Painting. I love putting them together and I usually customise the models themselves, plus put them in awesome poses (you have no idea how tough it was to try and model a Piranha skimmer (Tau) in the style that it's banking left in a low turn. I gave up eventually...). I even have a Fire Warrior lying on the ground like a sniper with a Pulse Rifle, looking like he's talking into a radio as a scout of some sort. However, I've never been any good at painting. I just don't bother now. When I get a massive army I'll paint them all in one go, huge bold strokes as camoflague colours to make it nice and easy ;)

Two words for you. Pin Vice! Or if you want to go really hardcore get a dremel tool with the smallest drill bit attachment.

Trust me, drill a few small holes, put a piece of brass rod in there and glue. Hold together a hundred times better and easier. I play Warmachine and Hordes and its the only way to get Warjacks and Warbeasts to hold together.

I havn't touched my warhamemr stuff since... 4 years ago I think. Don't have room anymore so it's boxed away. I always hated gluing the metal figures, especially since the superglue tubes would break easily, one of mine had half a dozen holes in it, luckily the glue is self-sealing.

Painting was my second least-favourite part, as I got lazy. Assembling the plastic miniatures was what I liked best.

gluing sux, But I'm glad they have invented the glue accelerant(is that a word?), just go to your toy and hobby store and ask for something like it. 99% chance they will know what you are talking about. the only problem is that it sometimes glues "too fast".

Making them is fun. Converting them is fucking awesome...my favorite part. Painting, while I'm good at it, is a pain in the ass because it's time consuming, an eye-strain, I have a slight tremor and more importantly I'm a perfectionist.

I hate glueing metal models, I still hate my nid Hyve Tyrant, even though his kickass 12 BS4 S5 reroll to hit, reroll to wound shots.

I HATE Metal on Metal gluing. I have had models that I have washed, pinned and spent several hours praying to God, Allah, Thor AND Zeus to keep the joint in place, and it's still fallen apart.

Dammit GW! You promised us all plastic models years ago!

It's finding time to pain them. I'm moving soon(again), so they're all packed up, and now I have almost NOTHING to do at all, except post on escapist and surf the webs.

As for the metal gluing, I pin just about everything, and if that fails, JBweld. Not the best of ideas, but it works.

One day I'll have to put up some of my minis on a page.

I went with plastic gluing. Right now I have twenty two armless guardsmen because I can't get their flashlights to go on right. I haven't had to do any metal gluing yet but because at the moment all I have is a Kasrkin squad and a Ratling squad I don't think there will be much issue with those considering the most I have to glue on those is just a single part.
You probably wont have to do any metal gluing. Almost everything for guard is plastic now. Probaly get plastic stormtroopers soon as well. Doesnt do me any good though, i already have 57 >_< so much money

For me, the worst part is converting. I just cant work very well with green stuff. Still, i'm fairly proud of the Khan i made for my white scars and the Emporers Champion i made for my Templars.
Thats one of the reasons why i love the new cadian command squads. ou get so many different assembly options its fantastic.

I dislike some of the painting stages like highlighting and drybrushing in the first instance you will have your model all washed inked then will you will put too much paint on the tip and it spreads all over the model and in the second case it takes a wee bit too long I feel espessially sorry for Dark Angel and Ork players.

FYI, a good chunk of metal-on-metal or metal-on-plastic glue failure is user error.

-Did you wash the mini? There are lubricants on the pewter which aid in taking pieces out of the mould, and this lube is still on the mini if you use it straight out of the blister/box.

-Are you using the right kind of superglue? There is better stuff out there than the GW crap. GW glue is made for plastic and metal, which means it's not very good at either, just adequate. A proper metal-to-metal superglue works wonders.

-What condition are the joints in? Too little metal-to-metal contact and it won't work. But if you have two perfectly smooth flat surfaces, it ALSO won't work well. Ideally, you want good contact, then rough it up a bit with fine-grit sandpaper to give the glue pores to fill into.

-Did you pin the joint? As others have mentioned, pinning is a key to larger minis. Some, like Carnifex or Hive Tyrants, actually NEED to be pinned, simply because no glue will hold their weight.

-Touch the glue... The thing super glue bonds best with is human skin. If you are holding together two pieces which just won't bond, tap-touch the joint a couple times. If it can peel just the dead layer of skin off your fingertips, then you press the pieces together and rub them a bit (like an arm, put it in the socket then move it around a bit), your skin will accelerate the bonding and make it hold more firmly.

Just some handy tips from someone who's assembled well over $10K worth of 40K.
pretty much what I was going to say, but much better.
