Do you want a character driven QTE with great visuals, or do you want the Classic JRPG? Neither I intend to be insults.
Get Heavy Rain. It looks like it's going to be something new in the video game world and that's what we've all been clamoring for, right? Something unique? Original? Not that FFXIII would be a bad option. Final Fantasy's have always been near the top of the quality JRPG's out there.

Of course I'm kidding, but if I had to choose between those two I'd say Heavy Rain. Final Fantasy is supposed to be story driven, but it's going to be the same crap as it always is (Teenagers fight God-like being and win!) wheras Heavy Rain may be lacking in actual, you know, gameplay the story (And multiple story threads) should make up for it's lack of interactivity. I really don't think Final Fantasy's combat will compensate for what will likely be another cliched story.

if you've played any FF u have played them all but Heavy rain also has a demo on the PSN so check that first
Hmm....this is really tough. My gut says FF13 will be the better game, but Heavy Rain is oozing with originality.
Add Bioshock 2 to the list and buy that.
That's what I've been hearing. People have also said that it's gonna be Indigo Prophecy all over again. So it's looking liked mixed opinions. Still looks like a good game.Onyx Oblivion said:
I'd say FFXIII mostly because I've been an FF fanboy for some years (hides in shame). But Heavy Rain looks great as well. They're just so different, it's difficult to compare. I would really say buy both. I know I will when they come along. Oh dear, the ever-growing list of games I still have to complete...
I just finished playing the demo for Heavy Rain, and I'm kind of on the fence about it. Graphics are astoundingly good, even though the uncanny valley effect is still tangible, voice-acting is equally good, the atmosphere is nice and gritty and even though QTEs appear to be almost 100% of the gameplay they're well-implemented; I want to see the story and how it ends, but I'm not sure if the game has any replay value at all, because once you've seen the ending of a thriller the element of surprise is irrevocably lost... that's why I'm not sure if this game's more than a good rental.
As for FF13, I'm looking forward to it as well, but to give you any actual advice on which game to get we'll all have to wait until it's finally out, don't we? ... which kind of renders the OP moot.
