimote", wasn't the Wii touted as 1:1 movement before/just after launch anyways? Little dirty of them to announce it will be after all this time.

EDIT:
Oh, and I do love bitching. Besides, everyone's entitled to an opinion, but just because you don't agree doesn't mean we're bitchin.

We got 3 extremely high quality games in a short amount of time. Blame the third parties for not putting out enough quality titles.

Find me a statement by them that touts 1:1 movement.

And I'm entitled to call people out and call their criticisms unfounded.

You have to think carefully about a few things before you can accept of dismiss the Wii Motion Plus hardware attachment:

1 - Are more precise and refined controls necessary to Nintendo's catalog of games so far?
2 - Are any games, except for Wii Sports Resort (obviously), in development that require such precise controls?
3 - Would Nintendo really set up a brick wall between a catalog of games that require precise controls that necessitate the Wii Motion Plus, and a catalog of games that can get by with the Wii Remote as it is?

The way I see it, The Wii Motion plus will be useful, but not necessary.

I think that those Japs at Nintendo were pant on head retarded when they made the shitty console, and even more pants on head retarded when they decided to make the wii mote as inaccurate as possible and then decide to make it better, only a short time before they release their next shitty console.

However, it may be a clever marketing scheme that they intended at the beginning, but since I hate Japan I'll go with them being "pant on head retarded".

Um, no. Planned obsolescence is when a company makes a product that is designed to break down more quickly so that the consumers will have to go out and buy a new one.

1. no, i don't expect them to come out with a sixty dollar controller, i expect them to come out with a finished one. what if microsoft released a controller and then, six months later, released an attachable rumbler for it?
2. while i suppose it was never explicitly stated by nintendo, it was pretty damn heavily implied that it would feature 1:1 motion sensitivity.
3. true, nintendo released quite a few first party games in quick succession, but then it stopped all together and decided people want to mime hoola-hooping. and i can't see people complaining about there being too many 1st party games, unless they're all the same series, in which case i'd go back to my old hope of nintendo bringing back old series (or at least remake kid icarus, or the mother series, or something).
4. while nintendo's goal is to make money, i'd have thought they'd at least be able to come out with decent first party titles along with crap like the balance board. then they'd make even more money, and nobody could complain.
but here's some food for thought: how would a Terminator fan react if the next Terminator movie was a romantic comedy, or how would batman fans have reacted if Dark Knight went back to the campy days of yore? just because it makes money doesn't mean it's a good idea.

That was just cruel, SeaCalMaster. Cruel, but funny.

Until you learn where to place that letter 'S' that is missing in that sentence (not to mention the rest of your post). I won't even touch the emotional problems you seem to have with Japan...

well then, in that case i guess this would be planned incompleteness.

So let me get this straight. The only thing the Wii had going for it originally was the motion-sensing remote thing. But now they have to put out the Plus, because everyone's finally realized the regular Wiimote only works a little better than the Sixaxis, which I discovered the first time I tried to play Monkeyball and almost knocked a lamp over trying to get the tiny white box to acknowledge I existed.

So...why did everyone rush out and buy Wiis again? Other than the fact that Nintendo stamped it?

By the way - the original NES lightgun was based on something invented in the mid-70s, and I don't think I ever had a problem with my Nintendo knowing where I was aiming. Granted it wasn't fully motion-sensitive, but it's been almost 40 years, Nintendo. We went from small missiles to landing on the moon in half the time it's taken you to finally figure out how to get a slightly newer N64 to recognize I'm moving the stripped-down lightgun. Perplexing.

I can't say I'm surprised... The games industry will either promise the world and fall due to the unfortunate knee-capping from reality, or meet there design goals in the profitable manner of re-releasing the product with half the features promised but not included with the initial version.

The lightgun had nothing to do with the Wiimote. Also, it didn't know where you where aiming it at. Try aiming it at a lightbulb, it will always detect your shots as a hit.

The Wiimote is slightly more advanced than that. SLIGHTLY.
