Allright we've got Guitar Hero is on number 5. Rock Band continues as well.
I for one have a lot of fun playing these games, but I really don't care about them. And with all the continious releases, it's like they will never stop.

Also the fact that you buy new songs ensures they will continue.

This looks like another Final Fantasy. They keep making games in the series as long as people keep buying them. Personally I don't care a whole lot if Guitar hero ends or continues.

I'm just waiting for the government to outlaw them, calling it detrimental to our youth.

At least real FF games only come out once every 2 or 3 years, as opposed to GH games which come out bi-monthly.

As long as they get music that "everybody" likes, it'll sell like hotcakes. Sadly.

It's gunna end up like Sonic.

Yes it will continue, and I wish both franchises would just... fucking... die... already.

Seriously, they really should have stopped at Rock Band 1 and GHWT and just released DLC for them, that would have made more sense. And for those who don't have access to the DLCs could just buy them in forms of expansion pack discs (not as an actual full-price game).

what other songs could they possibly add though?
Oh, there's literally hundreds of thousands of songs they could choose from. Hell, GH5 included Gorillaz! If they keep lowering the Rock/Metal boundaries, the possible song count will hit the millions as long as they get the proper licensing.

I think it's necessary to quote yahtzee here: "When the fuck are they gonna license Stairway To Heaven?"

Seriously, if Acti make a guitar hero game with heaps of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and similar bands and great metal bands, i'm sold.

It will turn into Sonic. Though I do prefer Harmonix's approach of just releasing DLC. At least that way, we can pick which ones we actually want instead of getting stuck with lots of really shit songs. (Looking at you Guitar Hero World Tour and 5)

I'm guessing they have already started working on Guitar Hero 6
Work? What's there to work on? There is no difference.

Whether you notice it or not, there are actual changes to the games with the numbered releases. They generally aren't great enough changes to merit a whole new game, but hen I remind myself I get upgraded gameplay and 80+ new songs for less than $1 apiece as opposed to spending $2 on each one individually.
I do think the games series will continue, though it would be great to see some changes in the structure of the genre (namely that band games go the way of the dodo, new games have significant upgrades to gameplay, and they start licensing music from the Rolling Stones).

Is this not what all games do? Is this not what all entertainment does? We're on Survivor 12, American Idol 11 or something.... this is the entertainment industry... this is based around a fundamental economic principal called supply and demand.

Once the demand for these games goes down (which I'm thinking it already has considering they're GIVING AWAY Guitar Hero:Van Halen with pre-orders of Guitar Hero 5), then they will stop making them.

It's really about profit margins. The movie industry is remaking every property under the sun because people continue to go and see them. When the Texas Chainsaw remake netted the studio a cool 50 million in profit from the box office that opened the floodgates to a whole slew of horror remakes and reboots.

I don't see a problem with more GH games. As long as they keep the instruments compatible it's alright.
The game is fun (to some) and as long as there are good songs left to include, I'll keep on playing them.
