Now if the US was the out right aggressor with no pretext I would definitely have an issue but thankfully that really hasn't happened at all in US history.

Not enough information. Depending on the structure of the question at hand, this could be a "Is there any reason at all you would kill for your country, given normal or incredibly extreme circumstances, then pick yes" or more like a "Is there any reason at all that you wouldn't, then pick no."

Without question, or hesitation? Of course not. I'm a free-thinking individual, and the Government deserves to be questioned. Any patriotic individual should take pride in and exercise his/her right to question the Government. If they're on the up and up, then they should have no difficulty proving this beyond a doubt that they are just in asking this, rather than saying "Trust me" and winking.

If the President asked me to strangle a basket of babies, not happening. If I was asked to kill some guy because someone else said he's not a very nice guy? No. If he needs killing, the guy asking me to do it could save a deal of time and energy doing it himself. If I was asked to kill a man who just killed my family members, I'd start at the extremities and work my way in.

Really just need more info. Killing others, for the most part, I believe is morally reprehensible and just straight evil in the vast majority of circumstances, though perhaps not all. Violence begets violence, etc. Awful, foolish, and not like to ever go away, of course.

You are joking, right? Need drives inventions, but there have been plenty of inventions, good ones, outside war. We are having inventions daily, without needing war.

That is the reply, no person should ever give. You write "without thought" if you do not question, if you do not think, then you do not know why you are about to end another persons life. I cannot think of a more horribly reply than yours.
Dying for your ideals, fighting for what you believe in. That can be commendable. But doing so thoughtlessly, I cannot think of a worse reply.

*remains stone faced* You are somewhat right but a lot of major ones usually come out of war or were based off of a war time inventions. for example without WWII the Germans wouldn't have started developing the jet engine and without the ICBM race we would be behind in space tech.

Yeh, there have been countless vital inventions that have been driven by non-military needs, but you cannot deny that war has prompted the discovery and invention of many things that have helped countless people.

War, especially the bloodiest, always produce something. Penicillin, the first anti-biotic, while initially discovered in the late 20s (I think, not sure), was only developed because of the Second World War.

Even further back, ligatures replaced burning as a way to stop bleeding. That was discovered by a battlefield surgeon.

There are many more, but I don't have the time if Im honest.

I'm not condoning war, not at all, but you can hardly say that those wars didn't create something brilliant.

I'd *maybe* kill in self defence. And that's a big maybe; I don't place a big enough value on my life to decide it is more important than another's and end theirs instead. For my country? My country can fuck off, as would any other country asking me the same. Such Patriotism isn't a force of good; killing in the name of ideology should be for your own ideology, not someone else's.
