I have not yet learned to love the Escapist enough, plus I'm not that wealthy.

I think I will. I mean, it's half price for us, so might as well - plus I can rethink it after a year and leave if I don't like it.

I want to, but I can't afford it.

Yet.

Once I've got a steady job, hell yes. I've adored this site and this community since I joined more than a year ago, and, no matter what else changes in my life, I always come back. So yes, sometime in the future, I will definitely pay for a premium membership.

Not much for paying, even with Benefits.
So no, and there's something about it that doesn't sit right with me.

I won't be joining, I don't have the money.

It's annoying that they are going to start giving ot extra content to those who can afford it, but as long as the content they had till now stays free it doesn't matter too much.

That's not to say I don't understand why they are doing it. It's a good business decision, so why shouldn't they go for it.

No. No, screw that.

I'm enjoying this website less and less these days, no way I'm shelling out cash money for some frankly useless (to me) benefits.

Hamsters?

I don't think I can join the publishers club for this site if it's run by hamsters. I mean the cats that type up all my thread posts would go wild.

Wait... people are actually leaving because of it?
Srsly?

Anyway, due to my lack of money I can't afford the £6.50 [sub](roughly)[/sub] it takes to sign up. It sucks to be poor, but I get paid on Friday, so maybe then.

Nope. It's a good site, but I just don't see it as being worth paying for. This definitely isn't going to make me leave, and the only thing that would make me want to leave is if they decide to charge for everything on the site (doubt that would ever happen, though).

No, I will stay a discriminated against basic (xbox silver if you will) user of the forums, when the good stuff on this site is no longer free then I'll leave.

Let's check the features...

High quality streams: not interested. I'm happy with what's up already.
Video podcasts and full-content RSS feeds: Don't watch or listen to podcasts, and I don't use RSS.
Exclusive member content: Tempting...
A custom title of your choice: I don't use the forums often enough to justify this.
Early access to upcoming site features: I doubt I even use a quarter of the site features available now. Have to say no to this as well.
Ad-free viewing of the website: I use Adblock Plus and NoScript, and I've never once seen an ad with both of those enabled.
Automatic contest entries: Doesn't matter to me, because the vast majority of contests I've seen are only applicable to those in the US.
Exclusive member forum access: Once again, I don't use the forums often enough to justify this.
Audience panel membership: This is probably the only thing (apart from member content) I'm interested in.

Final tally, only two features actually interest me. Spending £13 on two features isn't exactly cost effective, so it will have to be a resounding no from me.

Yet, I am going to subscribe tomorrow.
But something... still feels wrong...
I know what you mean, it's like... the Escapist has suddenly become less free, in a literal and metaphorical sense.

I'm almost expecting them to eventually say, "episodes 1-5 are free for everyone, for the rest of the series you have to pay".

I don't know, $14.95 a year american gives me 12 issues of game informer and use of all their websites features.

Well I won't be paying for it, guess I'll just have to be not exclusive.

I'd use a grand total of none of those features, although I can see the appeal of a podcast/rss feed. Oh the joys of adblock+noscript.

It's sort of like spending $15 on five maps but you're only going to really play two.
lol'd.

Edit: Well that was mildly creepy, the second I posted a message was recieved titled 'The Publishers club'.

Absolutely not.

I find this wrong on so many levels. I mean I know that the site needs revenue to support itself, but this is nearly on the level of purchasable content on Farmville. We get to enjoy this site and the community for free, and then this comes along and offers insignificant bonuses just for being a more enabled and recognized member on the site?

I'm afraid of the direction this site is heading with this, it might drive me away.

Oh well, let's see how it goes. I certainly won't fork over cash for meaningless internet bonuses.

Perhaps, the only thing that really interests me is the custom title.

However, Money isin't really something i can be throwing around at the moment...

So probably no.

Sorry Escapist Staf, i love you guys, but i need to buy games at a retail price too.
