It depends. On expert, the Witch kills you in one hit and the tank is nigh unstoppable.
On Advanced and Normal, however, I hate the Boomer. I can almost always kill a smoker that grabbed me, and usually kill a hunter before he rapes me. But the boomer just appears out of nowhere and blows up, filling my screen with bile.

Tank is the only that really provides a challenge.
Hunter: Melee spam
Smoker: Melee spam, breaking his tongue is far too easy
Boomer: Shove and shoot, if he gets you get in a corner and melee spam
Witch: Get behind her with the shotgun, and 1 shot her
The Tank, though lighting him up certainly does the job, but depending on where he spawns, completely avoiding him for 40 some seconds (this is all assuming you are a man and playing on Expert) can be hard-ish.

I never alert the witch so that's out.
The Boomer is probably the most inconvenient because 1) He blinds you and 2)the freaking swarming horde.
But the Tank has caused the most game overs and personal deaths so thats where my vote goes.

Gotta pick the tank, the witch really just requires everyone to sneak up and then count to three and fire a few times. Boomers are just a shove then shoot, smokers can be a pain but their tongue leads back to them, so it's not hard to pick where to shoot. As for hunters, well, even the AI will tell you when one is comming close.
I would say the AI Director if it was an option.
Once we got a tank, boomer, hunter, and smoker dumped on us all at once. 2 got barfed on, 1 got strangled then slashed, then the tank just kinda went around pummeling the ones yet to die.

I personally hate the smoker in versus because there are a handful of areas in No Mercy which a smoker can nail you through several objects which results in you either 1) Getting wrapped with the only way of being freed is to have some one shoot a very tiny bit of tongue that is exposed or 2) Getting dragged through various objects and being unreachable or having to backtrack through a chunk of the place.
Though there are some places where hunters can get like 20 dmg pounces but many people don't know how to do them, so they're not as broken as the smoker hiding spots.
In campaign I hate the tank because it has a habit of smashing you directly into a wall no matter what angle he hits you from and then he just ends your life.

I vote tank. Hiding behind a cement pillar one moment only to find it greeting your small intestine the next is a trifle disconcerting.
I think the regular zombies are annoying because when they surround you they make it impossible to move.
The Hunter and Smoker are aggrevating cause once they get you, you lose the ability to do anything.
The witch is a cheap *****, but most of that hate goes to my AI teammates who leave the group just to piss it off along with their intrest in introducing me to their new "friend".
The tank is the only enemy in the game that gives me a "rush" feeling that every other part of the game doesn't, but once it hits you it doesn't matter. Your helpless and I hate that.
The boomer is glitched, even if I am in a corner in a closed room with my teammates outside and in the door it will still get me. Not to mention I can never find the damn thing afterwords.
But the main thing I dread about this game is its absolute lack of replayibility, that or the tank.

I said that tank, because it doesn't die in 5 shots (and doesn't sit there crying while you walk around it and shoot it in the back of the head).
