Poll: Would you buy a Valve-made console?

Valve releasing a console would be preferable to PC gamers dragging PC gaming's corpse around, but I still find them reprehensible as a company.
They're a step above Apple in the grand scheme of things.
If they did, it would probably be the first console to support a mouse/Keyboard, and mods. So there's that.

also if PC gaming was dead then why do people still buy and play PC games?

Because they're what's known as a "Loud minority".
It's when a very small group is so vocal that they make people think they're a large group.
For example: The birther movement is a crazy fringe movement. But if you watched the news they seem like a big group.
PC game sales make up 7% of the market, and Blizzard is the only remaining PC exclusive AAA developer. When Activision inevitably makes them release Diablo for the consoles PC gaming will be completely dead.

oh sure there are very few PC exclusives thease days but as long as they work properly I dont mind playing console ports, hell just because Im a PC gamer does not mean I exclusivley play Blizzard or Valve titles (in fact I dont play ANY blizard games)

plus theres...you know steam and indie titles,

like I said I can still buy and play games on the PC to me that sounds like PC gaming

"completley dead" is when its about the same level as playing games in an arcade...which I dont see happening anytime soon

It would depend entirely on the game lineup. A newcomer to the race, especially one with the (relatively) limited capital that Valve has isn't likely to draw a lot of them, much less games that I simply have to play.

Granted I'm a huge fan of Valve and everything they do, but I wouldn't buy a console just because they made it. First off, they have ZERO experience designing consoles. Designing a console tons of money that Valve would really be stupid in trying to build a console that they really don't need to make.

That being said, if they did, and it was superior to the other consoles, then yeah I'd buy it I guess

We are moving, quite quickly in fact, into an age where consoles are becoming obsolete. Valve is already ahead, with a platform that can be expanded to any computing hardware, given enough time.

Which by that definition makes my pc a console, as it is very much so dedicated to playing video games...

Even if they did make a console... they're not going to abandon the pc platform... so no...

If you find the right places, (Japan mostly) people make it seem like the arcade market is thriving.
The thing is, objectively looking from the outside, it really isn't. Those people are just deluding themselves, and the arcade people who realized the arcades died in the late 90's and moved on to consoles were much happier.

I definitely disagree about PC gaming dying out, some of my favorite games are years from even being possible to run on a console, mostly because they pretty much require a mouse. I suppose maybe a Wii-mote type controller could work, but try playing RTS games like Total War and imagine them on a console, or Starcraft, which did have an N64 console version that was... different I think is the best way to describe it.

I doubt Id be much happyer with a console, I cant afford one and well the portability of my laptop is a big plus (yes thats right...a laptop)

and....FPS....with a gamepad?..HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA ahem sorry about that, yeah thats just not for me

no Im afraid I wont be converted anytime soon, I mean I could get a console but...who knows?

plus I cant really play planescape Torment on a console can I?

Woo! A fellow laptop gamer! Sure it can be challenging, but it is nice to be able to carry around my entire library of PC games in the form of a back pack or satchel that can double as a book bag.

For years I've been of the stance that if Valve, Epic, and a few other major developers decided to move away from Windows and push for a different OS I'd gladly go with them.

As far as Valve making a console, that's not really something I see as up their alley. If Crytek or Epic decided to make a conosole I'd be all over it because of how they're known for really pushing performance. Crytek is always right on the bleeding edge, and Epic has a knack for faking incredible feats to get astonishing results on middle of the line systems. Valve has a knack for pushing genres slightly and polishing things to an insane degree. If they did decide to make a console I'm sure it would be awesome, but it doesn't even come close to what it'd take for me to buy it on name alone.

Maybe the hardware would be great, but I don't see Valve being able to get 3rd Party support and we all know that their games would be few and far in between.

There are certain aspects of arcade gaming that can't be replicated by home consoles. Having a custom controller for every game is entirely impractical for a console, and the community aspect simply can't be replicated. People who still go to arcades aren't people who are deluding themselves, they're people who know what they like and aren't going to lie and say the alternative is just as good.

PC gamers are pretty much in the same category. There are many aspects of PC gaming that aren't available on consoles and many people aren't going to pretend that consoles can do the same thing.

Depends...I was skeptical of a Microsoft console then the 360 blew my ass outta the water. If the company epically booms (like Bethesda or Activision[in the respect that they were once little people]) and shows they have the stones and the money to make a console, I would probably buy it out of curiosity.

I can't imagine a Valve console doing anything Steam on PC can't already do so if one came out, no I would not buy it.

So if I hook my PC up to a TV it's a console? Cause I do that.

I would not buy a console by Valve. I got a PC, and well, I can upgrade my PC, purchasing a console by Valve would support the style of not being able tio improve the graphics because consoles are keeping them back. You can only get so much from a PS3 or a 360, but a PC will be capable of far more. If Valve jumps on the bandwagon it will jsut help keeping the technology back. A big fat no here. I wont buy it and I don't want to see it released.
