we all know that Reach was Bungie's last Halo game, But I think we all know that microsoft haven't had their last word. I heard (I think in an IGN update some time ago) that microsoft planned to release a halo game every year similar to the call of duty franchise. so my question is, If microsoft was planning some shitty halos, Would you boycott it to hopefully avoid further debauchery of a classic franchise.

Never been a big fan of the games since 3 personally, much prefer the books and the universe in general. That new studio, 343 industries, is currently hiring for a big Halo Project so it's safe to say another game is on the way. I will be watching it as it is not made by Bungie, who to be honest have made some pretty average games IMHO, especially Reach, so a new developer may be what the series needs.

It depends on if it's good or not. If it sucks, I won't buy it. Common sense.

Never cared for Halo at, well, actually I was never much a of a mircosoft fanboy but thats neither here nor there, so I've verbally stated my hate for the series. THere's the symbolism, there's the fact that its stagnated, there's alot of things in it, but over all I just never got into it. Maybe thats just me though I still find Halo: Combat Evolved mildly entertaining when i have the chance to dust of an old xbox and play it.

So I wouldnt boycott it. Let Microsoft kill the series (assuming the game would even be shitty), perhaps then we can finally move on from Halo.

But as a side note, how do you know it would be garbage just cause it switched companies? Bungie didnt do much with the series overall to set it above anything, maybe a new company would add some blood to it and make it decent.

Haven't bought a Halo game yet, dunno why I would start now.
Same.

Although your answer is of course people would still buy it - look at CoD.

I've only played it once or twice. It's not really my thing, but I get how lots of other people can legitimately like it as much as they'd like, for example, B-grade scifi movies, so it's not really worth my energy to hate, and certainly not enough to boycott. I still probably couldn't be arsed to do it even if it degraded to something like Sonic in quality.

Ummm...question
So the point of your proposed boycott is that you want to boycott the game so the series doesn't become bad.
But if the new developers actually make a good/decent game then you wouldn't boycott it because that is what you want.
But in the case they make a crappy game and you don't buy it that isn't boycotting, that is simply not buying a game because it is crap.
So....how are you planning to boycott?

I'm not sure why but I have a feeling Halo is gonna die down dramatically after a couple more releases.
Probably because any new titles will be the same crap over and over again rather than using any of the potential the Halo universe itself has.

CoD could go on forever, but I just don't think Halo could get any more popular.

I'm not saying I hate Halo, but when you think about it it is already one of the most hated game franchises in the world.

What 'symbolism' would that be?

To the topic: I would look at the game, see if it appealed to my tastes, and decide based on that. If MS is planning to whore out a game with the Halo name on it every year, then no, I probably wont buy it. If the games 343 makes are of similar quality to what Bungie have done with the franchise, then I dare-say I'll look into them.

The stuff movie bob talked about. I know, he was looking too much into and I'm just choosing to not like halo and grasping at straws to find a reason, but thats not my opinion. A friend watched it while I was watching it and said he's done playing halo (I had been done since halo 2 came out).

Though I never did like the idea of every soldier having the same armour and being unidentical. or the fact you never saw anything of the main character's face.

I own a copy of the only halo game worth buying. How about I join your little "boycott" by refusing to buy the non-good halo games like I normally would?

I didn't see my personal option: 4. I'm a non-Xbox owning gamer, so I really have no say. Although I wouldn't boycott it, necessarily. I liked the Halo games when I'd play at my friends' house, but the single-player wasn't anything to write home about. As long as they don't try to get too ambitious with changes, it should still be a solid play experience, albeit stagnant.

That episode was, as you sort of concede, a very misguided attempt to discredit what little story Halo actually has by highlighting some small scraps from games and surrounding media to essentially say Halo is promoting the fear of diversity.

Halo is not racist, and if you'd like to look at Halo and claim that a single-race army fighting a multi-raced army is only promoting a homogeneous society, then I think that says more about you than the game or the people who made it. Halo is not the convoluted drivel that Bob made it out to be. Halo is a fairly fun sci-fi shooter with about enough story to contextualise just why you're shooting this particular group of baddies. It's fun to play, and has a well supported online feature, but it's symbolism and story are average at best. There's no draconian or dark symbolism in Halo. That was, as you agree, Bob apparently trying to kill my enthusiasm for his new series by having an extended, nit-picky, anti-fanboy rant.

Which would have been a shame, because I've enjoyed all the subsequent episodes.

Bob starts ragging on Halo by sarcastically saying how "the guy who likes to stand out" is a stereotype. Later in the video he talks about how the Spartans all look the same and that this is bad. Contradiction. The Spartans in Reach all look different. They looked similar in the early games, yes, because Bungie, I guess, hadn't gotten around to expanding the whole Spartan variations and stuff.

He says how the Spartan's being all similar makes sense contextually. Y'know what makes sense from a gameplay standpoint? Having different types of enemies to shoot at.

Nah. I would never buy one because I only play the single player campaigns, and those are short and average. But if a friend had it and wanted to play multiplayer, you're damn right I would play. Halo has great multiplayer, in my opinion.

Halo 3 was the end of that series for me. I rented ODST once, but I stopped playing after a couple hours, declared it all non-cannon, and played a better game.

Wow, even when the poll is so blatantly mocking the people who do still leap at the chance to mock Halo, they do it anyway. Without any sense of self irony.
But still, I won't make fun. I try my best to be a nice person.

Anyway, it really depends on what kind of games are coming out. Yes its true that I love the Bungie made Halo games but that was mostly for their charm and little self referential gags that were thrown in, in general I'd mostly just be concerned that any new developer wouldn't understand what made Halo great in the first place.
But then again, this is 343 industries, the company dedicated to making Halo games and exploring the lore and universe around it, so I figure they would probably have to have some idea what they were doing. If nothing else, with the exception of Wars I've enjoyed just about every Halo game that's come out in some way. And at least Wars was trying something different.

Point is, I'd remain cautiously optimistic about the whole thing. True, I think the main trilogy is done and dusted, and any attempt to make a Halo 4 or something will be met with the utmost scorn from me, but attempts to explore the universe and try new types of gameplay? I could do that.
So no, I don't think like so many others do that Halo should just 'die', because its still so young compared to other franchises out there. But I certainly still think that the main trilogy is finished.

That said, would I boycott anything turning out bad? Well, if they don't take the advantage of trying new things to do a game about say, the Elites and the Covenant perspective of everything and instead do another....bloody.....Spartan.....game then I might get very, very annoyed. Because what's the point of having a new company if we're just going to be doing the same stuff we were doing before?

So if I get the feeling the series is going downhill then I might stop purchasing them. That said, I really don't see what standing up and declaring a boycott of the game actually solves. I mean that whole Left for Dead 2 boycott didn't suddenly speed up the release of Half Life Episode 3, nor did it prevent the game from selling in huge numbers.

Basically it just made the ring leaders and all involved look like idiots, whiny spoiled brats who were spitting the dummy about Valve not bending to their whims. Whether or not that is what they intended doesn't change that.

I'd only boycott something if there was a real political or moral outrage behind it, and as much as I love Halo, it going down in quality does not make it either one of those.

I wouldn't go for a boycot. I haven't bought any Halo games, not because I am too cool for it, I just haven't. I like playing it at my friend's house and just have fun doing som split-screen multiplayer, but I'm not a big fan. I am thinking of getting Reach, but well, I am not rushing to get it. Just like any of the old Halo games I might get it.

Settle down, I disliked halo long before Bob's clip came out. My friend who watched it with me was the one who was swayed.

However he does have a point. I dontknow, I dont feel I should continue cause I havent played any halo game with any real drive since Halo: CE, but even having a single, all the same army doesnt mean there doesnt have to be distinguishing features. Look at the Clone army in Star Wars Battlefront 2 (and one ofr that matter I suppose). Clones (are) look identical and are mostly the same on a genetic level, yet they are still trained for different purposes and have a physically different armour pattern. They fight in armour that is a union of many different creatures and species.

However, SW:BF2 take the opposite approach, saying this group of all the same people is bad. Not saying it is, not saying it isnt, just saying.

I dont know, its probably personal opinion more then anything else, but I like my heroes to be different from the rest of their allies on some level besides the "I'm just more awesome and cant die" thing that master Chief has going on there.

besides, if you want to go on the levels of "fun" halo is in its scifi stories, there are many other better games/movies/books/media that are more fun, original, and interesting in teh scifi genre then halo.
