So guys, how many of you would refuse to buy a console that didn't play used games?
and GameStop saying that no one will buy it [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/122127-GameStop-Says-Gamers-Wont-Buy-Consoles-Without-Used-Games] i decided to ask you how many of you actually would buy it. Please consider what to pick carefully and truthfully, or else ill do nothing.

Edit: capcha: Heat up.
Oh, this is going to be a hot topic i hope.

Master Race checking in. Well, I've had consoles in the past, and I've never really traded in used games to any great extent. I've almost always bought new and kept ahold of everything I've bought. I don't think the lack of this option would put me off. OTOH, it'd be a dick move.

I would much rather prefer we keep the same model we have right now but I would be open to it if the games are cheaper, somewhere in line with PC or cheaper. The reason I said cheaper than PC games is because of the inherited limitations on consoles like the fact you can't really mod on consoles.

That depends whether there was a choice available that allowed me to buy preowned and that I actually wanted.

The wii u could end up being this...if they continue to provide hardcore games.

If not, if the wii u remains a poor choice for anything other than party games, if sony and microsoft's brains drop out their asses and they kill the preowned market, then well, where else am I going to go? I don't have the technical know how, the money, or the tolerance to deal with the problems of PC gaming, even if the consoles end up sharing some of those problems. I don't want to quit gaming altogether, the handheld market doesn't provide anywhere near enough substantial experiences, and I can only hang onto the last gen for so long.

This is the thing I'm afraid that they realise. If they've figured this one out, that there are people who will want to continue their hobby but won't have anywhere to jump ship to in the event of them deciding to stop preowned games. I doubt it's enough for them not to regret doing it via that gen being a relative flop, but it may be enough for them to bother trying.

I don't trade in my old games and I very rarely buy preowned titles.

So buying a console that blocks preowned titles doesn't really bother me.

But I'm an adult with an income. I survived off of trade ins and preowned games when I was a kid, so something like this would have severely limited what I could play.

It's a douche move, to be sure.

No. Because the game is mine. I bought and now own it. If I want to resell my property I will do so.

I haven't 'rented' the game or 'made use of a service' or whatever other words these slackjaws want to use to justify trying to tell me what to do with my shit. I have bought a possession. I shall do with it as I see fit.

If it does indeed come to pass that the new generation don't support used games then I'll take the final step along the road to PC gaming (I'm already like 99 of 100 steps along that road). PC gaming has its own issues but there are definite advantages to the console bull I have to deal with now.

Considering a move like that would require an intense amount of business decisions, it would mean more than just "no pre-owned". A gigantic change in the way these companies do business would occur, just all-out crazy greed.

It would mean things like:
-Consoles being nothing but advertisements and stores; like le shitty 360 Dashboard, but astoundingly worse
-Games officially licensed to you; likely with very limited "uses"
-Draconian policies like we've never seen before
-Companies would become the Monolithic Archangels of Authoritarian Douchebaggery

I buy all my games new. If this happened, for whatever reason.. I would become an all-out pirate. I would own all the offending company's consoles, and I would be active in uploading cracks & unlocked games on all the major torrent sites. If, if ever a thing like that went down, mind you, otherwise I don't condone such a thing. ;)

Anyway I'm PC Master Race. I only care about consoles for glorious exclusives.. these days that typically means a Rockstar or Uncharted game or something, which is once every few years really..

I don't buy or sell used games so it wouldn't really affect me directly. Still though, I used to trade in games all the time as a kid (for up to something like a whopping $5 a game!) and I support the idea of buying/selling used games. So I'd like to think I wouldn't buy the console on principle but who knows...

Funny, the people in thread are mostly of the opinion that they buy new anyway so they wont be affected. Yet the poll hasnt had even 1 yes answer.

Well apparently a survey by GameStop is showing that 60% of their customers wouldn't buy a console without a second hand gaming option... but then you haveto consider this survey was done by a company who thrives on second hand hustling.

I really doubt that this spineless community will put their foot down in a major way, hell for the past 5 years people have been carefully trained to think second hand sales are killing the industry as we know it, and that you don't own your products when it comes to games, and all sorts of crazy nonsense...
And people eat that shit up, right now the corporate fans are a far greater PR force then the companies themselves.

Used games ban doesn't bother me since I buy new anyway, love the scent of freshly peeled cases.
But I'd only buy them if they have worthwhile exclusives.

I'd bloody well think twice about supporting a company that had that level of undisguised contempt for their customers.

Either way used games is costing the industry money. How much is a much more interchangeable question. In the end the removal of used is not just about getting rid of resale, but a case of cutting the distributor out entirely through digital distribution. Where that cut expense ends up is a different question.
What not many people seen to recognise is that when people trade in games, it's often to raise cash to buy new games. Even if somebody only ever buys preowned games, they're still part of a system that stimulates new release sales. Removing resale means people will be able to afford fewer games. How is that good for the consumers or publishers?

Like Valve and all their bloody contempt for their customers. Not allowing me to resell my games.
I don't use Steam nor do I have any real interest in it but I gather that you can at least transfer the game license to a friend. Also, Steam has regular sales which make games dip down to preowned price or even lower. If Microsoft started getting into the digital distribution business, which of these features would they implement? Based on their extortionate XBLA Games On Demand model, I'm guessing the answer is neither.

nope, I buy the console games new anyway but say I got the next gen console and was not able to play my existing ges on it? That be a deal breaker. Fortunately Nintendo don't do that. fortunately also I game on a computer and steam works everywhere.
