Poll: Would you love a robot?

If anybody is seriously questioning this you should watch the remake series of battlestar gallactica. The cylons make other cylons who are (for intents and purposes) organic and the humans can't tell them apart from other humans. Some humans in the series even fall in love with them and impregnate them. Because they are organic and can think and feel they are basically human but most of the crew don't feel that way about them and in fact hate them. Could you love a being that you knew was born from a robotic enemy but was organic? It's a very interesting series that raises a lot of important questions. Certainly got me thinking....

If it's sentient, and acts enough like a human, then yeah, I would. I mean, if we can create a robot that accurately simulates human sentience and stuff, then aren't we (the "natural" humans) just robots made out of a different material?

IMO, anything that reaches sentience is no longer a robot.

Something that has sentience is really closer to us, than it is to a computer.

If there were robots capable of human emotions, I think that the human species would die out. Robots would be almost superior than us, and if humans DID date robots, how would we reproduce?

Chobits is an anime where people have personal humanoid computers which are, for some reason, anatomically correct. They can simulate thoughts, feelings, and have a semblance of independence and sentience but they are not (with the exception of Chi for plot related reasons). People even marry them in the series.

As for dating, if they can pass the Turing Test (a test in which a person converses with a computer and a person without knowing which is which. If the examiner can not tell the difference between the two, the computer is said to pass the Turing Test) and looks organic, I may date one, but my Darwinistic tendencies would require me to eventually breed, something a robot is certain to find impossible.

OT: I would if they ever became fully sentient and actually have personalities of their own, complete with flaws and faults. I doubt that will happen in the near future, though, so no.

People already love there machines. It's done with cars, radios, computers, and anything from simple to complex machines. its why there is so many custom shops that make money on this idea every day. The bigger question is are people ready for there machines to love back.

There was, in Futurama. It was part of sex ed in schools, because dating robots caused the destruction of Earth. Ironically, later on they legalize Robot-Human Marriage with no ill-results. Obviously Futurama thought that making a statement on Gay Marriage was more important than entertaining and keeping up canon.

As long as it doesn't look exactly like humans... So far, the "human" looking robots I've seen look creepy... and I believe they always will... The creators really need to make them not look like real people... Anime-ish would be nice...

PS: Isn't it possible to maybe... give a robot/android human components that allow it to get pregnant...?

Let me think about that. I supose if they can somehow make a fake womb, you could put your sperm in an egg, and put it in the robots fake womb to keep it alive. She would probably need constant care to make sure she has the stuff to keep the baby alive.
