Is anybody actually paying/watching the Women's World Cup? I know everything shuts down for the Men's Cup, and over here[footnote]in the US[/footnote] ESPN promotes the hell out of it because they make more money with better ratings, but is that an actual trend everywhere? Or is it just a meh reaction?

Thoughts? Comments?

Double Edit: First, it doesn't look like the Poll is working right now.
Second, I've got to give congrats the US Team for not giving up and winning a really good match

I have a few friends that are watching the WWC right now. Though, they're really into futbol.

I'm not so interested, partly because it is so hard to watch for me. It's not like the men's cup where I can always know the score because of play-by-play streams online.

It's nowhere near as big as the Men's WC, but yeah, most people in Europe at least loosely follow what's going on.
Obvious exception being people who never cared about football to begin with, but even they will realize when their nation's team wins and loses.

What part of the US are you from? The only time I've ever heard anything about it is when the Women's team won the whole thing a few years back and when the Men's team tied England a year or so ago. Granted I don't really watch much sports in general so yeah...

I just got finished watching the semi-final match between USA and Brazil, and it was pretty exciting. I must be the only American who likes soccer (I know the rest of the world calls it football).

I must admit the only reason I know that it was on was down to BBC Sport, and surprise, England were put out on penalties. Oh and the Germans are out as well which means something.

Haven't actually watched any of it though.

I'm from Michigan, maybe it's just the Bars/Restaurants I frequent but it seems like everytime I turn on ESPN or see it on they've got another bit/ad/promo covering it

Fair enough. I don't really ever have a reason to watch ESPN.
