The title says it all, me I think maybe yes, although I might have to change that based on recent opinions on what Ocarina of time truly is I would say our generations version of Ocarina would be Angry Birds

EDIT, READ THIS:
Okay putting this nice big god damn disclaimer up here cause I'm tired of hearing this: I AM NOT A SKYRIM FAN, I've spent most of the year talking it down, I'm not gonna buy it till the price drops or I can get it used, and I haven't been following it at all. This thread isn't to try and build hype I'm asking an opinion question.

Considering how hyped Skyrim is, i feel it's going to disapoint people because there is simply no way it's going to be as big a god-send that everyone is making it out to be.

I really hope it is for you guys though.

No doupt that it will be game of the year (or decade) like all previous Elder Scrolls but a "legend" could be I don't know.

I'm pretty sure Ocarina of Time wasn't the Ocarina of Time of its time.

edit: TIME!

I really don't think Skyrim is going to change much, so I don't think it has any chance to be anyway near as impactful.

eh could be.

i would say with the amount of mods that is bound to have...it possibly could be.

but the vanilla game (possible DLC)...don't think so.
it will definitely be a strong GOTY contender, hell GOTD (game of the decade) contender even, but i doubt it will be legendary

Nope. It's an Elder Scrolls game. It follows the same basic formula as the others from what we've seen and gets a large part of it's reputation for quality from it's mods. Ocarina of Time was the first 3D Zelda game. Comparing the two, especially the footprint they leave, seems kind of silly. Not sure where anyone would get the idea Skyrim would be the Ocarina of Time of this generation.

I don't know, really. I haven't been caught up in the hype at all. And I was too young to remember any fuss about Ocarina of Time. I'm not a real fan of these sort of games.

Skyrim, I love you, and I'ma let you finish, but Ocarina of Time is the best videogame of all time.

(Though honestly, yes. I think this game could be quite epic.)

What is with these Skyrim hype threads? Are all these people secretly working for Bethesda and this is all part of the marketing for the game? And people saying that it will be a great game? Its not even out yet!

I'm sick of all the hype. I think it will be relatively about as good as Oblivion, no revolutionizing the genre no legendary game of the generation. For that reason I think it will be a disappointment for most players, because it will not live up to the superhype its getting.

I won't get it right away, I'll give it several months and see how people who actually play it feel about it and then make my decision.

To answer the question in the title: NO, and there is no way you can possibly make that claim right now when the game is not even out yet and all you know about the game is what you have been told by the marketers (ie. the people whos job it is to make you like the game no matter what)

I still play Morrowind from time to time. Oblivion had teething troubles, but from the press releases it feels like they heard the complaints are addressed the ones I personally disliked most.

So we will either get

a) Morrowind's engagement level, with graphical improvements and all the increased playability of Oblivian minus the few bad ideas they had plus some interesting new games play abilities about establishing your presence in the game (house, family, stock piles of goodies)

And this will be a true game of the year / game of the decade candidate.

b) they'll remove a the few mistakes from oblivion they identified (good buy conversation pie) but they'll add a whole bunch of anoying poorly thought out systesm, (Hello conversation Pyramid). The added presence establishment will be unfulling. (you can have a family but it doesn't effect game play in any was (Hello fable 3)), building things is a huge grind fest, etc.

In which case it will still be a pretty good game, but bethesda will have not done the IP credit.

I'm guessing it will win game of the year either way from a number of different sites and such, and it is very likely to win RPG of the year from almost everywhere that has that catagory (The fan base is large and even in the worse case it is like to be a very solid RPG)

*EDIT* oh and in the case of A, I think people may still be playing several decades later. But what do I know I still be Hitchhikers Guid to the Galexy from time to time and that is a text based game from back in the really early days of interplay.

Yes, everyone works for bethesda.

Or TES is a very popular series that has lots of fansites and wiki and even people who have explored every inch of it including finding the scripts that were partially written but didn't make it in to final cut and either speculated or even tried to recreate the missing missions. And this sequel is 5 years in the making so some of these people who really like the series are a bit excited about the fact that it somes out in 4 days and since they can't play it, they are talking about it.

I think it is the first one.

But as I bought my copy of Skyrim from steam a few weeks back and am just, I could easily be wrong.

You shouldn't be asking adults. You should be asking children that will play it in twenty years.

lol, calm down, I wasn't serious about that part, but I was serious about the parts that you ignored. I also own and like the other games of the series and I want to like Skyrim but I am seriously put off by this superhype.

Guys, agentorange98 is only asking us to speculate with him. Nothing wrong with that. Surely I don't have to wait for a game to be released to take an interest.

I don't think Skyrim is going to tap the same nerve as OoT. Different times, different style, different audience. I do expect it to be tremendous and in general I much prefer The Elder Scrolls.

Well, unless it's been hyped for years and years, takes the elder scrolls up a visual dimension and happens to be one of the only really good games on a system for years, then I don't know how it could be...

Also I'm not holding my breath for skyrim, it will probably be a good game, but then again looking back at bethesda's history for making realllllly shit story telling as of late, I'm not really excited, just watchful, I enjoyed oblivion to an extent, but the storyline was such a boring slog I never finished it, Fallout 3 was alright but it didn't seem to fit in pretty much any fassion asside from it being all F'd up and irradiated, the story was pretty lame, and samey feeling, nothing really exciting, better voice acting and story telling than oblivion but still not too big of an improvement, of course obsidian got dibs on new vegas and made in my mind the true fallout 3, it had the fallout feel to it, not like fallout 3 which felt like it was making a serious attempt at aping the fallout canon but really falling short.

So unless they get a fresh cast of writers, and maybe put some REAL effort into the story this time,(which I haven't seen anything about all I've seen is them masturbating their engine at us, which shows me that it's fairly polished looking and that's it) my gut reaction is that it's just gonna be another "alright" game, so I'll wait and see, and maybe pick it up in a steam christmas sale if it's there for cheap-ish.

Nothing about it really screams "Legendary" or "Revolutionary", so I'm going with no it won't be this generations OoT.
