There's really very little middle ground when it comes to AI. But what's really the worst side of the spectrum to encounter? Omniscient or just plain stupid.

EDIT: Fixed the question.

It depends whether or not its friendly AI. I prefer the enemy AI to be this side of stpid but i like my team to be able to not just get in my way

I cannot stand a game where my "teammates" are running in front of my bullets. Especially if its someone I have to escort and I end up having to restart because they wandered too far away from the short bus and into my line of fire.

Sorry hit wrong button- Anyway. I think stupid is worse, because stupid wastes your game time. If you have to go back constantly to revive a stupid AI or it gets you killed, it's wasting your time

Omnipresent AI is so annoying. You can think of brilliant tactics to take down your enemies, but an omnipresent AI will know exactly what you're doing. It takes all the fun out of trying to outsmart the enemy, because no matter what you do they are prepared.

Wasn't the AI in Starcraft omnipotent? They always knew exactly where my base was.

I hate the teamates who get killed before anything happens that you really need help with, they make absolutely no difference, the game makers might as well improve the story line, I'm looking at you Resistance 1

Depends on the genre. FPS, I'd rather have omniscient AI, as long as they can't shoot through cover. Makes the game more challenging. RTS on the other hand, I'd rather they not know exactly how to beat me. They should be stupider and more formulaic.

But, as always, moderation is the key. Extremely omniscient is just as annoying as extremely stupid, regardless of whether they're on your team or not.

To be honest I've had experience where actually people did moves that stupid AI's have done, i.e I've had someone walk slowly in front of me at paintballing while I was firing madly.

Omniscient is a problem, but it shouldn't be an impossible obstacle, unless it's a stealth game of course, meaning I can probably think or even shoot my way out of a situation.

Stupid however is just amusing in a bad way. One particular memory that sticks in my head is Metrocops running down a thin and coverless corridor towards me while I smiled at the way their little ragdolls fall.

So I think stupid is probably worse. In a way.

I prefer to have omniscient enemies to add to the challenge. Not only that, but I'd rather the game be harder because the enemies are smarter than because my teammates are all braindead

Both friendly and enemy AI in Mercenaries 2. Stupid allies are worse, because you are lured into a sense of security that they can help you out. When they don't, you end up being just more cannon fodder.

Stupid allies, I found myself screaming this in Fallout:

For crying out loud! Get out of the fucking line of fire, Dogmeat!

Allies for sure. Wandering aimlessly around, getting stuck on things, not moving when and where you want them to and bumbling into your line of fire (then bitching about it when you pop them) is infuriating.

Allies that run infront of you while shooting at enemies and ones that needlessly wast ammunition are the ones that particularly annoy me. I can't even begin to count the number of times I got the Traitor title on Battlefront 2 because some dumb trooper ran infront of me while I was sniping droids.

EDIT: Oh and there are also the allies who lack survival skills e.g. 'why you should not to walk through a mine field', 'why 50ft is not a safe hieght to jump from', and my personal favourite 'why walking through lava is not a good idea'

Stupidity can be combated, I always presume everyone is stupid until proved otherwise(except members of the escapist forums)
Its when you fail through all powerful enemies that that it seems unfair.

If you are asking if they are omniscient, you could be also. The maps were set, so if you played one map you knew where all the bases were going to be.
