Poll: World War 1 and 2 - who did more for the French?

Last night I was watching an episode of the Simpsons, and during the episode a Frenchman mentions that the Americans saved the French twice from the Germans in the World Wars. This annoyed me slightly, since the main forces in Europe for the Allies were, on both occasions, British. As a proud Englishman I took offence that the USA seems to think it did more for the French in the wars than the British against the Axis forces. Especially since the US troops in those wars were more involved in fighting on a completely different front against the Japanese. So, I ask you, fellow Escapists. Who do you think were more involved in the liberation of France from the Germans? The USA? The UK? Or perhaps a different country altogether. Please post your thoughts here so we can decide now who truly deserves the credit for WW1 and WW2.

I'm American, and I think the UK did more to help the French.
They let in refugees, and then helped out the resistance.
The Americans didn't really do much.
We're lazy.

Probably the neighbouring regions of France. The US only gave troops, even if the troops were vital, they're not the whole war.

That's a little unfair, a lot of US soldiers died. Not saying they should be so bigheaded as they are, but you know, credit where credit is due.

For example britain couldn't have beaten off the Germans without the rush of soldiers from America and other countries on D day... And If America was going at it without the help of britain and the allies, than we wouldn't of won unless we used nukes on germany...

This. Credit where credit's due, Britain didn't do everything on it's own, but at least we turned up before we knew which side was going to win.

Sorry, but I just hope that's sarcasm (not an easy thing to put across in a forum post). There were no nukes dropped on Germany and it was the Russians who first took the eastern part of Europe, then the Allies were able to surround Berlin in the months following D-Day. I'm guessing you were being sarcastic, but I just can't be sure. No offence meant.

Oh sorry let me fix that... Western europe.... And what I meant to say was.... If America was alone, we would of had no chance of winning UNLESS we used the Nukes...

On topic, even though they barely participated in WWI (relative to everyone else), I believe that the Americans were a close second behind the British, in terms of liberating France in WWII

And in both wars the Germans helped the most. Especially World War 2. Had Hitler not decided to pull a Napoleon and stay bogged down in Russia in the winter, he would have totally pwned Europe.
