There was this scenario that came up when I was chatting with some friends. Say you were in a car crash. You would be bed ridden for 5 years, not being able to move, horribly hurt, badly disfigured but after the 5 years, you would be perfectly functional, and look normal. But the only thing you could do during the 5 years except being fed and go to the washroom, is leaglize your relatives to allow DNR (Do Not Ressussatate (Yes I spelt that wrong)) and effectivley end your life.

Basically put, would you allow your relatives to pull your plug?

I probably wouldn't, because 5 years from now, I could probably still piece together a normal life.

I'm that much of an optimist.

So long as there's that glimmer of hope, I wouldn't give up the fight either. Now way I'd let them pull the plug on me.

Looking forward to the end of those five years, I wouldn't want anything done to end my life. Also, not that it really alters my decision, but is this like a one-day miracle recovery after five years, or a gradual recovery?

Even if it is nothing more than a drain on resources I will order them to keep me alive. One way or another I WILL become the ruler of mankind, even if it has to be from a hospital bed!

Gradual. It's not like your face and bones take 1 day to mend.

After reading about the guy who was in a "Coma" for 23 years, only to actually have been fully aware the whole time, five years would be nothing. I wouldn't ask them to end my life, unless I was already over 80 years old. If it were to happen right now though, I'd just tough it out,

No I wouldn't.
I'd happily live for 5 years like that just so I could spend more time with friends and family.

How about watch TV?, or talk to people?

If i could talk to people no, no i wouldn't. I am also pretty sure that you would be able to talk (Because you never said anything about that) Even if i couldn't i wouldn't allow them to pull the plug as long as i would have some company now and then.

If I'm completely brain dead and I'm never coming back, then no, but if there's hope, keep me on life support

So all I could do is pee and eat? I can't like watch TV or something? I suppose not, though. But being a freshman/sophmore in High School at the age of 19 would be a little awkward.

5 years of sleep to get to the rest of my life normal again?

Easy, defiantly if I knew it was 5 years. Well not easy to do, but an easy decision.

Uh...no. If I can still function in some manner, then I want to be kept alive. If I'm just going to be a useless hunk of meat, however, I want them to yank the plug like they were trying to take the carpet out from under someone.

Yes. I find the idea of living like that for that long utterly depressing.

I plan on signing a Do Not Resuscitate form anyway. It just means that I got into an accident before I was able to do so.

well i'm a freshman, so missing five years of school would super fuck up my life, and I don't know how to untangle that web. But i'd probably still keep living

I wouldn't trust my family with that choice. Various friends would be. so Family: no, Friends: yes.
