maybe, but not with all of the major faction bichin about each other why not just stop war and if anybody who does something very bad put him underground for about 15-20 years after that he will finally like everything about this earth and find out why all the violance should stop( cause he was underground for 15-20 years)

Though the problem with that is that it wouldn't then be "world peace", unless the human oppressor left earth and joined with an alien force, which would essentially return us to our previous statement.
Well, what's 'world peace'? If it's a lack of large-scale conflict, then anything strong enough to control and oppress humans (and other animals as well, I suppose) would constitute 'world peace'. However, if, by 'world peace', you mean everyone is BFF, then... good fucking luck.
I admit my stupidity. My brain must not have been fully up and running when I was reading this earlier, I had completely forgotten about the possibility of oppressive regimes.

Nah, it's not stupidity, just good ol' fashioned criticism... necessary for the well-being of any idea.

I read it somewhere.
I'm not a very trusting person...

M.A.D. It's the only thing that kept the Cold War from getting hot.
I thought that had something to do with the Soviet Union being bankrupt.

Anyone up for a trip to Vietnam?
Can we pick up some drugs while we`re there? they`re expensive over here

And I am thankful for it :).

The thing is that most people have a 'sunshine and flowers' view of world peace, where people of every race, from all walks of life, man or woman will join hands in a grassy meadow somewhere and sing happy songs on a lovely sunday afternoon with children playing nearby, allow me to pop the hippy bubble here by saying that is a complete load of bollocks and will never happen.

My view of world peace is more or less the world as it is, the main difference is that no-one is killing each other, we can still hate each other with a passion, we simply can't throttle the bastards (after all, peace isn't loving and tolerating each other as some may believe, it's simply not fighting each other).

Look at England and France, we used to more or less be constantly at war with each other (we even had the 100 year war, now that's dedication) but now this has stopped and we've had peace between the two countries for a long time (even though stereotypically there is still a certain level of antagonism between us).

We don't openly love each other but we're not poised to rip each other's throats out either.

There is a very simple reason why there will never be world peace: people don't actually want it. People actively invent new reasons to kill each other; religion, resources, skin color, etc. Humankind has only gotten this far by killing anything that stood in its way, and it will continue doing so until there's a bigger problem to worry about (like an alien invasion or the apocalypse.)

Mortals are violent in nature, notice I say mortals instead of humans. All animals are violent in some way, some even communicate through acts of violence, or have societies based on violence, like dogs for example.

We're still apes, now we're just hairless and instead of dragging our mates back to the trees by their genitals we beat around the issue for a few months while spending hard earned green paper to buy them gaudy trinkets.

One word: No. The thing is it's in human nature to want to have something our neighbours have.

The problem is that humans seem to have this inner blood lust, so that we have to b fighting something at all times. Traditionally, the best times of peace and overall cooperation among people have happened during war. For instance, in WW2, everyone was either united with the Allies or the Axis powers. Sure, there were states that claimed neutrality, but everyone was more or less aligned with one of these 2 powers. This is a good example becasue it gave everyone a chance to unite and still have something to fight.

Now, if we take the Watchmen route, I believe that total human unity and peace is possible provided that we have something to fight that is not ourselves.

There probably will be a moment in the far future not a single conflict is going on. It won't last longer than a few days, though.

A more interesting question would be, "Is world peace desirable?" Say, if world peace came at the expense of sacrificing millions to the rule of sadistic despots...
