I have been playing team fortress 2, Battlefield, ETC and have been killed by snipers over and over again and thought would these games be better without them. i personally don't know because i had fun being a sniper and got annoyed by other snipers killing me. so what does everyone else think?

No, they would not be better. People will still camp with an assault rifle. And you'll still get killed a lot.

Snipers are like real life. In simple when your out in battle field its nothing like a usual shoot up and few people if not alot of people get picked off by sniping.

If you get annoyed by snipers means that they are getting a fun time out of you. And it's not everyday sniping goes smoothly.

Once I was sniping in this Halo 3 map Valhalla. My mates had just respawned behind me and I thought to myself "I got 30 seconds of sniping before I have to move on." since it should be quite obvious they will attack any encountered enemy at my back before they move on.

Not according to the dude who back stabbed me 5 seconds after I scoped.

Seems that ALL my mates had gone doing fuck'all while this dude was on the lower floor just waiting for everyone to move. I guess he found me and took his chance.

No, I enjoy getting easy kills with most snipe points. If you can get there before the snipers you can prevent them from getting a foothold and they can't really defend themselves if you have any half decent gun. And they're usually not too hard to uproot anyway in most games.

its depends on the size of the map of a game, i would say the majority of cod maps are really unesscery for a sniper but more open maps like ones in halo and Bad company deffintly need snipers. as long as they remember they are in a team and actually need to do more than sit and get the odd kill ¬¬

You just need sniping, sniping in BC2 is the difference between most Arms/Disarms on Rush, and therefore play a big part in the game, not to sound boastful, but I've probably been the difference between winning and loosing games when I've been sniping for that very reason, everyone else just runs around like headless chickens trying to get kills nowhere near the OBJECTIVES and if there's a plant (because one enemy has just effortlessly sprinted through behind a bit of cover) they'll only move towards it when the beeping gets to it's highest and there's 2 seconds left on the thing. You know it's true.

I like the way TF2 handled the power of sniping. Make a basic charge up that basically forces snipers to stay long range. The only problem I have with sniping in most games is it can be used just as effectively up close.

depends on the balance of the team, nothing worse than having 10 of 12 players being snipers as it ends with rush games ending with the defends winning without even needing to try. I admit I do love some sniping but I find it doesnt win games too often

Instant this. Although, some snipers should be taken out of games. For instance, the AWP in Counter-Strike: Source has perfect accuracy as long as you're zoomed in, and standing still.

Anything a sniper can do can be done better at the front with an assault rifle. Sniping is for carebears, really. Shooting at people that usually is unable to shoot back, either because of range, stealth or because the guy you're shooting at is busy with doing something more important than you are.

This is more true in games where you can frag someone with just one shot to the torso, and not only to the head.

One class that is extremely rare is the 'marksman' class, and I'd like to see more of it. But of course, it's much harder then sniping since you will be closer to the enemy and can be shot back at.

And what's with the argument that 'sniping is hard'? You should try the front, it's MUCH harder.

Sniping always has a role to fill. MW2 wouldn't miss sniping that much though, as it barely focusses on actual teamplay.

I beg to differ, nothing beats sniping right on the frontline with a Heavy in front of you as your meatshield, headshotting everyone who dares to attack. And yes, with the rifle, not the bow. Living on the edge baby!

Especially awful in Valparaiso. But yeah, snipers are insanely useful in BC2, mostly because of the spot function. There were countless of times when I spotted someone who tried to sneak towards the bomb site or spotted entire assault groups.

Really? Because my consistent gripe about sniper rifles in games is that they are crap accurate at close range if you try to shoot without the scope. Anything closer than 25 meters you shouldn't miss if you don't use a scope, in fact just about anyone with training would be able to hip-shoot a rifle and hit something at 25 meters. Then these games give me this crap where someone comes into the room you're in and you're lucky if the bullets hit the same wall you're looking at.

Anyways, as for the topic, I absolutely think that sniper rifles belong in games and bring a new depth to the usual automatic weapon slugfest.

I play CoD, so sniping is a challenge, it's probably easier to snipe using an assault rifle. So i voted 'no'.

If I camp, I do so with a LMG (for the record: seldom) and many people with me, so no, it wouldn't be better.

Also, sniping can be a lot of fun, and even dodging snipers yourself can be exhilarating.

No, as long there are enough counter measures against sniping (destroying the building with the sniper(s) in it in BF-BC2 for example) it would only cut out diversity.

Would wars be better without snipers?
Sniping is a crucial part of the "war-feeling" in games, without snipers, it's not a war game.

I don't have any problems with snipers.
The only thing games could be without is NoobTubes. I hate those.
[SUB]Going against NoobTubers with a single fire M14 Assault Rifle is hell..[/SUB]

Sniping should be allowed. But if the Sniper is getting tons of points, they're obviously playing with people not to their skill level. If they're not being nice about it, they're kinda being a jerk, really.
